Default DGC013 01.20.09 (converting BG page to overlay)

The challenge is to take a background page and use it as an overlay. I'll show you how. I think this is a great technique and I plan on using this A LOT!

Here's mine: //www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1200579&cat=7558&cat=7558

The orginal BG pages are below. I thought it might help to see what they started as, and then look at the example and see how they turned out.

Here are the PSE directions:

1. open a file, add a solid colour BG page and then add your picture.
2. open a BG page with a dense pattern - words work great!
3. make sure the patterned paper is the top layer in your file and make sure it is highlighted.
4. remove the colour from it (In PSE: enhance>adjust colour>remove colour)
5. make sure that the pattern that you want to see is white. If it is in reverse, then reverse your colours (in PSE: Filter>adjustments>invert)
6. the pattern should now be white and the background should be black. Enhance the difference (in PSE: Enhance>Adjust Lighting>brightness/ contrast) and slide the marker for contrast so that the blacks and whites are more dramatic
7. Now, I don't know what to call this, but you want to remove all the black and leave only the white (in PSE: make sure the correct layer is targeted, then go to the box that has the blending mode at the top of the layer's palette. Choose `screen')
8. Adjust the opacity until you like the overlay.
9. Remove the pattern from over the faces in the picture (in PSE: choose your lasso, change the feathering to a large number, like 100, and then draw a rough circle around the faces. Click OK).

Have Fun!!!

Oh boy, I am definitely going to try this one. I love these challenges!

Hey everyone--make sure you answer the SCS survey and tell them you'd like to see these digi-challenges put in with the other daily challenges and on the home page, etc. Let 'em know we want to see digi have its own place on SCS!!

I am having a hard time getting my overlay to be the same size as my page. Do you have any other suggestions? Steps 7 & 8 are a little confusing...

Okay.... Here is my page! I downloaded PSE and started playing with it. It took me most of the evening to complete my page, but it is finished. It still needed lots of work but I did learn how to do the overlay which was the main part of the challenge. It was hard but it was fun and I would try it again sometime.

Merry Digi Christmas
