Default SU My Digital Studio

Does anyone use this? How easy is it to print cards on 8.5x11 paper?

It's VERY easy!!!! You will have to save your project as a jpeg file on your computer. But, I now do all my flyers in My Digital Studio.

No...haven't played enough with that to figure out how my printer will handle that. But, I did read that if you save it as a jpeg, then you can import it to a Word document and print 2 to a sheet. I haven't tried it, as I said, but...sounds simple enough.

I printed my Christmas cards this past christmas. I also had stampin up print some. Their quality was better than my Epson, but the ones I printed were pretty good. Here is the outside and the inside of the card.

Wow, Beth! What a nice card! Thanks for the info.

I think it's strange that you would have to go through all that to print your cards. Not that's it's hard to do, but it seems like these companies are getty very greedy by making the software this way. They are definatly trying to get people to use their printing service, and not designing the software with the customer in mind. I think I'll just use my word prosesssing program.

Stampin up's My Digital Studio is very user friendly, it's really not difficult to get it to do what you want it to do. I only did a print order through SU because I was curious as to how their printer matter would differ from mine. I'm currently working on calendars to give as Christmas gifts for co-wokers. I will again have a few printed through Stampin up, because their quality is super. But the majority I will have Staples print and bind, for a fraction of the SU price. There are always options.

I have a colour laser printer and printed out my own MDS cards. They look good, but I found that the colours were a little off, so hybrid cards didn't really look perfect. However, the ones that I ordered through SU were a little nicer as the colours were truer.

I print my own cards from MDS.

Things i've noticed:

If you print on whisper white cardstock, the colours will be slightly different and the image not quite as crisp. (I have a canon inkjet).

I make sure to select high quality print and VIVID colour in my printer settings.

If you print on a glossy, thick, high quality PHOTO PAPER, the image looks AMAZING. In my opinion even better than what I received from the professional print service (although their cardstock was very thick and heavy!..very nice). But, you don't always want a glossy card...

I've printed on canon lighter weight photo paper and the images come out very close to true, including the colours. Of course this is too light weight to fold into a card so you would need to mount it onto a card base. Which actually 'kicks it up a notch' in my opinion because it is an extra layer.

In short, I love MDS. It is easy...it works well with my home printer and i'm completely satisfied.

Let me know if you do a comparison of printing on cardstock to photopaper with your printer!

D.

I love my MDS I use it more than I thought I would. At Christmas time I did the 6x6 flip calendars for the grandparents, and also a wall calendar. The wall calendars I had printed at Office Max. I'm sure SU's calendars would have been stunning, but this worked fine. For the 6x6 I did the pages in 8x8 in MDS, saved as Jpegs and resized them to 6x6 in adobe and them printed at Costco. The colors weren't quite as true-but for the project I was doing they were fine.

My next project is my daughters Graduation Open House invitations. I'm working on those today.

I tried it again, I didn't choose VIVID before, and now they look fabulous. Thanks for the tip D!

I can't find a lot of the current core colors, like my favorite - Sage Shadow. Is everyone seeing this? I thought we got the complete color palette with this software, but I don't see quite a few of the basics from the four color families.

We need these since we can't buy them from SU after May 31.

They are all there, if you look at background colours or change a stamp colour (the ink colour)...all four colour families are there, plus neutrals, plus incolours, plus some of the past ones (RHR, Tangerine etc).

Sage shadow would be the top row, fifth box from the left.

Hope that helps!

Yes, thanks, it does help a lot. I'd seen this grid but there were no color names. The Background Papers (Card Stock & Designer Series Paper) use the SU names of the colors, but many core colors are missing.

I was so hoping to print my own papers to replace those that are being retired at the end of the month. Not the best solution, but one that had been suggested in a thread about the Color Renovation. The Soft Flower DSP is lovely and I wanted to print it in Sage Shadow, my favorite color, probably unavailable by now from SU.

Funny, I never realized when I bought the software that it didn't have all of the papers in all of the colors.

There is also a color match tool in MDS so if you wanted a color to match something in a photo, it can be done.

If you are interested I have a number of MDS tutorials on my blog. The first ones are more basic about features of the program. Later ones get into extra tips and tricks I have discovered while playing around. The tutorials can be found HERE

I have added some new tutorials again.

1. How to use MDS to resize and print perfectly sized photos for your projects:

2. How to make a "Filmstrip" card.

SU does 12 x 12, Staples also does 12 x 12. All the pricing info is on the SU website. Go to the products tab then Digital Stamping then Pricing.

thanks but i must be missing something or that is only a demonstrator view. I see products but I don't see printing cost anywhere. it may also be because it defaults to my demonstrators su site.
