Smile I'm a digi addict....

I need to go cold turkey, or at least cut WAY back! So hard to do with all the beautiful and awesome free digis. My computer is not liking all my digi collecting; I put tons of them on cd, but computer still hates it when I save them. Going to keep sites of coloring pages in favorites, so I can access them when I need an image. I guess I could just get really, really picky and only keep the digis I know without a doubt I will use. So hard to do when you're an addict! LOL!
I get so fixated sometimes. If I'm not buying, I'm collecting in another way. At least that's what my hubby tells me.
Am I good company; are there other digi addicts out there?

I was a digi addict before they were called digi stamps. I started off with digital scrapbooking and its progressed from there. I have a dedicated 500gb external hard drive that is about 80% full now with all my digital downloads (mostly digi papers and digi stamps). Plus I have about another 25 DVDs of stuff.

That's really neat! I wouldn't have a clue on how to do that. Do they still have to temporarily go to your regular harddrive before they get transferred?
I probably have enough already to last for years! I store them for a short time on the computer and then transfer to cds. I make an index printout of all of them, and keep in a large notebook, so I have a record of what is on each cd, and who the artist is. Part of the problem is I have a bunch I just haven't been able to bring myself to delete from the computer, even though I have them on cds. The ones I think I might access in the near future I save on the computer. Probably my best bet would be to print a bunch of them out ahead of time, and save them for when I actually want to make the card etc.., so I can feel free to delete them. I have a fair amount of digis already printed out and waiting to be colored from the past. I may do that when I get caught up on some things and have a little free time. (DARE To Dream! LOL!)
Thanks for telling me how you store yours! Glad I am not the only addict!

With an EHD (external hard drive) you don't need to save to your computer hard drive - you can save them straight to the EHD. I do make a backup of my EHD once a month just in case it fails and as I get time, I move enough files to fill a DVD just so I can keep downloading more.

I use Georgia Pacific white cardstock that I get from Walmart. It is about 5dollars for 150 sheets. I used this video to help me learn how to download images.

This site post lots of free digi stamps by generous and talented digi designers. Free Digital Stamps
These are my favorites; although there are many more I like. Sliekje's Digi Stamps is my absolute favorite. I also like Pink Cat Studio. I like tons of them!
Meljen's Designs
Create With TLC
Sliekje's Digi Stamps
Coloring Page Tuesdays by Elizabeth Dulemba
Little Scraps of Heaven
Cuddly Buddly
Graphics Fairy
Many people who have problems with smearing of the ink when coloring, print their digis out in "draft or photo" settings on the printer, but use cardstock.
When saving digis, my favorite is in PNG, because they have no background, so you can overlap images. Hope that helps; if I think of any more tips, I'll post them. Have fun!

I now store my digis on a flash drive. It's an inexpensive way to store them in a small space, yet it's easy to keep track of them. I have them divided into categories for easy searching. I'll just keep adding to my collection, because you never have to run out of room.

With a flash drive, can you save the zip file or image directly to the flash drive without even putting it on the hard drive of your computer? Hadn't considered that; maybe that is what I need to try.
Sorry Ladycne, I just cannot picture what your'e describing to me. I have a hard time visualising things, and I guess I'm not sure of what type of program you are talking about. Could you tell me more about it?
Thanks for your responses. So appreciated!

I absolutely love digi's. My DH just gave me Christmas money early and it was spent in a matter of minutes. I joined Dustin Pikes 2012 Membership so I get his digi's all year, including this November and December. I'm addicted to Free Digital Stamps I have to check that every day. Love Bugaboo, Meljen, Cat's Pajamas, Sweet N' Sassy OMG... I love Cocoa the Mouse.

I like to make hybrid cards using digi's and rubber stamps. My friends tell me I'm nuts that digi's aren't stamping. Sniff.. sniff...

And HEY... I'm hostessing a digi card swap. Check out my link below.

I love the free stamps site also. I like to use all different products on my cards. I like variety.
I don't know if digis are really stamping, but I enjoy them just the same. I like Meljens images, TLC, Sliekjeststamps, Cuddly Buddly, Pink Cat Studio; more than I could even list. I have'nt checked out Sweet N Sassy.

I've become addicted to digi stamps too! I have started saving so many, now I just need more time to make cards with them. I bought a few, then I found a great site with free vintage digi stamps and images. Sometimes, there are jpg and png types. I also like the grafic fairy too for vintage images.

I'm addictied also, but, more selective now. Once you get so many it's hard to remember what image was with what company. Even though I backup TWO usb when purchasing them, (because nothing is fail proof) I have had once crack on the sides, when putting it into tower jack. I don't like my memory being used on the hard drive for stamping.
I am now in the process of indexing my digi images, to minature size for, a smaller binder viewing to find. Overwhelming, but, now, I am getting a system.

I've slowed down on my digi collecting; partly out of necessity and partly by choice. While making cards to sell for a charity, I am being very careful to make sure the company or site I am using's angel policy allows for homemade cards with their images. Some are fine with you selling items that are finished homemade works as long as you display their name clearly on something included with the card/work, which I intend to do. But they all have their own policies, so I read each one. That being said, I am collecting more of those type images. I've also saved some embroidery images that are public domain and copyright free, as well as those type of coloring page images. Saving images slows my computer down, so I am being pickier. Plus, I have so many saved now, that I have to really be tempted as of late to save them. So thankful to the artists that share their talents! I have gotten some free and have bought some awesome images! Love all the variety; so many talented people out there!

I'm getting back into stamping, and I've been looking at lots of digi stamps. I've also fixed my own digi stamp blog, since the code was all messed up. I was so busy with Christmas orders for my jewelry, I'm burned out, so getting back into stamping will be a nice break!! I just need to ship my kids off someplace so I have time
I'll have to review the "how to" part, since I bought a new computer and printer. I'm not sure if my new printer will work.

Carolyn, Thank you so much for the info about the flash drives. I guess part of the change in attitude lately is also that I get overwhelmed when I have too much. I have lots of images saved, and still save the ones I adore.
Rosers, I don't kids, but I have to work around my cats. They love to sit in the middle of my desk on my stuff, while I am trying to work. It's like they are telling me "Hey! I demand your full attention, but only when I say so!" They are stinkers!

I guess digi stamps aren't 'stamping' but they are so flexible I prefer them for coloured images.

Just used Mo Manning's Mr Fixit for an anniversary card for DH. You should have heard the laugh. He couldn't believe I could find a handyman stamp. If I'd had to buy a rubber stamp I couldn't have. And for the one card, I'd never have justified buying it.

So, while I don't have a lot of digis yet, I can see them breeding quite quickly.

Just fluttered off to look at that Free Vintage Stamps site. "BOOKMARK"!

Love those roses and vases and labels and...

I'm thinking I'm going to have to learn how to do a print and cut on my cutting machine really soon.

I'm a digital addict as well. My favorite freebie site is Elizabeth O Dulemba's coloring pages. She's an author as well as artist and puts her digi's up as free coloring pages. Actually she's going to use one of my cards in her next digital newsletter. This will be the third time she's used one of my cards. She's just so talented and so sweet.

I keep mine on a jump drive as well. It's just easier that way.

I'm a digi addict too! I nearly always use digi stamps now for my projects. Rubber and clear stamps have gotten so expensive, especially if they're sold as sets. More often than not there are only some stamps in a set I like so I won't buy the set, I can't justify the expense. I love that I can size digis to whatever size I need and sometimes this makes coloring an image easier - I can make the image bigger which makes it easier to color.

I have a few flash drives which helps me to keep my digis organized; I have them organized by category.

The only problem with some free digis I've seen offered is when they aren't produced at high resolution. For me, if an image isn't produced at least at 300 dpi they aren't usable.
