Default are you against digital image theft - STAMP OUT!

Maureen "Mo" Manning, a digital 'stamp' artist, has recently found her images pirated/stolen and sold on other website. if you're interested in supporting the stop theft effort, check out her new website, STAMP OUT!

it's sad to think that there are people out there [ones i wouldn't associate with the population of wonderful crafters i've met on SCS and other forums] that are willing to stoop to such low methods just to earn a buck!

I looked at the site this morning, too! It had to have been shut down in the last few hours. That is super odd.

I had looked at it too. The only thing I can think as to why it may have been in violation os Google's TOS is because of one the steps listed for what you could do to help. The one I am thinking that may have been an issue is telling people to posting a comment on the blog telling them the person has been reported for stealing someone's artwork. You could be putting someone in the position of fasely accusing someone of doing something they aren't doing.

Its pretty bad all around with the digital images. I designed digital scrapbook kits years ago and this was a big issue then as well. I use to have "Stamp Out Digital Piracy" as part of my tagline/signature - I think I'll put it back in there...

This is not only a digital stamp image problem. Images of rubber and clear stamps are also being taken.

As a woodcrafter( as well as a papercrafter) I'll tell you this has been happening for years in different forms. In woodcrafting you have people buy your goods ( that you have legally made using the designers patterns) and then redoing them up a bit and then calling them their creation.

Yes, I remember this as a decorative painter years ago. To this day I still see all sorts of products being sold (stamps, flags, etc.) with designs I KNOW were designed by another artist because I have the pattern books from 8-10 years ago! It makes my blood boil and I have reported or complained when ever appropriate.
The key is to make sure we let people know it is not ok to steal other people's artwork. I have had people ask me to share my digital files and I never do it. I politely inform them how I feel about sharing digis, direct them to the site to purchase their own and go on my merry way.

Mo's site is back up. check it out and provide your support.

i understand that many images (not just digital) are "stolen", however, it seems the digital world makes it easier for these thieves - they're harder to catch in cyber space.

I'm in! I've added the button to my blog, and have asked Mo to include us in the group of companies/artists that is taking a stand.

I'm totally in! I talked about this a few months ago and it is still very upsetting what lengths people will go to.

I struggle with my craft budget and like everyone else I want lots of choices to, but I can't afford it. Digital stamps have made all the difference for me and if artists decide to stop offering their designs I don't know what I'd do.

There are specific companies I still but rubber and clear stamps from but the first thing I do is check my favorite digital sites when I want somehting new. (Mo's site is at the top of that list)

Way to go Mo,
Diana
