So I kind of cracked my gelli plate getting it out of the dish this morning. I had read online somebody remelted theirs so that's what I did. Back in the fridge and waiting…

Hey everyone! Lydia and I are both away from home this week - I am at my mom's in Idaho and Lydia is at the Stampin' Up convention in SLC. So all good stuff, and we're peeking in when we can - in the meantime, make pretty things and talk amongst yourselves!

Good morning! I hope you're feeling better today! And to everyone who brought up the Gelli Plates - thank you! You may have given me an "answer" for my husband's relentless questioning of what I want for Christmas!!! hehe (Well, since an addition to the house for a craft room is out of the question! HA!)

I was really bummed to not get to participate more in Falliday Fest this year - I got a couple of cards done that first weekend, but then kind of fell of the face of the planet, I realize. I was keeping my horse at my parents' a 100 miles away during grazing season, and thankfully the pasture pretty much lasted up until last weekend when I finally brought him further north for his winter boarding. I don't know that I'll be able to dive all-in next year, either, as prayerfully we may be building a home then (where my horse will be living with us instead of elsewhere! YAY! Thank You, Lord!), but once that's allllll done and we're finally settled in, I will be gunning for Yeti status myself! I CAN'T WAIT! It's particularly good timing to have it in the fall like it is, as my husband loves hunting upland game so I get most October weekends alllllll to myself!

THANK YOU SCS for putting this incredible fun event on for us! I can only imagine even a little bit of all the work that goes into coordinating such a huge craft fest and I am SO thankful that you do this for us! Crafting IS my therapy (in addition to my horses!), Im certain Im not the only one here who feels the same way, and this means SO much to get to participate in something so fun with like-minded, creative folks in this fantastic community!!!!

The second run at it looks a lot better than the first. I dont think my water was hot enough to dissolve the gelatin the first time.
However now I am out in the field sitting in the tractor as we finish our last 25 acres of corn harvest. Yay! So I havent been able to try it out yet, but Ill let you know when I do!

Here is another monoprinting tutorial using pigment inks - the photo tutorial is done with a glass plate but I updated the video to include the Gelli Plate as well.

Default A few minutes to chat

I just had to chime in with a little chatter...my DH Is a wonderful guy and we have been married for 26 years, but he gets nerveous when I experiment with paint. He really should have married an accountant. He can spot a speck of paint from the other side of tgge room. He left this morning on a 3 day business trip...well I got home from work at 6:30, made my sons dinner, and dove head first into acrylics, watercolors, and my sprey bottles. There is paint all over my kitchen, hands...evrrn the dog got a little on her nose. WHOO hoo, what fun. I wish you could all come over to play. Too bad I have to work tomorrow. I would much rather play with paint.

Isn’t it fun, Francie?! Like being a little kid again! I worked in Oxides yesterday and Alcohol Inks and watercolor, and my hands were so multicolored! I love it! (Even the dog?) lol

Francie - I do the same. Except mine is painting the house. I wait until my DH goes on one of his fishing trips. HA!

oh that is so funny, my own husband is very very handy but, despises painting... so he makes things and drags me to home depot and pays for what ever paint or brushes I want to finish his thing. ( house or what ever)
So I laughed out loud with you Tracie that you wait for fishing trips to get things done.

( Its upland game bird season here though so, Saturday mornings are mine to do what ever and the dog is not underfoot to get splattered)

I tried the acetate with destress ink last night, it didn't work...

Maybe there will be a Black Friday sale on-line to purchase a Gelli-Plate...I'd invest in making one but am afraid it would get moldy and then I would be out not only the money but the time also.

Mine lasted for weeks before it got gross and if you didn't want to spend so much you could make a smaller one.

I think its worth the money to buy a gelli arts plate and not have to worry about the mold. I was going to make one too, but my worry was that it would mold and then I'd have to do it again since I love using it. I have a 6x6 size, which works great for what I need. I could see buying one at least the size of card stock because you could cut the prints down.

Mine looks great this time although I still haven't had time to use it. I let it warm up before taking it out of the dish and it came right out in one piece. It is about 5 x7. I had 3 envelopes of Knox in the cupboard so it didn't cost anything. I put it in an empty stamp case. Hoping to play with it tonight. I didn't realize it would get moldy but it's pretty cool in my craft room so that may help. Mostly I just want to see if it's something I would use a lot before I invest in a real one!

That's why and how I made one first too. I already had acrylic paints and a brayer and even some stencils so I had all the stuff to give it a whirl and see whether I would like it or was any good at it before I bought the plate.

This past week has been a blur. My head is still spinning! HA! So much going on with hubby's heart health, my daughters baby shower, out of town guest and a few family dinners. I think today is the first day back in my art room since Falliday Fest ended.

My SIL announced her third pregnancy shortly before she came out to visit and attend my daughters baby shower. I made her a congratulatory card and gave it to her at a restaurant. After we finished eating, she noticed the card was missing. When she couldn't find it after looking around a couple times, she had a meltdown, "THIS IS NOT OKAY!, Shannon, I save every card you make!" I nearly cried, it was so sweet. I assured her I could make her another, nearly exact. She calmed down and we continued on with the night. Just before we left, a server brought the card over, it had been tucked into a menu. We all erupted in cheers & applause!! LOL!! WHEW!!

I am VERY late to this party, but I think the gelli plate is something I will try. However, I need help. I spent a little time on line looking at possibilities and I am a bit overwhelmed - what does every one recommend? And what are the must-haves to go with it?

Maybe you will get an answer and I will get to enjoy reading people's response...

People have said that they have it and like it but not which one they bought or where...maybe that isn't okay to say on SCS...thought someone would pm me with details if it wasn't okay...

I'm still on the search, looks like HL has one but need my husband to find it for me...which will be like finding a needle in a haystack since I have no clue where he should look or what it is he's looking for!

Went to play with my gelli plate last night and couldn't find "my" brayer. Dd2 had one and I thought she left it with me but I texted her and she has it there....3,800 miles away. Guess I'll have to get my own. Thinking of trying a credit card. Does anyone know if that works?

Dorthy, I bought a book and so, the book recommended acrylic paints, a brayer, deli sheets, and things to make patterns with. so I have used say embossing folders in mine.

I started out with this 6" square one and then picked up the bigger 8X10 one later down the road knowing I could cut down the prints.

it could? it doesn't hurt anything to try right? its just paper.

eta you just have to move faster I think to get the coat on flat so you can make your pattern to press before the paint dries

I have that one Stacy linked and love it. I'd probably go bigger next time, but this does all I need for cardmaking

Sorry to be "off topic" on gelli. I don't get a lot of chances to craft and to get on here and chat but, today is a holiday off work. Thank you to all the hostesses and everyone who posted cards. I had so much fun participating and I love seeing all the beautiful cards! Many thanks!!!!

Enjoy your day off of work...

I now found what it is called at HL and my husband will see if he can find it before he leaves the metro this afternoon...

Here is HL's link https://www.hobbylobby.com/Scrapbook...ate/p/80826087 and he will use a coupon!

Hope you like it. I bought a stampendous creative pallet, but it is not as soft and flexible as the gelli arts plate. It works, but if find myself going back to the 6x6

Hi, Dianne ( I am grinning because, my mil spells her given name the same way and people are always getting it wrong) (and I think there is nothing "off topic" )

Thanks for the input regarding gelli plates. I am guessing that "gelli" is actually the brand name... kind of like Kleenex????

I think gelli and gel are kind of generic. Gelli Arts is a company who makes a gelli plate. I could be wrong.

Here's a good article about gelatin printing and the author says she's been doing it since '99.The Gelli Arts folks were the first to manufacture a permanent plate but now there are lots of imitators out there, and Gelli Arts have more sizes available. The others call themselves gel presses or the like because Gelli-Plate is a trademark of the so your comparison to Kleenex is apt.

I think the only must haves would be press, paints and brayer and a big pile of paper. Different acrylic paints have different properties. Some are thicker, others more watery and this affects drying time sometimes described as how long they are open. People are also now using oxide inks and other inks, but I haven't tried that yet. Stencils are great, but found objects with texture can be just as good: bubble wrap, netting, feathers, leaves etc. I have diecut plastic packaging and used those. Textured fun foam, drawer liners, sink mats, shoe soles or anything with pattern will work. Combs, cardboard cut with various edges etc can add wavy lines. Solid stamps or bg stamps can remove or add paint. The possibilities are endless and other than adding more stencils and paint colors, the initial investment in the plate has been my main cost (if you already have a brayer).

All this talking about Gel printing has me itchy for a printmaking session! Maybe if I get my chores done early today I can reward myself.

I have no willpower to ignore/not read the things people are saying. So my wish list grows.
