Default Problem with "greasy" embossing

Have any of you ever had this problem? I was embossing clear EP over Versamark on an image stamped with a background stamp & although most of the card was fine, the EP wouldn't "gel" like it's supposed to on one part of the image. I kept heating it, and it seems like the EP melted away or something & the image in that area just looked kind of greasy and a bit smeared, as if the image had melted.

Then yesterday a friend of mine stamped a greeting with black craft ink & clear EP and a similar thing happened to her - it took quite a while for the EP to gel up, and even though it did, the image looked like the ink had leaked (or leached?) out from the edges of the image, and there were greasy-looking spots on the back!

I've embossed a lot using both Versamark & craft ink, and have never had this come up before. I'd be interested to know if this has happened to anybody else & if so, whether you have any idea why.

Thanks!

Yes, yes, yes. I have had this happen a few times but not with clear EP. I was using white EP with versamark and it did the same thing an ruined my background. I would love to hear what causes this to happen.

Sounds like it was overheated.

Have you had this happen when you overheated it? I've accidentally overheated before & even scorched the paper, but it never got greasy-looking.

Hmm, Burned Batik / overheating sounds like a likely suspect! But why would the ink "leak" out from the image?
