Paper Brand for Alcohol Markers
I was asked what paper/cardstock I use for alcohol markers and thought it would be helpful to any new colorist/colourist to see some names of what others use so if you have a favorite please list it and where you purchased it.
Feel free to link to or attach an example of alcohol colored images too. I'll start with - Beckett Expressions - Radiance, purchased at Marco's Paper. Neenah Super Smooth was a gifted cardstock that works well also. |
I use the Georgia Pacific white card stock from Wal-Mart. Crafter's companion also makes a cardstock.

I too use the Georgia Pacific #110 pound white cardstock from Walmart for most of my basic coloring needs. It costs less than $6 for 150 sheets (4 cents a sheet).
I have some Neenah Classic Crest in Solar White that I bought when I first started. At the time, it was the recommended paper by Copic "professionals." It's cost is about $30 for 250 sheets (approx. 12 cents a sheet). I won't be buying it again. My amateur eye can't tell the difference between coloring on the Neenah and on the Georgia Pacific. Another paper that I recently discovered, thanks to Sue (gregzgurl) is the Michael's Recollections brand shimmer cardstock. The shimmery result of using alcohol ink on this paper is amazing. If you use a 50% off coupon the price is affordable. Regular price, $15 for 100 sheets (15 cents a sheet or 7.5 cents with a coupon). |
I too am a Neenah Classic Crest (Solar White) 110# fan. It's what I got started on an am used to using. I also have some of the Copic X-Press It which I also like, and when I really want to dress up my coloring, I use Cryogen White Iridescent 89# from papertemptress.com. It's listed under Copic Cardstock in the index column on the right hand side. You can purchase it in different size packages, it's usually always on sale, and it has the prettiest shimmer and sparkle to the paper without distracting from your image. It's just lovely. The photo doesn't do it justice, unfortunately. It's actually my favorite to use!!

Best (performance plus price) on the market for alcohol markers: Hammermill's Color Copy Digital Cover Paper (150 sheets, 100 pounds weight, 8.5 X 11 inches for about $22 a ream). Has a green frog on the front: do NOT make the mistake of buying the lower weight ream at most office supply stores that also has a green frog on the front. This 100 pound paper blends Copics like butter and is simply the best value I have found. It is awesome!

Fran Gibson, I was also going to mention the
Hammermill Color Copy Digital Cover, 8 1/2 x 11 Inches, 100 Lb, 250 Sheets/1 Pack (120024R) by Hammermill (Amazon link). I have not used it yet, just ordered my first ream, which- please note- does NOT come with the frog on it when ordered from Amazon, so choose your paper carefully. But the blogger who is actually a full time Copic artist uses this paper exclusively, and the price is really good- $22.09 for 250 sheets, free shipping! |
My favorite paper to use alcohol inks is Spectrum Noir ultra smooth premium white. It is 100 lb, very smooth and great for card bases and printing on gray-scale for digital stamps. I have the Neenah paper as well but really haven't tried it for alcohol inks.

Thanks everyone for the input.
I forgot about Georgia Pacific and it was the first cardstock I tested the Chameleon Pens on and I did use that image on a card. I'll be looking for the Recollection shimmer on my next shopping trip, that's a good value. |

They always seem to have good sales, and I like the option of trying out a small amount before you buy a big package. My past experiences have always been positive as well. :) |

My favorite is XPress-It Blending Stock, with the Hammermill 80# coming in a very close second. I also got mine on Amazon for $10/ream.

I also use the Crafter's Companion white card stock. I purchased it along with my Spectrum Noirs as they offered it at a really good price if you purchased the markers. I LOVE it. They run specials quite often and you get reward points when ordering from Crafter's Companion, so it's a win win for me :)

I use Crafter's companion white card stock and Neenah Solar White ultrasmooth #80 for coloring (#110 for card bases)
