I gotta ask...is this arthritis??
Well, I am making gift tags for the ladies at my work and I just stamped out 36 stockings out with the cling mount stamps on a block with the little waves all over it. The ones that are supposed to be easier to grip. So, I am stamping away and went to change my ink colors and my middle finger, right where the first bend is (below my fingernail) was STUCK! Literally STUCK! It was bent and I could not move it. I had to actually take my OTHER hand and make it straight again :( It freaked me out a little but I got over it quickly and started with my new color. When I went to stop again...stuck again! Now it's sore. Is this what arthritis is? I am only 44 and did not think that I would have to worry about my joints until I was in my 60's at least...

Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's "stampers finger" Has this ever happened to you?

You mean like t this
You probably just overworked your hand. It got tired. Getting old sucks sometimes, doesn't it?! LOL (I'm 43 myself)

Well...not exactly like that...not the whole finger, just the top part. I told DH and he got all snarky on me "That's not ever happened to you before? Have you never done any actual work with your hands???" haha, very sarcastic I assure you. I guess it happens to him all the time.

Physical Therapy in Allentown for Hand

Scroll down to where it says "Swan Neck Deformity" and that is what it looked like. Lovely name, Swan Neck Deformity...don't you think? :) haha!

I'm only 41 and recently got told I have arthritis. One knee and just one knuckle have it very noticeably and I've every reason to suspect a few more joints aren't far behind. :( It's a real pain in the ... errr ... joints ;)
I've never had the joints freeze up like you described though.

I've done some research on both types of arthritis, and don't remember ever coming across this as a symptom. Have you tried Googling your symptoms? I Google health concerns all the time, and I find my results about 50% accurate . . . . which is not good! But it gives you things to look into, and then eliminate, and I eventually focus in on what the problem is . . . and then there is always the good old doctor's visit. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again though. Maybe a muscle spasm?

Sounds like trigger finger You can have this corrected. Something tightens up and has to be snipped to release it My friend had this done she has no porblem stamping now.

Sounds like trigger finger to me. I had it happen to my thumb and that's what to Dr called it. He said it can just happen out of the blue sometimes. If it doesn't release the have to go in and release it. After a week or two mine went away and it hasn't happen since.

I have that happen sometimes when I have done a repetitive motion - I think it is a cramp. Or maybe I'm in denial!! LOL

CraftyMel2 10-11-2012 02:52 PM

Snipping? Ouch! Well, it has come back a few times since that night but it is not so bad that I want to go get anything snipped :) It really freaked me out when it happened the first time though! I am going to go with piano5678 and say "cramp"...we shall float down de river of denial together!
