How would you scrapbook newspaper articles?

My oldest son graduated high school a couple weeks ago and someone just informed me that in their town's paper, they had a few photos from the graduation and my son was one of those pics

I'm getting a copy of it tomorrow. The article and photos took up three pages of this newspaper (well, it's not really like a weekly newspaper, it's more of an 8x10 newspaper "book" that comes out weekly) Anyhow, would you just include the whole "book" in an 8x10 page protector or just take out those three pages and put them in the page protectors? Or, would you do something totally different?


Any suggestions would be great.

Is it traditional kind of newspaper paper? (if that makes sense) If it is I would copy the articles onto acid free paper or cardstock, scrap them and keep the original in tact behind your pages.

I agree I would photocopy them. I took some Matte medium to some copies and it gave them substance like a photo. But definitely copy them.

Ok, might be a change of plans.

I got the paper last night and what I thought was a "book" is actually a newspaper. :rolleyes: I knew it was made out of newspaper material but I was told it was in a book/magazine form.


I think what I'll do is just cut out the pages that I need and paste them down onto a 12x12 scrapbook page. Do you think that would work?

Here's what I would do:
Photo copy sections about the son and use those on the page, newspaper yellows so quickly.
Keep the whole book-thing intact and seal it in a magazine envelope (like the kind comic books come in but a pinch bigger) and save it with other memory stuff.

It would work fine but you really should copy it, as Lutheran said newspaper really yellows quickly.

News print is not archival and will fade and yellow if untreated. So I would either pohotocopy it or if wish to use the actial article/paper use archival spray on it.

I'd laminate it. That would protect your scrapbook from any acid in the newspaper.

I agree -- the original newsprint will yellow very quickly. I've used the Krylon de-acid spray and it seemed to work well.

If you laminate it, it will still yellow. You have to use that spray. We have obits that were laminated with my parents and grandparents. They are all yellowed. I have heard that spray works. I usually just photocopy them.

My LSS is ordering me keepsake envelopes so I can put my special papers and newspaper articles in. They come in a variety of sizes.
