So what do you think of the new title for the thread girls? Surely Aussie newbies can't miss it. LOL

KoffeeKat 11-10-2011 11:41 PM

Way more creative than I would have been Theresa.

laurenscraft 11-11-2011 12:35 AM

Way creative all right!!! I love the title, Theresa!!

Diamondz 11-11-2011 12:42 AM

I missed it...lol. I found this thread by the link in the old one.

Haven't done any crafting this week, unless coming up with new low carb recipes count?

Had my follow up with the surgeon this week, he is happy and said I can go back to normal again.

Next week I start my new job, and a new medication. I'll be exhausted next weekend.

Misstreez 11-11-2011 01:39 AM

Hi girls! *big waves*

I was aiming for something that would be instantly recognized as Australian, and inviting.

I've had my head stuck in the crafting room for weeks and I've missed a lot of news I think. Did you have surgery Kath? If you an go back to normal, that must be good news. I always fret when I start a new job too. You'll be fine.

Misstreez 11-11-2011 02:18 AM

Lauren, you mentioned something in the previous thread about offering your doodles up for free digi stamps. I don't use digi myself, but these are getting more and more popular as time goes by. I reckon go for it. You strike me as a good networker and that in itself is a good skill for cyber attention.

Do you use any of the images yourself? One of my blogging buddies is involved with a digi stamp online shop. They appear to be having some success with this.

Paper Fashions, Etc.

Jan R 11-11-2011 02:30 AM

Talking about doodles and digi stamping has anyone seen the new thing called stamptangles? There is also such a thing as a Zentangle too! LOL. They would be good for people who like to doodle. Michelle Zindorf has had a couple tutorials for them lately. Can't really decide whether I like them or not.

Diamondz 11-11-2011 02:37 AM

I had my gallbladder out last month Theresa. Its gone so fast.

SydneyDeb 11-11-2011 02:32 PM

Great name love it. Sitting in the hairdresser browsing Splitcoast gotta love technology lol

Off too buy sheer red ribbon to finish off a set of cards then have to do my besties cards.

Diamondz 11-11-2011 02:52 PM

Stamptangles/zentangles, not my thing. I've never been much of a doodler.

laurenscraft 11-11-2011 03:08 PM

Kath, good luck with the new job, you will be great!!

Jan I have not seen the new one, but have seen the Zentangles, it is very interesting and great for anyone who does not think they have confidence in drawing/doodling.

I have been drawing on and off for many years, mainly buildings and scenes, pen and ink. Published and won prize from the SMH in the early 70's for a series of drawings on the streets of Paddington and the Cross (my only claim to fame, shortlived and very passing). So I have many sketchbooks in the type of image that is dearest to my heart and have not until recently thought about utilizing them as stamps. Not all I would share for free. Also have many many doodles.

The thing I have found talking to other bloggers is that when there is a digi on offer, regardless of whether it is good or not, the traffic goes through the roof....

I have not yet used any myself, but I drew a tiger for a friend the other day and scanned to use as a digi in jpg format.

You can be certain I will drop a link here to anything I offer.

I will be playing in the craft room today (yes I do that everyday), a couple of swaps to finish up and some christmas presents to get ready to post out. Have fun girls.

DottyTeapot 11-11-2011 05:05 PM

Love the new thread name- very clever!

I've finally got a chance to get all my stamping stuff out again today, and have just popped in to check out the SU galleries for inspiration. Just doing some more christmas cards, and starting a 21st card for my SIL.

Owning/operating a retail shop as well as working in seperate retail job= not a lot of spare time until xmas :( I've even missed the last two TPT challenges. Oh well, come January I'll have plenty of spare time LOL

Had my SU party and scored some great goodies, a few new sets, inks and punches, and am very excited to try them out!

Hope everyone is well. Congrats on the new job Diamondz!!!

Diamondz 11-11-2011 05:37 PM

Thanks girls. I realised last night that as my new job is for a retailer, I've got bucklies of getting the week between christmas and new years off. Ah well. I might be able to start replacing some of my crappy furniture now.

Misstreez 11-12-2011 12:20 AM

Girls just rushing in before I rush off again.

I'll be making up all the work time lost during the week coz we'll be working tomorrow. :) And the penalty rates will take the sting out of my fouled up weekend.

I've just zipped thru my VSN challenge gallery and the other VSN galleries. Love the inspiration. Anyone wanna guess which was THE most used set for nearly all the challenges. Lovely As A Tree. I got some great ideas for getting that set out again.

I'm off to the farm now for the evening and I'll hopefull catch you all in the morning before I head off again.

SydneyDeb 11-13-2011 01:16 PM

Huh?? Happy Monday??

I've totally lost track of what day it is since last Thursday. I don't know whether I'm Authur or Martha. :(

Jan R 11-14-2011 04:16 AM

Theresa, let's hope it's Martha! LOL.

DottyTeapot 11-14-2011 01:02 PM

Hi Girls,

Quick question...what do you ladies use to "colour in" with? Eg. I have the SU "Faith in nature" set, would like to stamp the pear outline/words in early espresso, then shade the pear in green, without smudging/dulling/running the ink etc, and I have no idea what to use? Any pointers, or can anyone point me to any threads/sections on here where that topic is covered?

Thanks :D

Jasmum 11-14-2011 02:17 PM

Hi ladies! Love the new thread title. Been MIA for a while, my computer died. Seems like everyone has been very busy! Will hopefully be able to be a bit more involved now with challenges etc as I have a computer that won't keep crashing!
Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday.

Jan R 11-14-2011 03:25 PM

Dotty, I guess the ink colours you are talking about are S.U.? I don't use S.U. inks if I am going to colour a stamp. I guess though that their markers are OK to use with their stamps, but I don't know. If I am colouring with my Prisma pencils I use Stazon ink and if colouring with Copic markers I use Memento. Someone who uses more S.U. may be able to help more.

KoffeeKat 11-14-2011 05:29 PM

Like Jan, I'm not a SU user. I'm far to impulsive to limit myself to one brand that I have to wait for!

I use Stazon ink and Inktense pencils and sometimes whatever else I can get my hands on, not excluding my 9 year old's textas and crayons, acrylic paint, gel pens, you name it.

I don't worry about archival/acid free on cards (unlike my scrapbooking) because most people won't keep them forever.

If you have embossing powder but no 'waterproof' ink, then emboss your image before colouring to stop it smudging.

SydneyDeb 11-14-2011 06:40 PM

I love the SU stuff but I do wish you could buy the stamps individually. I love the sets but they alwasy have some baby stamps in them so are of no use to me at all so it turns me right off the whole set.

I love too many brands to limit myself it just one, cute animal stamps always do it for me. Adore Penny Black my favourite company of all.

Maria Giulia 11-14-2011 07:10 PM

Great new name for the forum, I found it via the old page.

I've got monthly ATC card coming end of this week 'Spring Racing Carnival' is the subject - can't seem to get my thinking cap on for this one.
Actually went to Oaks Day races, with my friend from Torquay, had a great time except weather was bit cool around 16 deg.

My friend I do cards with is going to be a Stampin Up Rep, she had first class last week with 5 attending, it went off quiet well. I helped her out earlier in the week to decide on what card she get the class to make, and cut up pieces ready to go.
I know realise how much work and time is put into holding card classes and organisation before hand.

cheers have a good day.

Jan R 11-15-2011 12:12 AM

I agree with Deb re S.U. sets. In the "Lovely as a Tree" set I badly want, there is only two of the stamps I would use, and it's around the $50 dollar price! S.U. are really great quality though.

DottyTeapot 11-15-2011 01:18 PM

Thanks Jan R and KoffeeKat, that gave me a couple of ideas to try! :D

I love the SU stuff but I do wish you could buy the stamps individually
I agree as well. Some of the stamps I really want are in sets of 8 etc, and in some cases I wouldn't even use the other 7 at all, so can't justify the price/waste :(

Jan R 11-15-2011 04:11 PM

Just an I.T. question. How do you girls resize your photos for uploading? I often try to upload a photo, am then told it's too big and then I mostly just give up because I don't remember how it did it last time! LOL.

KoffeeKat 11-15-2011 04:49 PM

I have a share button on Photoshop that lets me resize for web very easily. To do the same in Windows Photo Gallery, you have to pretend you are e-mailing the photo then save the attachment. I'm sure there must be an easier way.

Jan R 11-15-2011 05:57 PM

2 Attachment(s)
I had never tried to use Photoshop for resizing. I couldn't see any "share" button but managed to go into resize from the help section, so hopefully it has worked. I remember once I emailed a couple of photos to myself with Picasa and resized them that way! LOL. Anyway I will use Photoshop in future. These are another couple of Xmas cards. The pointsettia one I have made quite a few of and the Magnolia one is one I did for my card club. We were given two sheets of paper and the red ribbon and had to do a Xmas card. The background paper has the music to Silient Night on it.

Misstreez 11-16-2011 03:01 AM

Hi girls. i feel like I'm way out of the loop. But the good news is I know I'm a Martha, and not an Arthur, LOL.

Monday was a huge day with my DD's Formal. Had a girly day watching the girls get thier hair and make up done. Then my DD had a crisis of confidence which required some careful handling. Then the trip down to Dreamworld, Gold Coast, where the event was held. I was exhausted when I got home. But I was so proud of my DD, and my DS for his brotherly support of his sister on her special day. I cried when I got home and saw the pics of them together.

So by the time I rock up for work on Tues I'm pretty run down, only to endure one of the hottest days, standing out in the sun with not a skerick of shade. I came very close to being very sick. Luckily today was better, and I was able to bounce back. Something tells me we're in for a scorcher this summer.

Misstreez 11-16-2011 03:10 AM

I use an old version of Photoshop. I go to Image -> Image size. Dialog box opens and I usually make the longest side of my photo 500-600 pixels. OK. Next dialog box I select '4' for Quality. OK.

laurenscraft 11-16-2011 03:19 AM

I use Picassa for my photos, cropping, straightening, resizing and watermarking, everything so quick and easy. Picassa is a free program.

Misstreez 11-16-2011 03:54 AM

YAY. I won a Crafty Secrets pack worth $80 for the Hope challenges. Awesome! I'll have to come up with something real cool to make with the stuff. :)

Jan R 11-16-2011 04:53 AM

Lauren, I use Picasa all the time for downloading and editing photos but have not resized with it. How do you do that in Picasa?

DottyTeapot 11-16-2011 11:23 PM

Has anyone had a sneak peek at the new SU! mini? I'm not really lovin' it, but they do have one thing in there that I'd love to get.

I resize by clicking on ALL the photos that I am going to export out of Picassa for uploading to SCS or my blog

Then when they are all highlighted, I click on file and about 2/3 the way down the menu is 'Export Picture to Folder', click on this and a screen appears

It will automatically create a folder (in your pictures) called Picassa and a file in that called Exports, then you can name a folder (I leave the default date),

I use 800 pixels as my size

I use Maximum quality

And I click on ADD a watermark.

Good luck

laurenscraft 11-17-2011 01:10 AM

Way to go Theresa, with your win in the Hope Challenges, you deserve it after all your work!!!

I have not seen the mini catty. What do you like???

Misstreez 11-17-2011 10:51 AM
