LSC86 - Life is a Gift
I usually post on Thursday nights because I leave for work so early in the morning. Since it's Thursday, it's still October 19. This date is a significant one for me. It represents the gift of life. My first son was a micro preemie and spent 15 weeks in NICU. He finally came home on Oct. 19, 1995. We celebrate every year. We are so blessed to have him in our lives. On Oct. 19, 2000, my second son, also a micro preemie, died during delivery. That magnifies the miracle my first son is. And I'm reminded every year on this date. I made my annual trip to the cemetery, today. On my way home I remembered that it was Thursday and I didn't have any idea what the challenge would be. So, I began to run through my day for anything that might spark an idea. And this is what I came up with. I hope you like it.

Life is a Gift: Make a card using one or more presents on your card. It may be in the form of a stamped image, die cuts, or stickers. Don't have any presents? See sample #2! There are no additional restrictions for this challenge. Please put LSC86 in the keyword box when uploading. I have been missing some cards lately because incorrect keywords.

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us stamping!

Need help linking a card? Follow these instructions!

1. Open 2 windows. One window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Got to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Your done!

Thanks Jen. I hope we can make you smile with all out present cards :)

studbo 10-19-2006 07:39 PM

Virtual hugs being sent your way Jen! What a wonderful challenge! We all need to slow down and remember what and who is important in our life. Thanks for the reminder.

Carol Scheevel 10-19-2006 07:42 PM

What a special challenge. My first 2 babies died, and then my next 2 babies were total miracles (one adopted, and one "natural" only 10 months apart) so this will be a special challenge as we remember that The Lord Gives and The Lord Takes Away...Blessed Be the Name of the Lord. Everything we have is a gift from him. I NEVER use that present stamp in the old old set, Perfect Party, so this is the perfect reason! Thanks for the challenge and for sharing your story with us.

mybearybest 10-19-2006 08:08 PM

Love the sentiment behind this challenge. I'll make time to play this one. :)

Wendybell 10-19-2006 08:12 PM

diana11460 10-19-2006 08:20 PM

Hugs Jen!! My one and only was a premie as well, (not as early as yours) - he spent 6 weeks in NICU. I am thankful to have my special little guy every day, he truely is a gift and hope I have a chance to do this challenge in my otherwise crazy day (it's Friday here already and my plate is full)!

raduse 10-19-2006 08:22 PM

Great challenge Jen. Thanks for the reminder to slow down and thank God for what we have.

calistamper 10-19-2006 09:05 PM

This will be my first Challenge and I can say I am so proud to be part of it.

I can't wait to start playing with my stamps :) I have a class tomorrow night so I will have to take some time out for myself.

Your story really touched me. You and your family are in my thoughts

I decided to use a layout as my gift. Also after looking at my card, I realized it somewhat resembled a present.

Stampernmore 10-19-2006 10:23 PM

Jen, thank you for sharing your story with us. Just know I am sending you hugs too. Thanks for the challenge.

Vicky Gould 10-20-2006 01:01 AM

Jen, your gift of life truly is a miracle. I, too, lost a child before I could hold him and I know that there will always be a special place in your heart for your deceased son. Enjoy the miracle of your oldest son!!! Big hugs to you during what still is a difficult time for you and your hubby! On to the "Gift of Life." Thanks for always taking time out of your busy life to spur us on with the challenges!

After reading your story, Jen, I knew this was a challenge I had to do. Thank you for sharing that part of you with us. Hugs to you and your family.

Once I started this one just could stop until I was finished. So here it is:

What a neat idea, Jen! And what a special day for you! Maybe if I get myself in gear, I'll have time to do this before leaving for work this morning!

smitty2004 10-20-2006 02:34 AM

loislane125 10-20-2006 03:10 AM

Thank you Jen for sharing with us this story! I too have 2 miracles in my children. I was on complete bed rest with both and spent a lot of time in the hospital trying to carry them as long as possible! My DS and I almost didn't make it. But God is good! I can't thank him enough for seeing us through! God bless you and your family!!!!
Thanks for this special challenge! I appreciate the time and effort you put into these challenges each week!

Vicky Gould 10-20-2006 03:15 AM

Well, Jen, I have to thank you for give me some food for thought and posting last night so I could reflect on your story in the stillness of the morning. Although I used the Mother and Child for the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, I felt it was fitting here too. Have a blessed day, Jen - you and your family deserve it! God bless all of you.

p.s. I got instant approval - could things be returning to normal!

notimetostamp 10-20-2006 03:31 AM

What a touching and beautiful story, Jen. Thanks so much for sharing -- every once in a while we all need a little nudge from someone to make us remember and appreciate all we have to be thankful for -- thanks for sharing.

I have one gift stamp, so I'm set. But probably can't play this for a few days, but I will!!!

NANCYRUTH 10-20-2006 03:52 AM

Oh, and give your little guy a huge hug!

Thanks, Jen, for the reminder of the precious gifts we receive. The four packages on my card represent my dearest gifts of son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters.

Here are my gifts Under the Tree

Speedystamper 10-20-2006 05:06 AM

Thanks, Jen, for sharing your heart touching story. I made my card with three gifts in recognition of my three daughters who brighten my life every day.

Vicky Gould 10-20-2006 05:53 AM

OK, I had this great idea - which when put to paper doesn't match up with the idea. I think the third panel needs some wallpaper and am going to try that - any suggestions? By the way, all three panels are the right sizes - I just copied it and placed them side by side to get in one photo.

reneejul1 10-20-2006 05:57 AM

Here is my entry for today, hope you like it!

DawnL 10-20-2006 05:57 AM

Jen, hope these bring a smile to your day;) I needed some 'good' birthday cards so the challenge was perfect!!

for you

sherristampsalot 10-20-2006 06:02 AM

What a touching story...big hugs to you and your little guy.

I haven't been able to do a challenge in a long time but I'm off today so *hopefully* I will be able to!

imastampin 10-20-2006 06:12 AM

When I saw this card in the gallery, I knew I would try it one day. Today's the day with this challenge.

robynstamps 10-20-2006 06:13 AM

Jen I will definitely do the challenge today. All of my children are a gift. I have had 2 m/c in between my children. I cannot even imagine how tough it had to have been to lose a child. My heart goes out to you. I'm going to hug all my children today and have them also make a card for your challenge.
