You may well be able to sub, if you have a well-supplied sewing box which is highly likely .
I made a sample for the project which calls for them, and after I decided that I simply couldn't no way, no how, persuade myself that even my smaller book rings were small enough to work, I raided my sewing box and used plastic rings of the sort sold for making blinds and tiebacks. I don't have any packaging, but this sort of thing:

I don't know how they're measured, mine are just under 1" across if you measure a diameter from outer edge to outer edge. Anyway, they're soft enough to cut, and a dab of superglue has held them together again well enough that I'm perfectly happy to use my sample as a Christmas gift. I'm sure they're a bit bulkier than jump rings would be and maybe not as durable in the long term, but actually I think they look quite good .

Just a hint...Loose binder rings will probably work better than jump/keychain type rings. But, I'm sure the latter will work if that's all you have. In a pinch, I would even think twist ties will work...at least until you decide if you want to make the project "permanent" or not.

Jump rings are a jewelry supply. See here. (That is pricey because it is sterling silver; I would bet you can find base metal ones in a jewelry aisle for less.)

Without knowing what we're doing with them, you could also check a hardware aisle, see if they have smaller rings like you'd put on your key rings, or like attaches a coil bracelet to a keychain or something. My only worry about key rings is that something will be too wide or delicate to try to thread through.

My plan is not to worry about it-- in a pinch, I can probably assemble with ribbon or twice to finish and upload, then track down rings later.

Jump rings will be in the jewelry dept, or you can find them in small lots on etsy. Don't get split rings - they're more like tiny keychain rings. Jump rings are just a single wire loop, and the ends meet. You'll need 4 for the project.

I'm enjoying the shopping list! I'm going tomorrow to pick up what I don't already have. Most can be used on other projects at some point.

I have saran wrap but it's red - does it need to be clear? I'm off work tomorrow and can shop for the items I don't have (like a gold gel pan and gold paper).

I'm certain there is something in that sewing room that could be used...and I did find a binder ring to use so I'm good to go for that...

I just got a few dark gold buttons in my most recent Unity order. Hopefully they will work for the secret project.
The jump rings have me intrigued.

Colored saran wrap should work for what the project entails as long as it's regular plastic/cling wrap not Glad "Press & Seal" type.

I made my sample today and I used 26... that number might vary, but probably not a lot.

I'm shopping tomorrow. Need a sample can of shaving cream because DH uses gel. Also need a gold button, I wonder if gold mirror paper, foil or glitter paper would work?

I got jump rings today.. the 15 mm size recommended. I got way more than 4 though.. haha. I'm pretty sure there are 44 in the pack I got for $1.39.

Hmm, yes, that would have been ideal. I'm not that organized. hehe

Why not cling wrap? Isn't that pretty much the same thing as Saran wrap? I got mine at the Dollar Tree... specifically for this.

I didn't get a gold button either. I saw some, but they were BIG. I wish I'd have known what size was needed. I'm like you, I'll figure something out.. I have buttons... just no metal, I don't think.

I got the big bag of Nuggets too.... hehe! The assorted ones.

I would think for a holiday napkin you could possibly substitute stamped tissue paper?

Walmart only had 4, 6, and 8mm jump rings so I didn't get any today. There's still time and I see a trip to Michaels in my future! I got some napkins, but not crazy about them, so I will still try to find different ones on my Michaels trip.

I found 12mm, but not 15. I'll wait and see what we need them for and see if I want to pay Amazon prices for some or just skip that challenge. I need to pick up shaving cream! I've been meaning to for ages to try some techniques and I always forget.

I found some 15 mm at acmoore, but most had 12 mm as the largest size. I have binder rings but the smallest I have is 1" in those.

The cheaper, off-brand cling wrap is actually better! For reasons I can't disclose. I like the Target brand.

Don't worry if you don't have everything before tomorrow - some things will be MUCH clearer after you see the actual challenges - and you have two weeks, plus a catch up week - TONS of time

See you in the morning!

I'm quite behind with the challenges now. Not sure if or when I'll catch up. I guess time will tell. I'm writing down the card requirements and I think I'll get those done before the deadline but I'm not sure about the projects. I don't want to spend more money if they are things I don't think I can use or gift to someone. Still need to buy the nuggets, I definitely want to try that one! I've only been able to find packages of jump rings that are assorted with more than I'd ever need since I'm not into jewelry making and haven't found any binder rings that small..... I haven't been to Hobby Lobby yet, though.....

You may be able to substitute twine, or twist ties or something for jump rings. I had to buy an assortment to get 15 mm size but I'm sure I'll use them sometime. Just hope I have enough in 15 mm size in the pack. I think there are six of each three sizes! Today's tutorial is totally doable!

I was able to find a pack of 15mm jump rings... I believe at Pat Catan's. I'm way behind too, Lynn. I haven't done one challenge yet. I've been so busy. =( I was hoping to try to do all the challenges to be eligible for the bigger prize pool.. but found out I also have to do half the tutorials. *sigh* So yeah, I really don't know. =/

Jennifer, I've heard of Pat Catans but never shopped there. Do they have stores or is that online shopping? I looked at Walmart, Michaels, and acmoore but the largest size I found was 12 mm and I wasn't sure if they'd be big enough. Luckily I found the assortment size that had six 15 mm. I never heard of jump rings before this shopping list!
