Today's tutorial: Honeycomb Ornament
Author: Becca Feeken (Becca Stamps)
Gallery: Technique Spotlight >> Holiday Blitz Gallery >> Honeycomb Ornament
Keyword: 2018BLITZ6
Date: Nov. 11, 2018

I took Becca's beautiful ornament and turned it into a pumpkin for some Thanksgiving decor! I used 9 3 1/8" ovals for mine and did the glue dots in the same position - if you were looking at a clock I did 9 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock for the first layer, and then like between 7 &8 and between 4 & 5 for the second layer and then back to the first pattern - basically the same as she shows in the video.

I loved to make my big honeycomb ball and the small balloon too it's really fun and not as difficult as you think I'll put 2 pictures in thumbnail to show the glue lines from my big ball

Fantastic Anita! Gotta try the way you did it with tape!!

The placement of my glue dots was a bit off so it didn't come out as expected, but I gave it a good try!

I'll make a picture for you, just need to die cut some circles will be back in a moment

muscrat 11-11-2018 01:31 PM

Anita, sorry to put you to extra work! I think I figured it out and I got a much better honeycomb this time! My biggest problem was heavy paper and tape that wasn't strong. But this came out so much better than my last attempt! Thank you!

I finished already so show the pictures if this can help someone

you fold the circles and each circle has a tape line on the inside in the middle
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...b0cb9e7829.jpg

then you put on top of each circle 2 parts of tape on each side like here

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...0f957a251a.jpg

than you peel off the protection of the double side tape from the next layer and glue it on the first one

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spl...5ec12f2fcc.jpg

and you continue till you finish all the circles this one has got 12 circles really light paper such as colored paper for your printer

I hope this is helpful

muscrat 11-11-2018 02:04 PM

That's very helpful! I'm going to give it another go once I get some lighter weight paper. Thanks so much for sharing it!

muscrat 11-11-2018 04:04 PM

One more attempt. Even better because I made the circles bigger and used a better glue, but the paper was still a bit thick.

2018BLITZ6 Holiday Acorn

This was fun! I used an acorn punch, applied to turquoise origami paper and starred vellum paper. Here's a closeup of the ornament, and a shot of the full ornament, set against my snowy paper holiday home.

I love that hack Anita!! I'll do that next time!

Kathy - the thinner the better - that's why I used copy paper for my prints.

I can add the video now that it's published.

Video added to first post!

muscrat 11-12-2018 09:37 AM

Well slap me silly. I never thought of using gel prints from copy paper. The only copy weight paper I had was white! Duh! Must be the headache that shut my brain down!

I couldn't resist
