LOL - sounds yummy! We are having BBQ farmer sausage, garlic mashed potatoes, but my veggies are still up in the air, maybe peas or corn. No dessert here, DH doesn't like it!

Salad sounds good, but I don't think I could hold it with the other stuff....

Mennonite=German in Canada too? If so, I'm sure I would love it, but I would want the yummy red cabbage with it too. I gotta get to the German restaurant!

This is the double batch like one would take to a pot luck to feed say 30 people (sorry) I actually did a half batch tonight....you need an ounce scale to do a half batch.....
If you feel a tightness in your chest as you read this, don't worry--that's just your arteries clogging...I only make this about once a year...it is DH's Valentine's day batch
White Chocolate Bread Pudding from Brennans Palace Cafe in New Orleans, Louisiana
(Double batch)
Pudding Sauce
6 c heavy whipping cream 16 oz white chocolate chips
20 oz white chocolate chips (2 pkgs) 2/3 c heavy cream
2 c milk
1 c sugar or
4 whole eggs
15 egg yolks (20 oz white chocolate chips &
2 loaves French bread, sliced inch thick 3/4 c cream)
Pudding
Heat cream in a large pot. Do not boil. Add white chocolate and remove from heat when melted.
In a double boiler over barely simmering water, beat the milk, sugar, eggs, and egg yolks together, and heat until warm.
Blend the egg mixture into the chocolate/cream mixture.
Place bread slices into two casserole dishes. Pour half of the pudding over the bread and allow it to soak in for 30 minutes. Next, pour the remaining half of the pudding over the bread.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 275 F for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Sauce
In a double boiler over barely simmering water, melt the chocolate, stirring until smooth.
Remove from heat and mix in the heavy cream. Keep warm. Can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for reheating. (In a double boiler)

I think my great grandfather was Bavarian (that is low German isn't it?), but I really have no proof....he used to cuss in German according to my aunts and uncles. If so, I must have inherited the taste for the food (well not saurkraut) from him because the rest of my family is plain old boring English except for a wee tiny bit of Cherokee.
