2 x 2 tiles
 

I just purchased from Lowe's the 2 x 2 tiles. Once you seperate them some of the adhesive is still on the side of the tiles. Can anyone tell me if there is any thing to remove that. I know other people have used these but never mentioned what they did.

I just slice them off with my exacto knife and then smooth them with a nail file. By the time I finish the tiles with the acrylic, you don't see them or notice them.

what do you use the 2x2 tiles for? I've made coasters with the larger tiles but, was unsure of the use for the smaller ones.

I haven't made any of the tiles yet, but bought a sheet of 2 x 2's. I've heard that this size is good for making magnets. Will give it a try...just need to get some sharpies before I do!!

You don't need Sharpies ~ but these tiles are a great excuse if you are a Sharpie adict like myself ~ you can use several things to color on them you just have to seal them. In the techniques section there is a long thread about this.

Thanks for the tip...I've just heard that using sharpies is the easiest!! I have sharpies on the way...and am not sure what kind of sealer I need to use if I use another technique???

Acrylic sealer. I use Patricia Nimocks.

WalMart or Michaels. It's in a blue and white can with black writing. With it you can color with pencils and chalks and even SU markers and it will stay.

:arrow: Saw your post re: the 2x2 tiles. I'm hoping you can share your info with me re: the coasters with the larger tiles. I'm a newbie to this "stampin fun" & I don't think this particular project would be to hard to do. Can you at least direct me to either how to do this or where I can get the info for this particular project (coasters using larger tiles). I really appreciate your time in responding back with the info! Thanks a bunch! :D

I buy unglazed marble (bathroom) tiles at Lowe's. They come in a box- 9 for $5.99 approximately. Anyhow, you stamp the design with stazon ink (black and brown look the best), you can further color images with the ever famous SHARPIE or leave it. Put felt pads on the bottom to keep from scratching surfaces. you can stack them and wrap them with a ribbon. They make great gifts and look great sitting on a coffee table.

The 2 x 2 are great. I make magnets out of them. I give them out as prizes sometimes at my stamp camps. I also have included them in as a project at the camps. The good sets to use are fishy friends, little hellos and holiday sampler I use the sharpies to color them in. They really come out very cute.

You can also stamp on tiles with Craft pads. The trick is, after you stamp them you have to bake them in the oven for about 15 minutes at a low temp, say about 225 degrees. This makes the inks dry. Then, use a spray polyurethane to seal the image. If you want a thicker finish, use a brush on sealant AFTER you use the spray. (If you use a brush sealant straight on to the tile, the image will smear, even after they've been baked.)

Kind of a long way around to seal an image, but it's a great way to stamp on the tiles in different colors.

You can also smear the craft ink all over the white tiles to give them a little more color before you stamp them.

You can color on tiles (yes, even the coated/glossy ones!) with SU watercolor pencils! The color looks subtle - but once you've sprayed on the sealer they brighten up so much! I did a set of hawaiin themed one for friends, and just wanted to add a little blue eye shadow coloring and pinken the hawaiin girls lips on the image I'd stamped -- it was so cool and bright after I sprayed on the sealer, I was amazed! You can also use chalks (either direct onto the tile, or stamp an image with versamark, and then pounce on the chalk carefully). Stacey
