JANUARY 2O21 MISSION - CARDS FOR A CAUSE
2021 Cards For A Cause JANUARY MISSION Stamp from the Heart! ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED: Covenant House Alaska DESCRIPTION: (From their website) The vision of Covenant House Alaska is to be the leader, through collaboration with the community, to provide compassionate, sustainable services and shelter to homeless or at-risk youth in Alaska. Youth experiencing homelessness or trafficking come to Covenant House in crisis. Immediately and without question, they meet their basic human needs—a nourishing meal, shower, clean clothes, medical attention and a safe place away from the dangers of the street. Their ultimate goal is to help each young person move on with their lives in positive ways with counseling, education, stable employment and secure housing. With the community’s help, they are working everyday to meet that goal. I encourage you to take a look at their website and also their blog (link to the blog on the website) to learn more about this ministry. WEBSITE: Covenant House AlaskaTYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED: Thank You, Birthday, Anniversary (celebrating years of service for volunteers and staff), and blank note cards. SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS: Christian themes are welcome but not necessary. Envelopes would really be helpful if possible. GUIDELINES: Please keep in mind, we are representing SCS by sending our cards each month. Recycling is always good, but only use products on your cards that you would like to receive on cards. Also, our card donations are not tax deductible and it is not required. Please do not ask for a receipt. There have been groups that will send thank you's but the "referred by" person keeps us informed and passes on the thank you's. Most of these organizations are volunteers and spend countless hours helping others, let's help make their jobs easier and bless them in helping others. MAILING ADDRESS: Please mail cards to... Covenant House Alaska Attn: Holly Payne PO Box 100620 Anchorage, AK 99510-0620 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want an extra challenge? Looking for a little extra challenge for this month? January is all about "firsts" - the first month of a new year, New Years Resolutions, starting new goals. So let's do something new - use a new stamp you haven't used yet, try using a new technique you've never done, use a new card sketch, use one of those new crafty goodies you received from Christmas. If you are looking for a new technique or new sketch - there are plenty right here on Splitcoast in the forums. Get those creative juices flowing and let's have some creative fun!
Be sure to use the keyword C4AC so that we can check out your card and comment!

Thanks Zella! Looking forward to donating cards again in 2021 and am super excited to get a lengthy preview on the 2021 At A Glance thread -- This will make my planning and creating so much more efficient when I can "stack" cause themes together and work ahead! Becca

I have a question as to who these cards will be going to. Are they for the staff to give to residents or for residents personal use. If they also give help to young people, maybe some cards for that age group would be appreciated.

Great question! Some cards will be used for their volunteers and donors (thank you cards are typically sent to donors, a lot of organizations like to send Birthday and Anniversary cards to their volunteers, etc), but of course many of their cards will be used for their clients who are teens and preteens as well as some younger. So yes, cards with a teenager in mind are very welcome! Thanks for asking!!!

A Positive Theme to start the year!! So a mixed bag - Birthday (teens and adults), Anniversary (Adults), Thank You (Adults) and Blank - which will likely be for both? I'll get started!!!

Zella, Thanks so much to clearing that up. Thought that teens would not really like receiving cards with flowers or butterflies on them. LOL

A THANK YOU!
Hello Everyone! I received an email from Holly and wanted to share it with you:
Just wanted to let you know that we received our first batch of cards this week. They are beautiful and we are so excited to send them to the youth we serve and volunteers who support us! Thanks again for thinking of us for this month’s beneficiary. Holly Payne (she/her). Volunteer Coordinator
Once again - y'all are impacting people you will probably never meet....but what an impact you have on their lives!!! Thank you for your generosity, your kind spirit, and your amazing hearts!!!

Last week I finished cards--put 20 A5 with envies in a gallon zip lock bag, and put that inside a 9x12 manilla envelope. To send via USPS was $6.50. Is that what I should expect to pay each time? Is there a better way to send? Thanks it advance--this is my first time to participate...

I don't know about other PO's but mine allows me to send a manila envelope with usually 25 cards and envelopes at book rate and is costs me $2.88. Never had a problem and the cards always arrive without a problem. I will take a few more days to be delivered, but I am not in a hurry.

Thanks--I'll ask about that the next time I have a batch ready to send.

Reaching out to our youth is always worthwhile. So glad I was able to contribute something.
