I turned 56 last month. I love all the "age is just a number" comments. However, if I can't blame my forgetfulness on age, what will I blame it on?! I have an example that happened not ten minutes ago. As I was making a card, I cut the front panel. That's going to be a layer, with DSP on top. Not wanting to waste cardstock, and wanting to keep the card light for mailing, I used a die and cut out the center of the base. I carefully chose a rectangle die large enough to use up most of the base, leaving just enough room for my border. Well, I picked up my cut out piece, that was basically a frame. I looked at it, and thought, "I should cut these off so I have strips instead of tossing it. I'll use them for that technique I saw the other day when I have enough strips collected." I snipped and put my skinny strips in a baggie. I turned around, grabbed the DSP to put on my base and realized I HAD JUST CUT IT INTO STRIPS! So, do I blame that on old age or ADD? lol
PS: Oh, I forgot to mention that when I cut the DSP, which is stripes, I cut it in the wrong direction. I wanted stripes going up and down, and cut it so stripes were going across. Had to re-cut another piece. And I wonder why it takes me so long to finish a simple card. :rolleyes:

Pam, I just blame the forgetfulness on having too many projects/responsibilities going at once. Thinking about dinner preparations, cleaning, yard work, 2 dogs to take care of, husband, the kids, ….
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! lol

I�m 65. I�ve been stamping for 12 years before that I was a scrapbooker. So I have been a paper crafter since 2001. Took a break to make beaded jewelry for s few years, now I do both. I have been retired for 2 1/2 years and love every minute of it!!
My DH is retired too. We are so busy we don�t know how we had time to work!!!
I enjoy the days I spend in my craft Room! I have way too much stuff, but still buy more.
I am a little more selective since my budget is more limited. I love to create and I love all the creativity here! Age is just a number!!

What a great thread and count me in at 63! I started stamping about 15 years ago, and dove in when I retired three years ago. Sue, I've got that stamp set-need to use it. I've become less disciplined in craft supplies since I retired. Blame it on thrift stores and a little on TM. I'm purging along the way and sharing with my oldest son. He's taking an interest. I think we need a separate thread on how to interest younger groups to keep this marvelous craft going!

Your comment reminded me of an image I have pinned on Pinterest of two old ladies sitting on a park bench. One says to another “ I don’t want to be remembered as a Sweet Old Lady.” I want them to say “ oh crap, what is she up to now.”

Happy birthday! 50 is a fabulous age to be - so is 62! I'll NEVER lie about my age - I earned every year and I'm claiming them ALL!

I’m almost 55 - turned 54 last week. I hurt my back very badly just over 10 years ago - and so “retired” (on disability) at 43, from my type A personality workaholic job, to take care of my back, and my very sick husband, who is somewhat older than me. So in some ways I feel young (I kind of forget my age) and in some ways I feel very old. I have always made cards here and there, but only became a serious stamping, die cutting, dsp-ing crazy embellishing cardmaker about 2 years ago. Because of my back, and my sick husband, I don’t vacation and rarely go out anywhere - so making cards is a wonderful escape trip for me - I forget everything other than the card I’m making. I love it even if I do pay for it in pain afterwards. I also love coming to SCS - reading about everyone’s problems - “Oh what’s the best glue??”, seeing what everyone’s making and doing. I am in the middle of doing my first online card class (Werner’s simply watercolor) - and realized maybe I could do some of these card challenges, so once I finish the watercolor class I’m hoping to do some of those. Usually it takes me a month to do a card, so I’m excited at the prospect of making a card a day, which never seemed possible to me before.

I just bought a stamp designed by our own artist in residence, Dina K. I put the sentiment on my letter board as a constant reminder of my blessings. "The sun is up and you are alive to see it. Start there." But now that I think about it, exactly who will I send a card to with this sentiment? I'll need to find some crotchety ole geezer who needs reminding to be thankful he/she is still alive.
I'm 64, have been retired 2 years, have been stamping for 23 years and I love it more than ever.
I, too, miss Bugga and wish she could chime in here. <3

I feel like a kid in the backyard watching the neighbours have a party! Not quite 55, I have a couple years to go and then I can hop over the fence to join the party ...or I will sedately, as befits my �maturity�, open the gate and walk decorously through.
I bet there are a lot in the early 50�s club too, do we start another thread??
I like to think of myself as a "trainee"! I hit 55 the end of next year. Started stamping in my later 20's, back when almost everything was country, and lured my now-78 year old mother into the delightful abyss with me.
I am 81. I started out scrapbooking that lead to huge ancestry projects...then to card making which I love. I really enjoy trying new ideas and products and rarely miss a day of not working on a card. My daughters and daughter in laws call me regularly for cards they need. I am already planning ahead to Christmas cards. I love watching Jennifer McGuire and Kelly Latevola and Tim Holtz among others for new ideas. I love working with the new oxide inks and teaching my granddaughters how to use everything. I have a huge room to work in but as others say it�s hard not to accumulate too many things. I don�t have good stores at a close distance so do most of my purchasing online. I knit, crochet and quilt but card making is the most enjoyable thing I do.
I am 64 and working at HL. Yes I have far to many supplies. But I at least limit it to stuff I will use. Once at least anyway. I would not have a problem if the companies would stop making so many wonderful new things. So lets blame my addiction on them. :-)
I'll be 59 next week. I don't like the idea of those numbers either, but with it comes a definite knowledge of what we like & don't like. We are retired also & have been for awhile now, enjoying country life! Moving from the city to the mountains. It took awhile to get used to the quiet. LOL And night times total darkness here! So, my husband & I do our own type of crafts, although I share my stamps with my husband every so often for his crafts, & he shares his supplies & catalogues with me. I can find some supplies cheaper that way & get more for the $$$!
Hitting 75 this year...retired in 2012 after two work careers. 35 yrs. with one company and 8 years with another and other various jobs early on in my work life . I loved working and the jobs I had, it was hard to retire. I have crafted in everything out there for years..started in my late 20's..still going strong. My love today is making cards, mixed media art journaling, and watercolor painting and still hope to get back to the continuing work on family/travel scrapbooks. I have 20+ completed and am a few years behind. Thinking that will be a great winter project.

Raise my hand for over the speed limit (plus 10). Retired about 10 years ago from the medical field, DH about 12 years ago from the nuclear industry. I am a card maker and find some of the older products appeal to me more than the newest. I find many of these on ebay at affordable prices, such as retired SU items. Cant seem to manage my love of card stock so have lots of that. Cardmaking is a wonderful craft, introduced to me by a dear neighbor about the time i retired.

Maybe the talented Dina K will read this thread and come up with a new set including sentiments from all our combined contributions.
BTW, Dina K, if you read this, in spite of my spending moratorium and extreme excess of stamp sets (some which have never seen ink!) I couldn't resist the the Blue-footed Boobie. Love the set! Love your work!
Diane in Sparks... I may be your East Coast counterpart. My 78th birthday approaches next month. I've been stamping about 32 years. But I do knitting and crocheting rather than needlepoint and cross stitch. My husband is a model railroader (HO Gauge) and his layout is just a tiny bit bigger than yours. While I read the weekly posts on Wednesdays, I have never written one before. My husband became ill a year ago and that's impacted my ability to make cards. I miss it.
I turned 61 last week and loving it. Also this year I went into remission after 29 years of rheumatoid arthritis. So, card making, etc look out. I have a table at a local Christmas craft sale in November and have been working on bags, boxes and cards all year with the odd birthday and baby card as needed.
My DH also retired in May and it is wonderful to have my husband back, KWIM. No more stress and worrying about his workers.

I'm 67, retired for 3 yrs. I've been crafting my whole adult life. 1970-early 90's was only fabric arts like sewing, cross-stitch, embroidery, etc. I look back now and the stuff I made was so pretty but time-consuming. Early 90's discovered stamping/cardmaking and that's what I've done ever since. My life is so different now: no longer have to make 100's of cards for co-workers, family, and friends because they are all gone. I felt lost for a while but a new crafter arose from the ashes. I don't have to worry about pleasing anyone and that has unleashed a creativity that makes me happy. Love learning mixed media techniques. I've been purging a roomful of old supplies and have little desire to buy more. Less is better. Fewer decisions to make. Concentrate on creativity.
I’m yet to reach the speed limit (birthday ends in a zero this year but it’s 50, not 60) but I just had to say I’m loving this thread! It’s so lovely to see so many people who have obviously been around SCS for a good while but don’t post much. Creativity knows no age limit, long may that continue!
I'm nearing the speed limit in this area (75) and have been retired for 16 years, happily filling in much of the new free time with stamping. I used to sew all my business clothes and really wondered what I would do with my days when I retired, as I would only need causal stuff, you can only travel so much, wasn't into running or biking and was somewhat worried as the time approached. One of the teachers where I was principal invited me to the group of stampers that met every now and then in her classroom and I was hooked. I have SU stamps that have the date 1997 on them. I can't imagine life without stamping even though I have been at it over 20 years. I'm glad to see there are others that feel as I do. My daughter (47) has always enjoyed stamping with me and now has a stamp room of her own! Hopefully there are lots more her age and younger stamping away. Our stamp club has some in that age group, but none younger. Keep on stamping!!!

I did just buy a sewing machine, saw bowl koozies for the first time (where have I been?) and thought they would be easy. Haven't threaded it yet! I am not depressed, just can't get going. I will soon I'm sure. It just takes time! I rescued a small dog and she made a lot of difference in my life! Something to wake up for! Hope this message is not too much of a downer but it's only been 6 months and I am doing better all the time! Now if I would stop watching utube videos of cards, I wouldn't be buying so much, gotta start using it all!

If you are keeping up with all those birthdays throughout the year, I think you are doing well. People dealing with less than you, don't always do so much! Take it easy on yourself and do what makes you happy. This is a feel good hobby for both the sender and the receiver.

This made me laugh, then cry as it sounds just like me! Are we twins separated at birth? That would make me 56 again. WooHoo!!!
Me too! Just turned 75 on July 3. I started card making in 2005 at a church event for the ladies. My first SU purchase was in 2006. Since then I've made MANY SU purchases and branched out to other companies.
While still working full time, I did major "stock ups" of paper and all supplies knowing I was going to retire sometime. I did retire in October, 2010. I love being home and just doing pretty much what I want, when I want. Now when it's very cold or snowy I only leave the house when I want to!!!!!
