Default Anyone have a box of cherry jello??

My best friend is trying to figure out what gave her hives and she's not at home, and ate some cherry jello. Anyone have a box handy?? What RED dyes are in it??

The only box I have handy is raspberry, but what makes it the red color is Red #40. My DH is a food scientist and lots of food have Red 40 in them. Does she want the ingredients on my box??

Gelatin, Adipic acid (for tartness), disodium phosphate (controls acidity), maltodextrin (from corn) fumaric acid (for tartness), contains less than 2% of articificial flavor, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium (sweeteners), salt, red 40.

Is she allergic to corn? What about aspartame??

i am the friend. I am some red jello at lunch. It might not have been cherry, but it was definelty red. I am allergic to red dye #28 or 26 (I never remember which one it is.) I am trying to figure out if it is in any red jello's.

it's either red 26 or 28 that she's allergic to. I'm wondering if it was strawberry jello....I don't know if there's any difference in the dye for it than is in the others. All I have is watermellon and it wasn't in it either. She's not allergic to corn or aspartame

I have strawberry, mixed fruit and a couple other red ones and they all have red 40. You might try looking on the jello website. I hope you feel better soon!

Katie girl, you need to find yourself some Benadryl! That will help the hives go away and the creepy crawly feeling subside. I HATE having hives! Ugh...hope you feel better soon!

If it was sugar free gelatin, I'd be very suspicious of the nutrasweet/aspartame. Out East I had a friend that was trying to lose weight during nutrasweet's heyday. She was drinking tea, eating SF products left and right. She came down with a bad case of the hives. Told her I suspected the nutrasweet because I'd read on the dangers of it (I call it nutra poison). She discontinued the nutrasweet and the hives cleared up.
