Cool Any fruitcake freaks???

I just wanted to know if anyone else enjoys fruitcake this time of year. I do, but only a small piece and only a 'good' fruitcake

I wonder what the majority is....

I only like Mary of Puddin' Hill, from Greenville, TX. I've had Collin Street from Corsicana, and a few others, but nothing is as good as Mary's. It is mostly nuts, with GOOD candied fruit, and no bitter citron. It is the best! They send out a catalog at Christmastime each year, and back in the good ol' days when I was a kid, they attached a paper-thin sample slice (shrinkwrapped) to the catalog. My mom would always let me have the sample. Yum!

Dear old mom has assured me that she's already been to the Puddin Hill store for this year's stocking stuffers. They make great candy and other treats, too.

Only GOOD fruitcake, but yes, I love that.

The one those monks make is great and American Spoon Foods has a great chocolate/cherry fruitcake that is DIVINE!

I had to reply to this and say that no, I can't stand fruitcake, but DH LOVES the stuff. He gets them all to himself and couldn't be happier.

I've only ever had my sister's fruitcake (which she makes using my Dad's mother's recipe) and my grandmother-in-law's. My sister's is *amazing* and several people who hate fruitcake like hers once they try it, and of course my GIL's cake is great!

I said only good fruitcake, and that would be MINE!!!

Yes, I make fruitcake, but I only use dried fruit. I don't let that nasty, candied "fruit" anywhere near my fruitcake!!! Can you all tell that I don't like candied stuff?

I do use the candied red cherries in cookies, however....

Anyway, I digress. I make fruitcake with dried cherries, golden raisins, currants, apricots, cranberries, blueberries and dark raisins. It also has rum, apple cider, and pecans (if I remember to buy them). Actually, the recipe itself is a takeoff on Alton Brown's Free Range Fruitcake...from Good Eats on the food channel.

I just saw his show the other night and he made this fruitcake! It tastes so much better using dried fruit......instead of the sticky, nasty, candied 'fruit'--Blech!

I do not like fruit cake! I have tried many different kinds and cannot make myself like it!

The only fruit cake that I have had would make a better door stopper than a cake.

But if there are good ones out there I may have to give it a try again. But don't hold me to it. I still get the heeby-geebies every time I see one.

I adore all fruit cake, particularly my mom's recipe. I'll eat any that come my way though.

Me too! My family & friends think it's disgusting and can't believe that I eat it. I just say, "more for me!"

I've never had it, but my husband claims he loves it. He just enlightened me with this information the other day and we've been together eight years (married 6)!

Don't feel bad...we've been married 22 years and have known each other 5 more years than that and mine STILL surprises me with likes/dislikes that I had never heard before!
