Hey, Kristin! Sorry I couldn't be here for ya' yesterday - but it looks like you didn't need me

a) Michelle, thanks for the explanation
b) I'm so glad this isn't readily obvious to everyone else too!
c) SO glad it's still working for you, CK!

Same question, different window: HOW do I get templates into CM+??? I see that I could select from templates, I found freebie templates online, but My Stuff doesn't have a template option.......??? Suggestion?

This drives me crazy too. I'd rather they just put 26 letters each, but I don't make them so I have no idea how that part of it works. From what someone else told me all you have to do is use the magic wand tool and cut out the letters you want. It seems like a lot of work to me, I usually just use fonts I found on www.dafont.com and they are awesome... And FREE!!

Good point.......yes, cutting each letter is beyond my realm of patience! How do you get the free fonts to magically appear in your fonts window? I can get free ones into my computer, but now sure how to make them add to my fonts list??? See, I really need to take a programmer coars!

Another question: WHY did the list I put into "My Stuff" yesterday not appear in there today? Do we need to put it into "My Stuff" each new time we open CM+??

Getting fonts is a little bit easier than kits and stuff. First go to www.dafont.com. You can spend hours there but when you find one you like click on the 'download' button on the right hand side. click 'save', make sure you are saving in onto your deskop so it's easy to find it later.
Now it's zipped and on your desktop.
I downloaded "Mom's Typewritter".
Go ahead and upzip it onto your desktop. Usually you'll get more than one icon that opens up. One is the actual font and the other is the user agreement.
Now go to the bottom left of your desktop screen and click on the "Windows" logo there then click on "control panel". My usually pops up as a half screen so you can still see the desktop. Do not maximize it to full screen.
You can see in your control panel a file called, "fonts".
Now put your mouse on the opened font file. It will have a gray T and a blue T on it. Drag that onto the FONT file in your contol panel and let go.
My computer usually asks me if I want to continue or not. Just click yes.

Once it is added to your font file in your control panel it is automatically installed in your other programs too, like Word and your CM software!

It really is easy and addicting!!

Good luck.

Oh, now you can delete your unzipped files and put your zipped file into your digital s'booking folder just in case your puter ever crashes. Bad news!!

No, that's not normal at all, You should definitely call tech about that (or email?).

I haven't tried but I have a few 'predone' pages - I just brought them in as 'paper' and added photos on top. I was wondering the same thing about templates.

Michelle, I went to dafonts.com and it sent me to a few index links until I no longer knew if I was in "free fonts" or not......where exactly do you go to download free fonts? AND, do they have to say "True type fonts" to work??

Ugh.

Once you "flatten" you can never ever go back and undo or edit again.

Learned that the crappy, hard way.

Ugh.

Here I go to click my details back into reality.

Ugh.

Groan.

Grumble.

At least it wasn't the last piece of cardstock, eh!

Uh oh! I knew that, I wish I had mentioned it to you before. Use "group/ungroup" until you're SURE! But, it's a good idea to flatten before you upload for printing; makes it faster to upload.

Hmmmm. I just go to www.dafont.com and in the center right there is a box surrounded in red. All of the different styles are listed there. So you want "Cartoon" under "Fancy". Just click on it and over to the right you'll see the "download box". You just click that to start the download.

Is that not what you are seeing?

"Make Normal"

Okay......super handy if you scrap in non-12x12!

Say you have a frame, and you want to use it around the edge of your 8x10 page. You "make background" with that frame. Then unlock, highlight, and right click to "make normal". Next, "move forward" and you can now set a totally different paper as the background with your frame perfectly framing the entire page! Ta da!!!!!! I'm so happy to have figured this out!!!!!!!

[happy dancing to the max]

I'm a newb as well so no tips or tricks really yet...

I would suggest getting an external hard drive if you are working on a laptop..I quickly ate up all my RAM and had to get a big external drive. I offloaded all my stuff and now my laptop is happy again!!

I actually just finished my son's first day of school page...he went back this morning for 1st grade..

Great page, Shell!

Just curious, all of a sudden it takes forEvah to load up the papers when I click from group to group. Is this a sign of the gobbled up RAM of which you speak? Also, if you're using an EHD, do you store 'all' of your packages there, and if so how do you access them? (not a technically inclined person here, just got me first laptop!)

TIA!!

Yes that is your RAM getting eaten up. Here's what I did...

I have a laptop with a dual hard drive. This means I have both a C: drive and a D: drive on my computer. The C: drive holds all my normal day to day stuff..the D: drive has just my CM software and zipped kits that need to be put on my EHD.

I loaded all my page kits onto the EHD as well as my completed pages and photos. I do have the page kits loaded into the CM software...so I'm sure that I'm duplicating something somewhere...but since I've offloaded a bunch of stuff onto the EHD things run much much better now...

First, did you unzip your file onto your desktop? If not, do that. Now it's open and it's on your desktop. Sometimes it'll open up into a file, and sometimes it'll open up into whatever it is you got and it's just sitting there on your desktop. (Like if it has 3 patterned papers then you'll see each patterned paper right there).

If you put a bunch of downloaded stuff into a folder on your desktop then open up the folder and drag one zipped file back onto your desktop. This way you don't get confused, you know what you are working with.
Now open up your CM software
I just opened up something and it 'unzipped' into a separate file onto my desktop.
In my CM software I click on 'My Stuff' then 'File' then 'Add Collection'. Here is where you are going to name it. Use the same name the designer used. Now it is one of the collections you have listed on the left. Make sure that the one you are downloading is highlighted.
Click on 'Content' then 'Add paper' or 'Add embellishment' (whichever one you want.)
A screen will pop up with a bunch of files for you to search through to find the one you want to upload. Since I upzipped that file onto my desktop already it is right there. If it isn't just get to the desktop section how you normally would do it. Once I click on the paper or kit that I want to add to CM then you can see them on the right side of the screen. Either highlight the ones you want or just click 'Get all Papers'.

That's it! They will appear and you can use them right away.

I hope that answers your questioins!!
Thanks so much!! It worked for me too!

I'll add this 2cents worth: I have started putting the pic of the complete kit at the start of my "add embellishment" or "add paper" selections.....that way when I'm IN SB+ and scrolling through papers or embellies, the full kit flashes first and saves my scrolling finger and eyes from having to sort through all the individual pieces. hth

Okay, and SO HAPPY that I typed this tidbit in here as I had totally forgotten I ever figured it out! lol

No blog, but some of my digi pages are in my gallery. I'm having 'puter issues tonight, but I'll try and post some links tomorrow.

Woot, woot from another (originally) Saskatchewanian girl over here, btw!!

Michelle, I'm thinking about ordering the CM software and was surfing through this thread. You are an awesome teacher!!! How easy to download fonts. You never know what you'll learn on SCS. Anyway, thanks so much.

Bad news!!

I've been looking at this software myself. So you are saying that you can DL non CM stuff into to use? I was put off by the idea that I'd get nickel and dimed on papers and stuff when there's freebies out there, ya know?

Do you feel like it is better/easier/more creative than the free drag n drop online programs such as shutterfly, hp, etc...and I've just not got the patience to really learn PSElements. Thanks, just trying to decide if the free ones are sufficient or if CM one is just that much easier, yet flexible.

WAY yes. I've never had the patience for the Kodak/Shutterfly/drug-store online photo books. My pictures take forever to get IN there, they get lost, I can never fit them all in the way I want, the templates drive me crazy... I've never been able to complete one - I haven't had the patience.

I tried pse, but I couldn't figure it out. I'm sure if I took a class or spent a few months at it I'd get it, but it was so expensive that by the time my free trial ran out I was ok letting it go. I found the CM SBC+ well priced, super easy to use (almost self-explanitory) and yet I'm finding more and more creative/advanced options. The for-purchase kits are cheap and flexible, there are TONS of freebies (including page layouts, which I find most useful) and I can use almost any freebie or purchased digi bits out there.

The notable exception is "brushes" - I actually am not too clear on what they are, but I haven't figured out a way to use them in SBC+ Some people swear they are the best digi-thing since sliced bread, but I don't miss them yet.
