I DID have a nice birthday, thank you all for your wonderful notes here. Speaking of cards, Tracie your card came today and Imke ... yours arrived EXACTLY on my birthday. Nicely planned my friend! Thank you both for those.

Decided to do a quick check in at work and saw Lena's health news and Vickie's good news, so had to make it a bit longer "check-in".

Lena, thoughts, prayers, love and hugs to you! With all the prayers going up for you, things just have to go well!!

Vickie, congrats on the news of the grandbaby! Will keep mama and baby in prayer that pregnancy goes well and a healthy baby results!

Jo, glad to hear you had a good birthday! Your card is still en route, I hope....

Linda, and Tracie, here's hoping the weather predictions are wrong and you don't get toooo much snow. When I saw the national news tonight, it looked like a big portion of the U.S. was in for blizzard conditions. Stay safe and warm, and we'll hope for a quick thaw for you both! Anyone else in the nasty weather pathway??

gotta get back to the babies....

Vickie--oops, sorry I forgot to say "Congrats" on the new baby --wishing mama/baby a smooth ride through the pregnancy.

Queenie--haha "elderly gravida" or being a "geriatric pregnancy," you are too funny! And as far as another baby was concerned at this house--I still remember the day when Patrick was completely potty trained and I left the diaper bag at home for the first time...there was absolutely no turning back after that day! hahaha Any news on the sale of your house?

Watching the map on TV this moring--we are right on the line--could get all of it or none of it-none means the ocean works in our favor this time...we shall see--it will be here tomorrow morning at this time if it happens!

Kathleen- BK certs...funny how my grown boys still love MickyD's not often but every now and again we see Micky'D's bags on the car floor! --and occasionally Wendy's-but no one seems to go to BK around here. I would have suggested taping it into the next kid bday party you have coming up--but glad Tracie can use em! I refuse to go in our BK--the whole place smells like they clean with one of those "toilet cake bars" --eeek...just an awful smell in the seating area of the restaurant...(like maybe one of the kid's that has floor duty is using the wrong stuff?) Aaaack!

I owe everyone bday cards--so bad here--headed to PO this morning and I am buying stamps! I find that if I have stamps at home--everyone gets cards!!!
Have a good Tuesday!

Just got back from the PO myself. Jo's card is postal, Lena's BK gift cards are postal, and finally Heather's kit is on the way (sorry it will be a bit late). The one lady at the PO, working there, had a horrendous cough and kept hacking into a little napkin, luckily I got the other worker. I'm sure germs were spreading like crazy there today, acck!

Going to try to get some cards done today. Haven't had much mojo lately. I just keep cleaning and sorting things out.

Susanne, hope the storm misses you!

Lena, thinking lots of positive thoughts for you as you head to the Dr. today. {{{hugs}}}}

Pat, your beautiful card arrived. Love those little chickens!

I'm off to the school in an hour to go see Caleb's Science Fair with Ken. Can I just tell you how glad I am that we are done with that project?!! I thought I was going to axe murder him this weekend. He was sooo whiny the entire time, "why do I have to do this?" Between making him finish the project and then asking him to tidy his room, I was in the running for the "worst mother EVER award!"

Lena - I am so sorry to hear your news. I will keep you in my prayers.

Just finished shoveling another 10 inches of snow. Ugh! I am soooo sore but DH couldn't get in driveway if I didn't shovel. I am always amazed that the (Young) neighbors just watch me and the lady across the street struggle to shovel our driveways. I just laugh. Figure it is my exercise for the week.

I have some good news that my dear friend Vickie probably won't pass on. She has been selected to be on the Twisted Tuesday design team with me. They are very lucky to have her talent.

Tracie, we only got about 3 inches and by this morning it was melting. Right now there is just a few patches left on the ground. Sorry you are having to shovel again.

Congratulations Vickie!

Kathy, hope you stay away from the postal ladies germs.

Lena, thinking of you.

Patti, so glad you had a few minutes to drop in.

Bought a snowblower yesterday. Ken was complaining about his sore back from shoveling and I wasted almost an hour shoveling ... enough is enough! Now if I can only figure out how to use it!

Congrats Vickie. You are going to be fantastic.

Speaking of fantastic ... loved that image you used on your Bugaboo card Kathy! Cute!

Joanna- I ship my b-day cards one week in advance. Apparently it fits well A snowblower ? That makes snow shoveling fun !!

Lena- I'm shocked. What a terrible diagnosis ! You know we are all thinking of you and I wish you much strength to fight it.

Vickie- We just talked about.... Congrats on your DT position !! And congrats on the new baby. Wonderful news...I think it's a good age to get a baby

Tracie- You still have so much snow ? Ugh... i hope it melts soon.

I will once again participate in two swaps. One is a card candie and the other is a Mo Manning swap. Both hostess are friends i know for many years from here. Paola (Sama) and Jeanette (Forestranger).
I have to handle my stuff !!! It has become so much (thanks to you) but slowly I'm out of space I am seriously considering to suspend the next round and only be a observer. I do not know where to store all these beautiful things. Because yesterday I received yet another wonderful package by Tracie !

What has all been there ?
* A beautiful bookmarks (i thinks its handmade ?) It's really nice with the beads and charms.
* A lovely handmade card
* Wonderful sweet images from SU (saw this set in the catalog and thought:Hey itīs nice)
* PTI Rosy Posy die cuts (I donīt have this set and iīm happy about it)
* A My Minds Eye paper pad with matching pins and brads. (LOVE these bright Colors!!)
* matching card stock
* A Memory Box Die
* StampīIt Magazine
* 1 MFT Pure Innocence Girl stamp set (super sweet)
* Two "Cafe on the Go" instand coffee

Tracie- I hope I did not forget anything ! Thank you so much for all these beautiful things. YES, I love the bright colors and YES, I love everything you sent. Thank you so much !

Our renovation continues. This time IN the house which is not as nice. We have to renew our water pipes. That means 2 new bathrooms. New tiles, toilet, sink, shower and so on. That costs a lot of money again. But when it's done, we do not have to renew them again.
In the apartment above it all is out. We have holes in the ceiling, because already pipes were removed. You can imagine-it looks a bit messy and that t is also still ongoing, because we do a lot yourself and that takes a little longer. But we have no choice. We must endure

Wish you all a great day !!

Good morning!

Couldn't sleep last night kept waking up during the night! Don't you just hate those nights?!

Imke when you own a house it seems there is always something to be done to it! My DH started painting the outside last summer and he's hasn't finished it yet???!!!!! ughhhhhhhhhhh

We have needed to remodel the bathroom for 10 years but so far nothing! Since I've been sick I sure could have used a rail in the tub to hold on to getting in and out. A new tub surround would sure be nice if nothing else.

Vicky I'm so happy for you! Congrats on the DT!!! Doing the happy dance for you! You'll be great.

Well ladies here goes......

I have stage 111 A squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus. It's to large an area for radiation. So we are going to start out with chemo to try and shrink it first. She said she would have to use the strongest meds out there. Then she told me to get all my things in order not to wait. She wants to do one more scan not sure if it's going to be a CT or a PET scan will have to wait and see. What really sucks is I've been paying cash for everything and they want their money as you walk in the door! But God has been good and I've been able to do that!
The weakness... I thought I wasn't getting enough protein NOPE I haven't been getting enough calories!!!!!! Who would have thought??? I've lost 16 pounds since sometime in Jan not really sure when but when you can't eat solid foods it hard for me to get the calories. I hate being weak so every time I open my mouth some calories are going in!!! Now if I could eat solid foods I'd have no problem!
lol

Hope everyone has a great day see ya later!

Imke--Wowza--great kit from Tracie! And, it sounds like you have your hands full redoing your bathroom(s)! I hope you are not doing all the pipe work on the same day or you'll have to run over to the neighbors house to borrow their bathroom! That's a lot of work and everything is so very expensive to replace--but like you said, if it needs it and its done right--never again will you have to fidget with all that! While we were at our neighbors NEW house this weekend-the neighbors and us were all talking about the age of our homes and what everyone has had to replace--one neighbor took their son's college money and bought new cars and replaced their tuition (he chose to go to a less expensive school)...but it seems that 3 of us need NEW counter-tops and a kitchen update--our houses are all 20+ years old.

Speaking of neighbors...the young couple right next to our house just put their house on the market-its in pristine condition since Greg (the owner) has fixed it up constantly and travels about 20 days a month-so no one uses it! His new wife is preggo and they are moving closer to Boston. It's a very cute house--not too large but ready to move in.

Lena--wow, our prayers are with you. Not to compare, but when I was pregnant with Kala the doctor said in my 6th month to eat more protein and I NEEDED to gain weight! So off I went to chow on steaks and such, came back the next month and was told I gained too much!!! I gave it to them--told them to go read my file-they told me to gain weight! I wish you the best-you will be in my prayers everyday...This has been such a tough year for you and your family.

Imke, what a fun kit from Tracie!

Today is grocery shopping day; think I'm staying in town instead of driving 45 minutes to shop. It's kinda foggy out so don't want to be on the Interstate!

Hope everyone has a crafty day!

Lena, would you say that there is some positive and negative in this news? I was reading briefly and it says that esophogeal cancer is often diagnosed late stage. Stage IIIA sounds "early late", which hopefully makes you in a better place to fight this battle and win. That being said, I can't imagine the frustration and pain you must be feeling trying to eat and maintain your strength. I know that some of this treatment is not going to be fun and I'm sure you know that we're there for you along the way.

Did you say that you had breast cancer previously? Do they know if this is a recurrence of the same cancer or something else?

I'm curious to know what your symptoms were? I've heard too many stories in the past few years about people diagnosed with a cancer that someone close to them also had...but it wasn't discussed. I can't help but think if we were more open and willing to discuss these things, it could save lives by identifying things early.

Lena, keep us posted on your treatments. Have you tried Ensure or Ensure puddings? They are high cal. and have protein. Not sure if you've already tried them.

Imke, more renovations??? Wow. That will be great to have everything so solid when you are finished. We've been debating a kitchen remodel, but I think I could only handle it in the summer, it's too hectic to not have a kitchen with trying to get the kids to school every day.

Vickie, way to go! You will be an asset to the DT. I saw Heartfelt creations had a DT call, and thought of you right away. You've got that classy style.

Susanne, we are only getting rain, too. I'm glad it's not snow!

Wow Lena, I can't imagine your pain right now (both emotionally and physically). Fighting cancer is a long and draining battle. I've only done it as a ride along when my father and sister fought their battles, but I know how exhausting and isolating it can be. My heart aches for you. You are in my thoughts.

Lena - Please stay strong. We want the very best for you.

Imke - I am like you, storage is getting to be a real problem. Glad you got your kit - better early than late I guess. I never know how long to plan on postage.

Okay girls, we need to come up with something really creative for the next round. Everyone has been so generous that we all are having more than we can possibly keep up with. Does anyone know how we can keep this group going? Such a great group of gals.

Lena, thinking of you and hoping you can find something to drink that will give you lots of strength to fight. You are a strong lady and I know you are going to need lots of prayers and good thoughts which we are all sending to you. Let us know how it is going and when treatments will start and how you are feeling. Lots of Hugs from my family to yours. Hope you can do the ensure. I didn't know about the puddings but so glad to find out about them. I am also praying for your family, I know that it is a very emotional time for all of you.

Tracie, I agree that we need to keep the group going! There have been other cardkit swaps that do nothing more than swap kits...that is, 6x6 paper, some cardstock, a few embellishments, ribbon, and stamped images (instead of stamps and full paper pads, etc). Just a thought. I think Patti had mentioned a couple different ways to do the swap next time, too.

Kathy, thanks for your confidence in me regarding Heartfelt Creations!! I LOVE HC and have lots and lots of their stamp sets and dies; just not sure I'm ready!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

I met Patti through a swap on SCS called "Flooded with Gifts" and there were 3 groups of a dozen each I think...each had a month and 11 people in your group flooded you on your month! So its kinda like what we are doing now only the entire group goes towards 1 person a month. Now, it was great for me--but some of the participants towards the end didn't luck out as well. Some of the participants fell back on their word (NOT that that would happen here since we know everyone pretty well)...Or they gave used items from their personal stash instead of new things-which was not part of the swap) Or worse-totally dissed them at the end! Sad to say--they gave all year long to others--and my summation was that a year was too long with "strangers" involved.

Color Swap--Same set up as now 1 per month/3 groups: Each of us choose (4) favorite colors--we discuss which color we'll take from the person's list--(so someone doesn't end up with 4 of the same color in their month)...and we each KEEP to that color--just paper, ribbon, doodads, cardstock--build a story of color...(this sounds like a fun challenge to me)

Example: Let's say Vickie chooses: Red, Black, Pink, Blue-I am in Vickie's group...I take the color Blue-everyone else takes another color...we put together a cardkit with whatever is in our color theme for that person. No duplicate colors! (Thinking about goodies...Vickie-do you like Almond Joy's?)<--it's got blue on the wrapper!!!

Do we have to swap something? I mean, we swap ideas, stories, pictures, etc. Would that be enough for everyone?

Or what about sort of like a wish list. We write down something we wouldn't mind having and you can have your wish fulfilled during your month: good book to read, pre-colored images, maybe some spellbinder die cut-outs in specific colors, something like that.

I really want to keep chatting. I love hearing your stories and really DO feel like you are my friends despite never having me. What can we do to save this swap?

That was my thought exactly !! I love to send something and get something. But after the long time it has become too much, my space is very limited and is quite full

My suggestion was: send something homemade. Something that we have done with all these wonderful things that we have received. But I think the idea was not a deal breaker for some ***lol***

I want to stay in touch in any case !!! The Image Swap is already a great idea. Maybe we can find something similar. Many of us like to cook and bake. How about a recipe swap ? Just a thought.

Okay girls, we need to come up with something really creative for the next round. Everyone has been so generous that we all are having more than we can possibly keep up with. Does anyone know how we can keep this group going? Such a great group of gals.

That being said, I can't imagine the frustration and pain you must be feeling trying to eat and maintain your strength. I know that some of this treatment is not going to be fun and I'm sure you know that we're there for you along the way.

Yes Heather I would say that. Stage 111 A means they found one or two lymph nodes affected.

Did you say that you had breast cancer previously? Do they know if this is a recurrence of the same cancer or something else?

Yes, I had breast cancer 23 years ago stage 1. No, it was not the same cancer. Different cancer different location.

I'm curious to know what your symptoms were? I've heard too many stories in the past few years about people diagnosed with a cancer that someone close to them also had...but it wasn't discussed. I can't help but think if we were more open and willing to discuss these things, it could save lives by identifying things early.

My symptoms started in Oct with pain just below my sternum when I tired to eat. Then in Nov it seemed to get better?! Then in Dec I was so distraught over losing my grandson and worrying about my daughter I was numb don't remember much about what was going on with myself. No one in my family has ever had this type of cancer before. My sweet baby sister that lives in Ohio close to Patti had breast cancer two years to the day after me, same breast same location but a different type of cancer her's was a stage 4. I've worried about her all these years and we visit each other as much as possible. Believe me we have an open line to each other about what is going on with each other.

Sweetheart I had a hard time telling you girls. Not that I didn't want to discuss my sickness but this kind of news throws you into an emotional turmoil. Plus I was already there worrying about Tina and the rest of my family.

I've been with this group for a looooooooooooong time! lol We have done so many fun things along our journey with each other!
I'm sure we all have supplies coming out our ears.

I would also miss reading all the chit chat and I've made some wonderful friends here some are like my family!

We all have things going on in our lives and we have this wonderful group to share with. I was thinking that maybe we could make cards or homemade items from our stash and send them to each other in the group. We have new babies, new babies on the way, new homes, remodeling of homes, DT news! Empty nest syndrome Great doctors reports or not! Birthdays, congrats and just saying Hi thinking of you today. New snow blowers I could go on forever if I read back some of the posts. We could make groups like we do now.. We would be using what we have and sharing and making someones day brighter.

Just an idea.

Lena, thank you for your willingness to share so much of what is going on with you and your recent diagnosis. Painful as it may be to share, it helps us direct our support and prayers for you!!

This is an awesome group. Funny how most of us have not met in person, yet I feel I know you better than some folks I see day to day! Everyone here is positive and supportive in whatever joys and sorrows life throws our way.

Some awesome ideas have been mentioned to keep our group going, even if we do not continue to exchange the beautiful and extensive "kits" as we have been doing. I am all for keeping the group going! I was going to have to drop out of the next round if we continued the huge packages of goodies...so I am hoping we can some up with an alternative. Right now, I am having a bit of trouble thinking of something different, but as my mind clears, I will happily share any ideas I may come up with.

For those of you who do not "do" Facebook, yesterday, in the early morning hours, I received a phone call at work from my dad. He was concerned because my mom would not sleep and was agitated and pacing. Mom has Alzheimers, but this was definitely not her norm. So I advised him to take her to ED at the hospital my husband works at. At 5 am, I received a phone call from nurse in the ED that mom had had a heart attack and was being admitted. I went to the hospital directly from work. No monitored beds available, miscommunication among the cardiology group that DH works for, kept us in the ED til after 3 pm. Long day. Finally mom was admitted to a room, and we got my dad, sister, and brother together for a serious discussion with the doctor. We decided, due to her advancing Alzheimers, to not do any drastic measures or invasive technology. Mom is alert, comfortable, and likely headed home today. But it was a looonnnngggg, emotionally draining day.

On a good note, I found a lovely, blue and white striped package at the doorstep from Quinlan, Texas! Because of the long day and exhaustion, I did not even open the package....but will come back to share with you all the kit Lena sent!

have a great day, my dear friends!

Good morning!

I've been trying to keep up on the chatter....

Lena, have been thinking of you.... So glad you have a close bond with your sister...you have your SCS friends to lean on too.

Vickie, congrats on the DT and also your daughter's baby news...so exciting!

Susanne, I was told to gain weight too...one month I gained 9 pounds...I remember my Mom about having a fit since she hardly gained weight with her pregnancies, but she wasn't tiny like me.

Imke, so excited about your bathroom renovations...can't wait to see the results! When we moved in, I found the retro bathroom charming and wanted to keep it "as is"...now I don't find the lack of storage and counter space charming so it will get done whenever I can scrape together the money.

Joanna, how does the new snowblower work?

Vickie, your package goes out today...sorry I am running behind, but maybe it will be fun to have your month extended a bit.

Have been a bit overwhelmed with everything going on here. Ivy has been consuming a lot of my time: traveling with volleyball, cupcakes (Who knew they would be such a hit? We have had a LOT of orders this week.), her back (She started yoga, per the recommendation of the specialist. We had to go with private, but she will transition into morning group sessions when school gets out. The instructor is a woman I went to church with when we were kids; she is so good with Ivy and very knowledgeable about scoliosis. She says Ivy is very flexible and double jointed...perhaps that is why this wasn't figured out earlier since her body just compensated for her crooked spine.) Have discovered that Davis has a slight curve in his spine; roughly the same place and direction as Ivy's. It is at the stage where it needs to be watched; it's not common in boys. He is also feeling left out because of all the time spent with Ivy, so have been trying to deal with that and let him know that he is still special even though Ivy is requiring the bulk of my time at the present. Work has been busy too...too many extra things that I am going in for on my days off, which throws off the entire day and it isn't really a day off. I am ready for things to slow down!

I just saw your note, Patti (we must have been typing at the same time). So sorry to hear about your Mom and the fiasco at the hospital. Sending good wishes her way!

My Origami Owl stuff came in the mail...I will send a catalog to anyone who would like one. Davis was checking out the charms with me...they are so fun...there is something to represent everyone.

Wow, lots to catch up on.

Patti-so sorry to hear that your mom had a heart attack-it's good that your dad was on top of it and you all have the 'hospital connections'..wow, that is half the battle huh? The discussion and family decision must have taken everything out of all of you...it's so emotionally draining and difficult to even phantom the thought-even though it is something that has to be discussed. My mom had a DNR on her med file and I didn't feel comfortable honoring it at the end-odd how it is 'slightly discussed' with the patient but leaves the family with the loose ends...{Play God?-No thanks!...We ended up having her brought to the hospital and she pulled through well enough to come home again. I remember thinking of my mom's own words; "Let God, let go"...not sure if it was a comfort or distraction at the time. I was sent home from the hospital that night and when I received a call from the hospital the next morning-I thought they would be telling me she was gone...instead, they said she was up and asking for breakfast! I never drove so fast to the hospital in my life! Anyway, it was not her time yet. A few weeks later, she passed away at home and I was with her there-very peacefully. Heavy heart, my thoughts are with you.

Angela--it's very hard when so much is going on with one child and you have to juggle the family unit so everyone gets what they need-or just some good old fashion family time. You and Ivy should think about taking you cupcake venture to a new level? Maybe? The best new businesses start out of someone's garage, basement, kitchen...etc! I hope the yoga helps Ivy and now that you are so aware of her situation and Davis has something going on too...Wow, that's a lot to endure all at once. {{{Angela's family}}}}

Another swap Patti and I were in was with a dozen SCS women and it was simple and fun...no images--just ideas...Each person had a month and a concept to choose a challenge...Example: June/Wedding/White on White card...(I will post a photo--just saw it the other day when I was looking for something else...) It was a very fun swap-we sent out our designs to one another--but instead of mailing --we could upload them here! A total virtual swap and everyone gets to pick a topic in their own month! Patti--do you remember the name of this swap? I'll have to go see what I called it in my computer.

{{{{hugs to the room}}}} I think everyone needs one today!

Patti, sorry to hear your mom had a heart attack, that's scary. Glad she can go home today. Hope you can get some rest.

I agree, we have to keep up this swap somehow. I think of all of you as friends, too. Lena, you made me laugh, new babies, snow blowers... We all have been together for quite some time.

What about a card shower? Like we do now, but just send a card to the lady getting showered. Or it could be something homemade (either a card or altered item). Lena organized a Wish Rak swap where we shopped our stash for the other person, it was fun. We could do a simpler card kit, where we have to use our stash, send enough to create one or two cards (not whole paper packs, and new stamps, etc). Just trying to think of ideas. I definitely don't want to lose touch with this great group. But I'm about out of space, too.

Angela, glad Ivy started yoga and is doing well. I'm blown away by her cupcake business, that is fantastic, you may be able to retire soon, lol, just kidding of course. But, I am glad it has done so well. Has she made most of what she needs for her trip yet? Gosh, I don't remember hearing about boys having curvature of the spine, in fact, I think in school they only checked the girls. Glad you had Davis checked and can keep an eye out. I would love an Origimi Owl catalog. I did go and look at Krista's post at Sat. Canary, her necklace is so pretty.

Vickie, you are talented as anyone out there! HC would be lucky to snap you up for a designer, lol! You do gorgeous projects.

I stayed up late to try and finish the Love Fest challenges last night, then I got sucked into a documentary on The Eagles. I've always loved their music, it was very interesting, but at 1:30 I finally had to shut it off. May be a long day today, I'm used to trying to get 7 hours at least, lol!

Linda, I've seen Denise more on f/b, is she feeling a bit better? I miss her over here!

Joanna, did you get the snowblower out of the car?

Off to straighten up a bit. Will check in later!

Found the card I mentioned above:

Swap style: Each of us get a month/our own challenge.

Rather than mail the card/project out to each of us--we post it here

Here is my sample of a challenge: June Wedding/White on White

The second picture is my "Recycled Doll"--it was made out of all items in my craft room--notice the Michael receipts as legs!!! hahaha The dress was from an order of bottle cozies that I never used for K's birthday (after I had received them I figured I didn't want kids running around with root beer Bottles at her party--but never returned them to the company) So it made the perfect dress! The theme was with everyone's zodiac sign--so I typed up a short blurb inside the card to personalize it...this is when we sent them out to everyone!
