I was thinking the same kind of thing about my DH. I was thinking that they would have to kick him out to make him leave...lol

Wow Christie 17 years! My hubby is going on 15 now. We met 1 year after he got in, that's how I can remember how long he's been in and it also helps me remember how long we've been married...LOL

I'm switching gears....Did you get to get any SAB sets?
I have been looking real hard at the paper. I have not bought paper except CS. But I keep seeing all of the beautiful cards and scrap pages with the accent papers and it makes me want them.

That is sooooo GREAT!!!! I love being a military wife, couldn't think of being anything else...I used to watch all the black & white documentary films with my dad when was little. It was the only time I could have him without all my other brothers and sisters (nine in all) and wasn't on the road (he was truckdriver)...wait am I rambling? How did I get on this subject -- ha ha

He joined right out of HS. After basic and AIT, I think he had been to one drill weekend and then off to Desert Storm. We weren't dating then. I knew who he was but he was 4 years older than me. I was still in HS. I remember being in chemistry and the secretary coming and getting one of my friends to come to the phone becuase he was calling her from Iraq! His poor parents had a horrible phone bill!

I'm sorry, it took me a minute to know what you were talking about here...lol Yes the Alpha Beta stuff are the names of the packs of math curriculumn packs from the Math-U-See site. Alpha being the beginner stuff and so on in consecutive order with the Greek Alphabet. Each pack teaches a different math concept. Sorry, I should have explained better.

Yep. I didn't get the simply scrappin kit though. I am really liking all of the patterned papers too. I actually used some Basic Grey Patterned paper on a card that is posted on my blog. That might be the first time I have done that.

I have seen a lot of the Basic Grey paper and think it is beautiful but since I'm an SU! demo I try real hard not to use other material than SU! so I can demo and/or display the stuff I make. Maybe one day I will break out of this but now soon..lol

Wow! I'm finding that there are more and more Homeschoolers coming out of the woodworks. When I first thought of it I didn't even know it was legal, but then I thought, I'm going to try to do it anyway. Then the next thing I know, I'm finding out that there is actually an organization and legal help and everything!!

I don't use any one curriculumn. I just move around to what we are interested in.
Our home is a math home, in that, when I say go grab a book to start with; everyone grabs a math book. We all love math. So, I would say that our Major is math with almost equal minors in literature and drama...lol

Well, there is another thing we have in common.... I am an SU! demo too. I joined in 2001. When Randall was in Iraq I really ran it like a business and had alot of workshops. Now I have started a photography business that is going great so I just do a few classes here and there to stay active.

Outside the house activities seem to be a bit more limited here. However, I have found a great group in Heidelberg. We are getting ready to read Cyrano De Burserac (eek, I'm sure I misspelled the last name) and do analisis on the book vs the movies with the same character.

Wow That is great. I use Abeka becuase I am not sure enough of myself that I will cover everything that needs to be covered. I guess it is just so I feel "safe" with their school.

My best friend moved to Louisville. Her children and my children were good friends too. And she is the only close friend that also homeschools. Well, anyway, her son and my son are doing a project online together. It is really neat. http://www.stonewall.fayette.k12.ky....t/civilwar.htm
They are studying the Civil War and pretending that they are soldiers on opposite sides but also friends. Then they will write a letter to each other, talking about their experiences.

they (homeschool group) are also going camping in Italy in June---they go every year---however since we will be in the states we won't be able to go this year but next year...maybe.

I actually joined SU! twice. lol I joined once in 2003 and again in 2004. I was not getting any help from my upline in the first one, a friend of mine was giving me all of the help and all so I thought that since she was doing all of the work that my upline shouldn't benefit from that monitarily. So, I got out of SU! and waited 6 months and then got back in..

THIS sounds like a fantastic idea. I think my family would really love something like this.

I think I am going to have to skidattle. I have housework to do before DH gets home tomorrow and I signed up for an online class on Photoshop that starts today at 11. Not to mention the school work that needs to be done. It was great to chat with you, hope to do it again soon!

I know what you mean about feeling like you don't know what to cover. Our very first 3 months of school (several years ago) was the worst time ever. We had 18 subjects because I didn't know anyone who could help me with what I was "suppose" to teach and I couldn't afford any curriculums at all. By the end of the 3 months none of us wanted to do anything at all. We all were literally crying at the thought of school.

Now I have learned differently. Did you know that there are quite a lot of people who have graduated high school and still don't know how to read?
Also, if you really think about just how much there is to learn, no one can cover it all in a lifetime.

So, I just prayed and asked God to help me because I didn't know what to do. Now, I watch how my children are and see what they are interested in. I give them the basics and encourage them in the things they are interested in.
Ultimately they are learning to serve God in whatever capacity He has chosen so it stands to reason that I should hone in on those gifts and skills and help them along when and where I can.

I am sorry this was so long.

sorry about the "anti-patriotic" feel. I'm VERY patriotic. I am just not in a hurry to return to war protesters and all of that. It really burns me up to know that my husband is going to Iraq to fight for people to have the right to picket and then to find that those same people are picketing at dead soldiers funerals. If they hate war so much then they should go home and stay there--don't they consider what they are doing war?

AMEN to that! My husband did two tours in Iraq and I feel the same way when I see those protesters.

Oh and BTW my name is Andrea and I chat in here when my kids let me!! hehe
