Default Ink Smearing

I am new to digital stamping. I use water color pencils the most. How does everyone keep the ink from the printer from smearing when working with it?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Rebecca

I was thinking about this too, I did ask before and apparently a laser printer stops this. Or someone else suggested a blast from a heat gun.

I spray the cardstock (after printing) with a clear sealant. I have an inkjet printer and the ink dries too fast to emboss, and smears even with using a heat gun or letting it sit for a few days (the other common suggestion). I found mine in Walmart on the same shelf as the ModPodge, if that helps - I noticed different brands in different stores. Just check the label for uses - mine does list use on paper as well as ceramics, etc.
ETA: it's only about $4 Canadian for the spray, and mine has lasted 6 months so far, with loads of use, so it's a fairly economical solution

I've only done it a couple of times, but I used a heat gun on it and it seemed to "set" the ink so I could used markers on it. Good luck

Ive just managed to make a card (in my gallery now) with the digi stamps.

I printed them out with a normal canon ink jet printer and blasted each image for a bit with the heat gun and I was able to water colour them fine

I use a workable fixative. A workable fixative is formulated so that you can add another medium on top. The brand I'm using is Prismacolor, but you can get fixatives at any art supply store. I print and then lightly spray and then watercolour.
