Hi Sweet Sisters in Christ!!

Wow, I cannot believe it is July already!! We have been so busy trying to rearrange and get our home ready for sale (this is our small home that we have owned for 34 years and needs a lot if work )

Still trying to carve out time to be able to Bible Journal but as I am getting older, it seems to take more time to do things than when I was younger....

The theme for July will be Eternal and/or Eternity with a second optional theme of Freedom.

I am so thankful that we have freedom in Christ as well as the promise of eternal life with Him! I long for the day when I will meet my Savior face to face and spend all eternity with Him in Heaven, don't you?

May the Lord bless you all this month and I am looking forward to seeing your creative journaling- hugs!

My Eternal/Eternity + Freedom page is finished. It's scheduled for my blog in a few days, at which time I'll add it to the gallery and pop in here to share it, too.

GREAT theme!!!

Awesome theme(s) Julie. I know what you mean about things being harder when you get a bit older. Dear DH use to be able to do anything we needed, but with his back and foot issues, he can't do much anymore. We need to do some work on our house and have realized we will have to have it done by others - that raises the cost so much we really have to think hard about it.

Can't wait to so some BAJ pages with these themes. Happy Holiday to all or just a good Wednesday if you are not off. Hugz

I'm jumping in to Bible journal as a way to leave my thoughts and spiritual journey to my oldest granddaughter!

I have one of the Bibles from my paternal grandmother, it has a few notes in it. I cherish this as she is the grandmother that took me to VBS where I heard about God's love. She was not allowed to be a part of my life after I was 6 or 7 years old, until I became an adult and had freedom in relationships. My paternal aunt gave me the Bible when her mother died.

I also had my maternal grandmother's Bible, had that rebound and have given it to my daughter.

I'm not sure I'm into the Art part of Bible Art Journal but I want to use stamps, inks and pens in a way that I can leave thoughts, words and pictures on scripture pages for Baby Grand to read when she is older and I may have already died.

Reading through this thread and pming with Nancy I realize I may have jumped in without a life jacket on into this BAJ waters!

Julie I am going to enjoy using your monthly word or thought to start my journey along with my desire to do detailed journal in Philippians and James.

I need to wait to begin until I have the right supplies, didn't know that regular pen and ink would not do well on the pages!

Good Morning to all of my Bible Journaling Friends!

Faye, it's good to see you here... and what a fabulous reason to Bible Journal!

Nancy, I'm sorry about your DH's back/foot challenges... does he get frustrated that he can't do what he used to do?

Arrow Jeanette's July BAJ

Good Morning Fellow Bible Journalers! Here's my Eternal/Eternity + Freedom page...

Obviously the verse I chose speaks directly of eternal life - "And anyone who believes in God's Son has eternal life." (John 3:36a) We also have freedom (freedom from our sin) by believing in God's Son.

You can also find my BAJ page in the gallery...

Faye, so glad to see you here!

I use regular pens all the time! You have to check them out and make sure they don't bleed through or smear. Microns and SU! Journaling pens work very well. Some of my ink pens work really good. There are times I just grab whatever is around. Sometimes I don't care if it bleeds through - I just use whatever comes through on the other page as something in my new page or I cover it like Jeanette did in her example with papers or other items. This is totally what you want it to be and the rules are only your own. I have even used coffee and wine on my pages - pm if you want tips on them.

I have used chalk in my bible too - it worked good and looked good but over time, it has started to fade. I am even ok with that - it may look even better as a kind of ghost image. I know I can spray a sealer of it, but probably won't ever remember to do it.

With some gesso you make any ink or pen work most likely.

Jump in and let us know when you do!!!!

Jeanette, I love the colors, patterns and fun use of the circles on your freedom page. You do the best things with paper - I so need to do that more.

Wonderful verses to highlight and think on.

Your page just gave me some wonderful ideas - thanks for sharing.

Eternity page

Rooted in A Promise by nwilliams6 - at Splitcoaststampers

Love the new Rooted in Nature set. I did it in distress ink and didn't page prep so it bled through to the other side, but it looks great so I am just going to incorporate it into that other page as well.

Jeanette, I just saw your comment about my DH's foot. Yes, he gets very depressed about not being able to do the things he use to do, but then we realize we are aging as well so it is one of those things you just have to accept. He keeps a pretty good attitude MOST of the time. Thanks for asking!!! Hugz

A kind of crazy BAJ page inspired by this week's featured stamper:

FS596 Peace BAJ by nwilliams6 - at Splitcoaststampers

Peace = freedom of the mind right?

It isn't my normal style and I smudged it a bit (working with distress crayons isn't easy for me for some reason), but it is kind of fun.

Hope you are all having a great week! Hugz

I adore your colorful page, Lynda. I saw the most amazing card yesterday and I am going to do something like it in my BIble:

F4A439 'My Lifeguard' Bookmark by angelladcrockett - at Splitcoaststampers

Isn't Angie's card inspiring?

Also Ky's mixed media challenge from this week to embed some fabric would be cool to try in BAJ as well.

Hope you are all doing well. Hugz and blessings.

Default Hi Bible Journalers

Hi everyone, I am so glad I found this forum! I am a long-time scrapper and card making is my favorite. But last year, I happened on the Bible Journaling art form and I am happily learning as I go. I started a Bible and decided part way through the project that I would give it to my granddaughter for Christmas 2017. Understand, though, that I have three granddaughters...so I bought two more Bibles and went to work. Yes, I completed all three - about 100 illustrated pages in each Bible - on Dec 24. (!)

The girls loved their Bibles and I felt abandoned. So I bought another Bible and this one is for ME. I tried uploading some pages yesterday but something went wrong. I'm gonna try them again today. It's been so long since I uploaded to SCS - I might be missing a step. But I will try to figure it out, so I'll check in here again when I can get some pages loaded.

Blessings to all of you who are on this journal journey!

I am still sitting on the sidelines waiting for confidence to come alongside me and push me into participating!

I have the gesso, I have the pens, and I have stamps but I have no confidence for beginning this journey.

Default For Faye: Getting Started

Hi Faye: I can share a couple of comments about getting over the anxiety about starting that first page.

1.Start with a page that is not really scripture, for example a flyleaf or index page. Once you get over the idea of creating art in your Bible it comes easier.

2.After that, choose a favorite verse or concept that you can "see" in your mind's eye so that the creating part is pre-designed, at least in your mind. Save the challenging layouts for after you've had some experience.

3. Be glad that you bought gesso, but don't feel like you need to use it on every page. If you are using pencil colors or other non-bleeding media, it may not bleed though and you don't need the gesso. I found that using gesso makes the page thicker and sometimes makes the paper get wrinkly or curvy.

I just found this forum today, so I don't feel like I am authorized to say "welcome", but I can say "Hi, let's dive in together as newbies!"

Default Question about uploads

So I was partly successful in accessing the photos of my pages and uploading them. but the file sizes are huge and the pictures are equally huge when I open them in the gallery. What step am I missing?

I think you must have figured it out, because I just looked at one of your pages. You need to put keywords in, though. If you can edit, you can put in the keywords , and then save.
BAJ18
It looks like you uploaded to the Bible Art journal gallery, just didn’t use our keyword.

Welcome! I am like Faye , I am here, but haven’t had confidence to do much. Thank you for your advice! .

Good Morning Fellow Bible Journalers!

Welcome, Lois! So glad you're here!!!

Julie, I agree... I can just imagine the way Lois' "girls" must treasure their Bibles from their grandmother.

Faye, it is an amazing art form... jump in! You'll be so glad you did!

Sharon, I hope you'll get the confidence you need, too.

Now, just my own two cents about gesso. I have some. I don't like it. I don't use it. Instead, to prep pages that will either bleed or shadow through to the back too much, I apply a very thin layer of cream colored acrylic paint (it matches the color of the Bible page, so it's pretty unnoticeable). I use a plastic card like a credit card to apply it. And I can swipe again and again, ensuring that the layer is thin. It is so thin that I can still read the scripture through it. I love that method!

Great job Faye!! I have not had a chance to dive in as much as I would like either

I have at least 6 or 7 journaling bibles as well as all of the supplies needed not to mention hundreds of stamps! We are trying to get our small home ready for sale and I am organizing my craft area in our weekend home plus our main home (very long story). Anyway, I am making headway on the organization and did create a page for this month's theme but have not had the chance to photo/upload.

Hello BAJ friends,

Welcome Lois and Faye - so glad to see you have found your way to us!

A friend at work gave me a Journaling Bible for birthday a few years ago. She had been reading up on them, had bought hundreds of dollars of supplies (maybe a thousand she thinks), and watched hundreds of videos. Her plans were to start a BAJ class at her church, and she wanted me to get into it as well. I had never heard of Bible Journaling. The funny thing is I didn't mention my new Bible to my family, but a few days later, my daughter told me she had purchased a BAJ class for me for my birthday. Her MIL plus my other daughter were going as well. That first class, our instructor told us that before we even started doing the first thing in our bibles, we had to make a page that would go right into the first page of our bibles with washi tape. It was a list of what our Journaling was for and what it was not for (we could put anything on our list but we needed to put a lot of things on it until we ran out of ideas). She said to read it periodically to make sure we were following it.

I knew immediately that I needed to write that my Journaling Bible was not an excuse to buy a bunch more supplies but to find ways to use the bunches of supplies I already had (giving them new life and new justification). I also knew immediately that I needed to write it was for encouraging me and others, but not for stressing or being a perfectionist about.

So those words helped me jump right in and to post a lot of my pages as they never seem good enough to share to me (because I hate my handwriting mostly and because most times I jump right and don't plan the page well). So a few years later I have hundreds of pages done. I lead a BAJ class at 2 churches. My perfectionist friend who gave me the Bible still hasn't started her first page or her class. We always say God gave her the desire so she could get me started. I say all this (sorry about the rambling) to encourage a few of you not to worry about what your page looks like or that it isn't what you want it to be or that you don't have time or the right supplies. Jump in! Share! Don't worry! Everyone will love your pages. If they don't love your illustration or handwriting, they will love your scripture that you focused on. You will be sharing the most important things you can share - God's word and your heart.

Faye, I love your page! Lois, I am going to go check out yours. Jeanette thanks for that acrylic paint tip. Julie, you have a lot going on - I hope you sell your house soon!

Hugz!

So I was looking in the BAJ18 gallery and realized my latest page wasn't in there. I had put BAJ17 instead of 18 - I think I have done that on several of my pages. LOL! Getting old is a crazy adventure! Here is that page:

I was inspired by that lifeguard card I shared with you that Angie did.

Lois, I just read that you are on your fourth BAJ. WOW! I haven't ever talked to anyone who has finished even one Bible yet so you are such an inspiration. I am so impressed. I love your pages you posted and I feel really inspired. I wish I could skip work today and stay home and do BAJ pages! Hugz

Bible Art Journal Eph. 4:32 by FayeMakesCards - at Splitcoaststampers

I uploaded the page to my gallery.
Thank you for the kind words on this thread.
Nancy, you don't look like you are 50 so if you are using age as a memory loss adventure it will be interesting to see what you are like at 60...
Instead of thinking of it as forgetfulness I try to see it as I have a new thing to learn!

I like the stamp I have that says something like...we will be best friends until we are old, then we will be new best friends! My MIL lived for 20 years with Alzheimer's and it is a difficult disease for the family to watch but she was a happy lady being new in many areas of life and for that I was thankful that she was not in pain, mentally or physically.

Nancy, thank you so much for your wonderful words of advice! I do sometimes struggle with my perfectionist style- lol!

Faye, I am looking forward to seeing your BAJ pages in the gallery!!

For August's theme, the keyword is Sufferings or Suffer . There are quite a few verses that deal with this word or a variation, I am looking forward to seeing your journaling for this one.

I, personally, live in a lot of physical pain each day with extreme arthritis and "bone on bone" knees, but nothing like the pain our Savior endured for each one of us!

Also, for some of our "newbies"

We have our own gallery to load our journal pages-
Once you enter the "Upload A Card" click on the arrows next to the windows under "Select Galleries"- in the first window select "Anything BUT a Card", in the second window choose "Books, Handmade Albums and Journals" , in the third window choose "Art Journal Pages" and then a 4th window should appear and choose "Bible Art Journal Pages" .

Also, please use these keywords when you post to the gallery- BAJ18, Bible Art Journaling (remember to separate each with a comma) and if you have time, link your gallery upload in this forum so we can be inspired by your work and encourage you with some "love" ...

Hugs and I hope all of you have a blessed month!!

Question...

If I "gesso'd" one side of the page, do I need to gesso the other side?

I did the gesso full strength on my first page, I"m going to dilute it this time and see if I like it better.

I did not put mine in a specific place, should I move it or does a moderator need to do that for me?

Also, sorry to hear of your physical pain, you encourage me with your kinds words and thoughts. Thank for what you do for others here on SCS, I'm sure I am oblivious to what most people do as I tend to stay in my own little bubble!

I prepped a second page, but not the back of my first...decided I will continue in the book of Ephesians before I go some place else.

You gals have been chatty! And I've been busy but not in my bible. That needs to change, especially in making videos to help you along. Meanwhile, keep going!

LOL Nancy, staying home from work is the key! I could not have finished three Bibles if I'd been working full time, but I was home on FMLA with DH for three months.

Faye, I am not sure but depends on what you will be using on the back of the page. You can also use a light coat of acrylic paint versus gesso.

Anyone else have ideas for Faye?

Faye, do not worry about moving your pages. In the future, if you put the keywords in the post, we can all see your work In the meantime, we can go to your gallery.

Also, not sure if you know that you can edit your posts. Just open the gallery entry, scroll down and you should see an edit option at the bottom right.

Hope this helps! Hugs and thanks again for sharing with all of us!
