Happy first day of work with Olive. What a lucky family to have you and Bekah to take care of their little girl.

Hi Jeanette!!

So now I can finally tell you all my dd17's prom dress story. She fell in love with this $600 prom dress at the fancy dress store in town. I absolutely refused to let her get it at that price. She took pictures of the dress, the tags, etc. and found the same exact dress online for $200. I checked out the website, thought it looked legit, a girl from school confirmed she ordered her dress from them last year and all was fine. So she ordered her dress back in March. It was supposed to come in less than a month. I purposely ordered it with my credit card and not her bank atm so I would have some "purchase protection" if needed. Well two days later I realize that the payment for the dress went to China. I thought about it a bit, rechecked the website and crossed my fingers that it would be ok. The dress didn't come in the month that we thought it would, so my daughter contacted them and they said since her prom date wasn't until June, she would have it by May 30th. DD told her that wasn't acceptable, she needed it by May 5th for a photo shoot she was doing. So they ended up sending her the dress and she received it a few weeks ago. Well, the dress came and looked nothing like the dress she ordered so needless to say we were not happy with it. After several emails to the company they kept saying "you bought it, you must accept the dress". There is no address to return the dress to even though we contacted them within their "return policy" parameters. As soon as I got the first unfriendly email from them, I contacted my credit card company who encouraged me to file a "fradulent" charge claim. They said I could drop the claim if all worked out with the company. The lady told me to be very specific with my details and the more information they had, the more chances my claim would go through. So, I'm happy to say that my credit card company has refunded all the charges, which is even better than the company's return policy would have been if they allowed us to return the dress.

As soon as the dress arrived and we knew that there was no way she was wearing it to the prom no matter what, we went back to the fancy dress store. Before we walked in I told my dd she has a budget of $300 and no more (her money, and by then we learned her boyfriend and his family are paying for everything (prom tickets, hair, makeup, etc.). Another dress that she liked before she found the $600 dress was still there and because it was getting late in the prom season and she had a budget, with tax included her dress was $296 and she decided it was a more "fun" dress than the one she thought she wanted.

Of course, the moral of the story is...............................let your grandmother make your dress, and none of this would have been a problem.

GOOD MORNING!

Linda, that is quite the prom dress story. So glad you had a good outcome with getting a refund on the first dress. I about had a heart attack when you mentioned paying $600 for a prom dress. Holy cow! Maybe a wedding gown but a prom dress??? Yikes! Guess I'm an old fashioned gal. Yeah, I think having grandmother make the dress sounds like a great idea. Reminds me of my mom who was a genius at creating awesome clothes. She could have seen a picture of the dress your DD wanted and re-created it probably better than the original.

Michelle, wishing you a super great day with Olive!

Happy June 1st--where it is 55 degrees today and was 95 last Sunday. Go Figure!

I have a couple of errands to do this afternoon--taking Lola the Leaf to get a part for her battery, picking up roomie from work and going to a window/door showroom to confirm the 2 patio doors and 3 windows we are having replaced this summer, going out to dinner and stopping by a friend's house to watch a bit of the Brewer's game with them.

Have a Fantastic Friday!

Mae--there is a site call snopes--you can type in any subject and it will see if it is fact or fiction.

here is the link: snopes.com: Urban Legends Reference Pages

I used to use it a lot when I was teaching as there were some people that would forward all kinds of emails.

Hi Pansy.... oh my! I don't think I could retire if it meant my mornings would start that early. LOL! I hope you're enjoying your retirement! Can't believe it's been a year, can you?

April, you really want to kiss Linda's DD's prom dress????????

So glad Barb had an answer for you, Mae!

Judy, I'm with you.... $600 seems mighty steep for a prom dress. Glad our "prom days" are over at our house.

Jan, I hope your day goes well. Summer is coming.

Barb, it's good to see you this morning; I see retirement doesn't start as early in the morning for you as it does for Pansy.
Hi All! How does one find out if an email rumor is true or not?

My Old Age health insurance is being threatened. First IL is trying to reduce retirees pensions by 1. reducing COLAS or 2. removing health insurance from the package.

I get an email saying Medicare premiums will double from 2013 -to 2014. Any more good news?
Not true!!!! Probably will increase but not by that amount.

I thought $200 was.more than enough, especially since my mom could.make.her a.fine dress for.less than $100. I allowed her a budget of $300 only after I learned that she was wearing an old pair of shoes, doesn't have to buy a prom ticket, no flowers and no hair or nails. Since she is saving money on all that stuff, and the only thing she has to pay for is her dress and some pictures (sil will take for free, we just pay for what we get printed, but she is providing pictures to her.boyfriends family since they are doing her hair.

Yes, I knew that a link existed to check out stuff but didn't know where. I am going to write it down.

Talking

Hi Everyone!!

Just stopping by here quickly.

I just got home from taking mom to lunch. We had a Grecian meal - lamb, Grecian String Beans, Rice Pilaf, Greek Salad (mom had one of those, I had Spanakopita, which is Spinach & Feta Cheese blended together, then put between layers of Phyllo pastry - the pastry the use with Baklava) THEN, I got "honey puffs" called Loukoumades -like a type of donut hole that is elongated, with honey drizzled over it, and sesame seeds & cinnamon sprinkled on top. YUMM!!
Needless to say, both of us brought half of our meals home - mom will have hers for dinner, my DH will eat the half I left.

We are going to have some really bad storms here today - I hear thunder in the distance!

Hope everyone enjoys today!!

I think that is the joy of having boys and running a beauty salon. They have two boys 15 and 18 and have "adopted" the girlfriends. They are very wealthy on top of it and think nothing of taking them out for family dinners with them.............all expenses paid. Ironically, my daughter didn't really know much about him home/family life until they started dating. They've been friends for 3+ years.
