SEPT. 2012-Task 2-DIGISCRAP PROGRESSIVE CHALLENGE (DGSCPR004Task2)
FOREWORD: In remembrance of 9/11, a day we will never forget, and in honor of all the innocent people who died eleven years ago and their families, I post a quote by Deepak Chopra, M.D., below. I thought that we, as scrappers – a group of people who deeply cherish life and have a strong desire to document it — could relate to Dr. Chopra’s sentiments. Let us count our blessings. God bless America. Wendy B.
"For me and my family personally, September 11 was a reminder that life is fleeting, impermanent, and uncertain. Therefore, we must make use of every moment and nurture it with affection, tenderness, beauty, creativity, and laughter." -Deepak Chopra, M.D.
Don’t know what a Progressive Challenge is? Go here to learn.
PLEASE NOTE! Although this is in the digiscrap threads, anyone is welcome to play--whether they're a digi, paper or hybrid scrapper. Just as the digiscrappers sometimes have to change up the instructions a little to fit their digi needs when doing a traditional challenge, the "traditional" scrappers might have to improvise on some of the digi techniques. It should make things interesting!
PROGRESSIVE CHALLENGE #4 – TASK 2 (SEPT. 2012)
1. Hexagons are in! Add hexagons to your page! You can add many or just a few. They can all be the same color or pattern, or you can mix them up. You could even use a chicken wire design. Just add hexagons to your page!
--------------
Where do you find hexagons?
In addition to digi kits, there are many places to find hexagon shapes, papers and templates online. Here are a few suggestions for the purposes of this challenge. (If anyone has other suggestions, feel free to post them in this thread! Questions are welcome too!)
Photoshop and Photoshop Elements users can create hexagons by selecting that shape within the Polygon Tool selections in Shapes on the toolbar. (In default mode the Shapes icon looks like a rectangle. Right click on that and it will give you a drop down menu where you’ll see the polygon tool.)
If you don’t already own the punch, MDS users can download a hexagon punch for $.95 (#130924). This must be done through an online Stampin’ Up demonstrator of your choice. Be sure to check your files to confirm you don’t already have it in a collection.
Here is the link: Punches - Digital Downloads by Stampin' Up!
----------------
2. Add Horizontal Strips. Place a strip (1”–1½”) horizontally behind the lower edge of the photo. Let it extend almost the full width of the page. Add two or three more horizontal strips, layering them over and/or under the photo and each other. (These strips can be torn paper, scalloped border pieces, fabric or fiber, ribbon, string, etc.) You may anchor them with brads or other fasteners if you wish.
That’s it for today. Hope to see your creations in the gallery soon. Can’t wait to see what you’ve done!
NOW UPLOAD:
- Remember to first save your page in its original version to maintain your layers, so you'll be able to make changes/additions in Task 2.
- Save your page for the web as a .jpg (600x600 or less) & upload to the Challenge 4-Task 2 Gallery by adding the keyword DGSCPR004Task2 when you upload. Please also post a link to this week’s work in this thread.

I try to do mine before I look at everybody else's ... since this is my creative challenge in my life right now.
Now that I've seen the pages so far ... I want to go back and start mine over again! You are all so talented!
I'm learning something about my scrapbooking ... in digital, I stick to keeping things horizontal or vertical ... not so good at angles ... on paper I'm much more willing to put things on an angle (maybe because sometimes they end up that way?)
Have to keep this in mind for future pages.

gail,
in life i feel like i am always leaning a little left of center, so i guess i do better at angles. i maybe have ocd, because when i have to have something lined up on a page, i want it LINED UP! not a fraction of an inch off or it bugs the daylights out of me. getting mats just perfect on cards, tables centered on word documents, etc. i stress too much over those kinds of things. after all these years i finally found the align button on photoshop elements and i feel like i have been given the best gift!

It's interesting how we all do things differently, often for a variety of reasons--creativity, experience level, personal quirks! It's what makes the world go 'round! The funny thing is, we often assume someone else has more "talent" when it's really just a personal quirk that makes their work go in the direction it does!
I love to see all the different "takes" people have on the challenges.
Gail, I think it's the most challenging when you don't look at other peoples' stuff first. That way you start with a clean slate.
Lori, the align buttons are definitely a blessing!

I joined in with this in August for the first time. Just home after a two week holiday and have caught up with the September Progressive. Am thoroughly enjoying these challenges.
