Default 7th time's a charm -- 7 cards before I got it right

I had to make a retirement card for a colleague of DH's and I really wanted to get it just right because I know the guy's daughter is making a scrapbook to hold all the memorabilia from the party. I made seven cards before I got one I was really happy with.

Anyone else do things this way? Please tell me I'm not alone!!!

Move over, PrairieStamper, I'm standing next to you so you won't feel alone. Sometimes I can get a card right the first time but I mess up a lot - have a drawer full of cards that need to be redone. (sigh) Just last week I couldn't get the sympathy card I was making right to save my life - ruined 3 of them and 2 wedding cards to boot. I finally ended up taking some pretty Anna Griffin paper and covering the messed up background. Then I cut the embossed parts from another card where I'd messed up the inside and the funny thing is I ended up liking the rebuild better than my original design. So take heart, sometimes a mess-up can end up okay. Just don't throw your less than perfect cards away because you may be able to use them for 'parts'.

No my Sista, you are most definitely NOT alone! I was going to a large group meeting last saturday, and was taking a card for submission (and a group contest) and I was remaking a card I had made previously. It was simple but very eye catchy, but I could not get the stupid shrinky dink charm right! I was so flusterd about having to do that like 7 times, that I had to restamp the card itself 3 times! And, of course, I was pressed for time right, otherwise it all would have been cake!!!

Default getting a card right

I totally know what you mean. It took me about a month of thinking, browsing galleries, and trying different designs until I decided on the layout for my daughter's graduation announcements (the first really "public" cards I've done). What helped me was making up a bunch of pieces that could be used in a card and then playing around with them without gluing anything down. I'd only do that for a big batch of cards, though--don't think I'd ever get a single card sent if I had to work that way for every one! Thank goodness for the galleries here and the opportunity to creatively CASE!!

Exactly! Often times what I deem as a goof ends up being a great way to "fix" something into a whole lot better design!

I think you have lots of company! I made 12 different versions of my wedding invitation before I had exactly what I wanted. My DH thought I was crazy and thought they were all just fine!

I'm so glad to hear I am in good company! I was starting to feel like quite the loser yesterday!

I made about three versions of a swap, then settled on one design, made all 10+1 CF's and decided I didn't like it at all. Checked with my DB & he laughed.. so they went straight into the garbage can and I had to start all over!!

So let's see your finished card Prariestamper! I'm sure DH's colleague will love it. I think we are our own worst critics.
