Challenge Title: From Trash to Treasure
Hostess: Forest Ranger aka Jeanette Keyword: FF17ForestRanger Date: 10.20.2017 I hope you've been enjoying Falliday Fest! It's really a great way to celebrate the fall season - getting creative, chatting with fellow crafters, and perusing the amazing talent here on SCS. For my challenge I've chosen the theme From Trash to Treasure. That does not mean you'll be required to go dumpster diving, but it does mean you need to find some item to "recycle" on your creation. It can be anything - a bread tab, a piece of corrugated cardboard from a box, an item from nature, a piece of the bag the onions came in, etc. The most important part of all is to have fun! VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE View the Falliday Fest Gallery HERE View the Falliday Fest Master Challenge Thread HERE UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Oh how fun! It's time to start digging around for trash, so we can make treasures. Come join me, please!

Vicks Tissue Boxes are lined with the best shiny silver coating ... perfect for recycling.
Think Pink |
Oh my goodness, Stef(?)! Your card is amazing! And I had no idea I should be looking inside the boxes/packages for amazing trash that can be turned into treasures. I'm definitely going to add that to my list of places to check.
|
I was saving this beautiful gift wrap paper that I had received for my birthday. Your challenge was the perfect time to recycle it. Perhaps this card will go to the person who gave me the gift. : ) Thanks, Jeanette.
LEAPING STAG |
Sallie, I'm sorry, but I just drooled all over your gorgeous card! That gift wrap... WOW! You did such a good thing in saving it and using it on your card. I think whoever receives it (and the person who gave you the gift seems like the logical recipient) will flip out over how stunning your card is!
|
Hmmm... I wonder how I could use these two "trash" items on a card???

I'm back to show what I did with that bag and the Chipotle paper.
I punched scalloped circles (alternating the two papers) to make my flower... and I also cut a belly band from the bag for my card. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...40186cc27b.png |
Anita, I am blown away by that idea. A CD is a great addition to a card because it is so shiny and pretty. And your card is amazing. I'm admiring your ribbon treatment, too. Very very creative!
|
oh this is totally right up my ally Jeanette...
( <----- this girl squirrels away treasures for someday too ;) ) (now if only it was "after work" instead of before..) |
Stacy... I'm sorry work is getting in the way of creativity right now. Hopefully work will go by quickly and then you can deal with some trash. ;)
|
Great challenge Jeanette! I used a few recycled things on my card ;)

Awwww.... thanks Polly!
Goodness, girl, do you think you could have recycled anything else on your card. So much fun to look at your multi-recycling. I wanted to pet your card, it was so luscious. I'm feeling a need for a road trip now, though. Sheesh! I wonder what my DH would think about that? (He actually got his doctorate in your city, BTW.) I love your siggy... I, too, love someone with autism! |
Thanks, Jeanette, for a fun challenge!! Hubby and I used our toaster oven just about every day and tear small pieces of foil and leave them in the drawer. I grabbed one of those torn pieces to use on my card today.
Let's Roll! |

What a great challenge Jeanette. I went to my trash and found some bubble wrap and gold paper. I used my distress oxides for the background with bubble wrap and used a punch for the snowflake out of the gold paper. Had a blast with this challenge. You can see my card HERE.

A challenge that I love! went with SU's patterns of friendship and quirky quips for my images and sentiment. Added the following "treasures":

Oh my goodness... so much fun happening here in the From Trash to Treasure challenge!
Angie, your card with the foil... I need to start cooking so I can use some foil, too. How fun. And you even embossed it. Impressive! Kathy, I was so excited to see your card - and how you used the leftover piece from where you die-cut your luminary. WOW! Tracie, bubble wrap! It is fun stuff. Perfect for packing, fun to pop... and now an amazing stamping tool, too! Love it! And the beautiful gold snowflake was a great addition to your card! Julia, you recycled and recycled and recycled some more and it all looks fabulous! You are my hero when it comes to going from Trash to Treasure! |
Ok, this challenge had me wondering why I even bother buying as many craft supplies as I do! There is so much crafting treasure in what we throw away!https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/g.../photo/2831398
|
Nicole, you have WOW'ed me! I love the way you took a bag and did so many different things to it to get it to look so fabulous. You are a very artistic crafter. Now about the buying supplies comment... LOL!

Well now, I've found another piece of trash - I actually pulled this out of the trash can in our laundry room. My DH decided he didn't need this, whatever "this" is.... but I thought it might work on a card. I wonder what I can do with it???
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...51b39debb6.jpg I'll be back in a bit... as soon as I figure out what to do with this piece of trash. SaveSave |
I recycled a real leaf that I embossed for my Trash to Treasure card! https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/g...0&ppuser=93535

Here is my little project that I came up with in my recylcing efforts:

Oh I just made a card using this same theme last week - one man's trash!
My original card is here in the gallery, using a lid as a shaker card! https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/g...&ppuser=177425 For today's challenge, I used the other part of the container - the base! I made a spotlight card :) You can see that here, in the gallery for Forest Ranger! https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/g...&ppuser=177425 What a fun theme! |
Okay, here's what I came up with. That little patch of velour from the trash made me think of a body of water.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...e27a5d7174.png |
Julia, that's awesome... you used a real leaf. And even thought to embalm it to help preserve it for the recipient. Very clever and a beautiful card!
Liz, I actually saw your door hanger earlier today in the gallery and was just amazed. It is fun to see what you can use with something others - me - would have thrown away without thinking. Kelly, WOW! I love your cards - both the one from a time ago and the one you made for this challenge, both using elements of the same cup. Now that IS amazing because even if I had thought to make the first one, I would have thrown away the things from that cup that I didn't use as soon as I'd finished that card. Not you. You have mastered recycling! |
Here's my card. I wanted to use an old book page but it kept crumbling, so I copied it onto card stock but showed the page at the bottom of the photo. The butterflies are from the actual book page.

Here is mine! I had to remake the flower a couple times. FYI; It is not heat embossable. You're Amazing

Treasured Birch
I am always up for a recycled material challenge. Thanks!
Here's a little trash and a little treasure. https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/g...&ppuser=419683 |
Here's my card: floral birthday.
|
Here is my Pretty Package. I recycled a nut tin. Thanks for inspiring me to turn my trash into treasure!
|
Three Peaches
|
Here's mine: noel. I tried to use non-paper trash...
|
Oh WOW!!! WOW WOW WOW! You ladies are amazing!
Kandie, your card with the vintage book page is so pretty. You've distressed and added such fun butterflies, bird, and embellishments. Awesome! Shannon, the way you used the netting is just amazing. That flower turned out gorgeous, as is your card! Artzadoni (I'm sorry I don't know your name), I would have never ever thought to use birch bark on a card... and it looks fabulous! And then there's that peach bag. What a fun idea to add faces to the peaches and the "You're a Peach" sentiment. You are so clever! Melody, I wanted to sniff those flowers they looked so fabulous. And that corrugated paper. WOW! Beautiful card! Kelly, I loved the way you took a nut tin and decorated it. That is true recycling and it looks so nice! Brenda, I am amazed that you were able to get the vegetable bag to lie so flat and look so uniform. That must have taken talent. And the shine of your card - from the foil and aluminum pie pan add to its beauty! Thank you - each of you - for going from Trash to Treasure today! |
Okay I think I have time to challenge myself to one more card tonight.
What shall I do with this piece of trash??? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...63daa8a21a.jpg I'll be back as soon as I figure something out. ;) |
|
My trash is a card front from a birthday card I was going to throw away. Here’s mine:

Here's what I came up with for that M & M package...

Had a day out with my daughter buying an outfit for Semi Formal next month so I used a very obviously recyclable tag and ribbon from a cookie tin along with a leftover bg to make a quick Christmas card.
