FF16DrSonja Chatter Thread **Card Drive Challenge**
Challenge Title: Birthday Cards with a Special Wrinkle
to Benefit Hospice of St. Francis
Hostess: Dr Sonja -- (Sonja Van Laar)
Keyword: FF16DrSonja
Date: Tuesday, October 11, 2016
Our first charity card drive is to benefit Hospice of St. Francis in Melbourne, FL. As Lydia has explained in the introductory thread, their biggest need is birthday cards. Each card should be blank inside, and sent with an envelope.
To get your creative mojo revved up, this challenge is to make your birthday card with some wrinkles! I sometimes feel, as I grow older, that birthdays bring more wrinkles than presents. However, with card making techniques, we can put these wrinkles to our advantage. You may want to try a new technique, or stick with old favorites, in any case - add some wrinkles to a birthday card:
Faux Silk tutorial
Distress techniques
Shabby Chic techniques
You might also try using materials that are corrugated, crinkled, crushed, texture paste, ridged, rumpled or any other version of wrinkles you can think of
After you post to the gallery, package your cards carefully and send your gift to:
Mary Larson, Volunteer Coordinator
Hospice of St. Francis
4875 North Wickham Road, Suite 104
Melbourne, FL 32940
Let's make Mary's wish come true to have a handmade card for every patient at the ready.
Thank you to the hostesses who created sample cards:
Ann, Teresa, Holly, Patty, Lisa, Kyra, Ceal

UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. All Falliday Fest Challenge Entries must be uploaded to the Falliday Fest Gallery, with the specific challenge keyword, no later than October 31, 2016 at 12:00 Noon Central Time to be eligible for our fabulous prizes! Post a link to your entry in this thread.
2. You may not combine challenges, but you are welcome to create multiple cards for each challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
4. Please donate as many cards from this challenge as you can to our four Falliday Fest card drives. You can find all the details in the Falliday Fest Challenge Forum!
Remember that you can make a birthday card using any of the Falliday Fest challenges as the card design, background, theme or technique. Especially if you do not celebrate the traditional holidays, please use these challenges to stimulate your creativity to make birthday cards you can donate to Hospice of St. Francis or the other charity drives. Thank you for your generosity.

Should the cards be blank, or are we to do a generic birthday message? Handwritten? Packaged with envelope in a clear envelope?

Is this something we need to wait to send them to later after the hurricane clean up is done or are they all OK where they are at?

I'm guessing the clear envelope packaging isn't necessary but might be considerate, especially if we send more than one card. Clarify, please.

Someone asked last week about clear envelopes and the answer was we didn't need to put them in clear envelopes. Not sure where I saw that question now.

Good morning to everyone on the East Coast! I just opened my eyes in sunny California. I am excited to see all the activity so far. After my shower I am off to work but I will check back at lunch time to see the lovely birthday cards!
Have fun with the challenge. As Patti said - it is a simple technique that makes stunning results - so make a few extra while you are at it! St. Francis will appreciate the love.

Nice but not necessary.
For those of use who have the clear envelopes - of course, use them. They keep the card clean, keep the envelope and card together, make a nice presentation of the card, looks professional.
For those who are new to the challenges and have no clue what a clear envelope is - don't worry - just make a card, have fun, send it to St. Francis. Everyone is encouraged to participate and we don't want the lack of a special supply to interfere with the joy.

What a fun challenge! Now to put my thinking cap on and decide what my wrinkles will be ...
P.S.: Although they're not necessary, I love putting my cards in these card jackets/sleeves. You can put the card and the envelope in them, and you can open them to see what's on the inside of the card without having to pull them out of the sleeve. Amber ("sprtchick" on SCS) sells them, and ships super, super fast.

Hi, Linda,
The only active link for techniques is the one for Faux Silk. The others are just suggestions - do anything you like and know from the many ways to distress things, shabby chic it up, or use materials that have some sort of wrinkly appearance.
Once again, a clear envelope for packaging is OPTIONAL but very nice to use if you have them. Since you do not have the clear sleeves to package your art, then just use a regular, or padded envelope to safely send your gift to St. Francis.
Thanks for participating,
Sonja

WOW! Pam, what terrific jackets for cards. 100 for $11 is a great deal, too. So nice that they can be opened to read the inside sentiment. I will definitely need to add these to my stash. Thanks for sharing.

I think use your best judgment - you know the old postal credo "neither sleet, nor hail, nor dark of night" the pony express and the mail must go through!

Another reminder - please make and post a card especially for this challenge under FF16DrSonja - -
but as you make cards for other challenges you can make them birthday cards and send them to St. Francis along with the card you made with wrinkles. For example, one challenge is to make a card with wheat or holly - those could easily be birthday cards that you include in your package.
Double or triple your fun and the challenge - - all to benefit a great cause.

Wrinkle card
Sorry no faux silk here, but a bumpy infield should count....I thought somebody might enjoy a baseball themed card.

I'm assuming I can send other birthday cards I have sitting around here collecting dust? Since Operation Write Home closed down, I've been a little sad not having a place to donate cards too. I'm SO happy to have a place to send b'day cards to where they can brighten someone's day!!

Ok, Cali Girl (alias Dr Sonja) is home from work, so time to get hopping on the commenting - Thank you to everyone who has posted a card to this challenge so far!
Don't forget, you have until 10/31/16 to post to the galley and be entered into the prize drawings - so don't stop having fun with birthday wrinkles!

I was so fixated on the word wrinkle and then saw distress technique and my brain went to the wrinkle free distress technique which isn't a wrinkle after all so I hope to come back tomorrow with something that meets the challenge more perfectly. In the meanwhile I'm uploading what I did with the challenge in mind. I look forward to sending some cards to the hospice card drive. We so appreciated the care and help from hospice during my mom's last days just over a year ago.
