DESCRIPTION: The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (HAWS) is a non-profit organization established in 1965 that assists over 8,000 animals and welcomes more than 35,000 human visitors each year. As an open admission shelter, we accept animals regardless of age, health, temperament or breed. Our full service humane society offers programs and services that promote responsible pet ownership, preventing animal abuse and neglect in our community and beyond. HAWS promotes the humane care and treatment of all animals, in support of cooperative humane efforts throughout the state of Wisconsin. HAWS is a member of the Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies. HAWS is not affiliated with any other local or national humane organization. We invite you to explore our site and learn more about us!

Hi! I would like to know if Rebecca needs ongoing cards for this organization. I have a lot of paper with cats and dogs and I think it would be perfect for them, but it will take a while for me to make cards for their specific needs.
Thank you

ScrapperBecca 08-01-2023 04:48 PM

Yes, they do take cards on an ongoing basis. The two themes they use the most are Thank You and Sympathy cards, which I restock for them as I have time. Currently, they can use any of the themes that are on the header list.

Dogs and cats are great! They can also use birds, bunnies, lizards/turtles/reptiles, gerbils/hamsters and other small critters, and believe it or not.....horses! We have a secondary facility that helps with horse care and camps.

Thanks for your consideration and support of this amazing organization!

I made a bunch of cat and dog thank you notes. Do you want them to be blank or what kind of sentiment…you’re so thoughtful or thanks for you kindness, etc Also,
are the sympathy cards for loss of a pet or just general?

rainykay 08-02-2023 11:29 AM

Count me in. Just received some new dog and cat stamps that will work great for this cause.

ScrapperBecca 08-03-2023 11:17 AM

Hi Terry!

If the thank you notes already have the sentiment 'thank you' or similar on the card front, you are welcome to leave the inside blank. I believe they try to personalize the inside of the thank you notes to their donors. For the sympathy cards, they would use them either for recipients who have lost a pet, or for animal lovers affiliated with the shelter (staff, volunteers, fundraising partners) who have suffered a loss. Great questions!

Thanks,
Becca

Thanks Lorraine! Can't wait to see the new stamps. I recently picked up some new pet paper from Echo Park (Pets) and Doodlebug Designs (Pretty Kitty and Doggone Cute) and have been really happy with the cards using them - lots of adorable papers!

Thanks,
Becca

I'm sending 75 cards out today. Sorry for the delay - extremely hot weather and no air conditioning, I just couldn't use my upstairs craft room. Great cause so happy to make cards for them!

ScrapperBecca 09-06-2023 11:59 AM

Oh my goodness, no need to apologize! Even without any A/C issues, it's fine to send the cards when it works best for you. And especially WITH the A/C issues....yikes! I hope you were able to find a place to stay cool and comfortable.

To anyone else still working on cards, please don't feel that you 'missed' a deadline. I know we all try to get our cards posted by the end of the month, but it happens to me too that occasionally I'll spill over into the following month before I can make it to the post office. And with this past weekend being a holiday, I'm anticipating that there are still some packages being mailed and en route.

I have two new packages that arrived yesterday and today to open and I'll be sending a message a bit later with an update on those. Thank you ALL so very much for being such generous supporters of the Cards 4 a Cause group each month. I love being part of this group!

Becca

Hi everyone,

Just popping in with my 'cards received' update - today I received a package of adorable animal themed Thank You cards from Lee Mae in WA.

I'm realizing that I wish I could see more of our donated cards every month, I have been so inspired by seeing what other crafters have created, especially when they use a paper I have also used - it's great fun to see how they make their magic. I'm going to have to try to do a better job of uploading pics of more cards before I mail them out. I used to do that a bit more often, but kind of got away from it and and will try to do a better job of sharing going forward.

Thanks!
Becca

Hi Everyone,

I am working on our final totals for the cards everyone generously donated for HAWS. I think I have received the last of the known packages, but I wanted to share a couple of wonderful and unexpected things that have happened in the last week or so.

I was away for a few days travelling, and when I returned, I found I had received a second package from one of our amazing crafters. L. from CA sent in a second box of beautiful cards to include in our donation to HAWS!! In addition, I had attended a crafting retreat the weekend after Labor Day, and two of the gals I met at that event each gave me a large supply of cards to forward to HAWS.

I am blown away by everyone's generosity, creativity and positivity. There were so many kind and encouraging notes included in the packages, and I am touched by the kindness of everyone who took part in supporting this organization. With these three additions, we have over 1,000 cards to drop off to HAWS! My volunteer coordinator is going to be so delighted, thank you all!

Hi everyone, me again...

Happy to report two last surprises to add into the mix! I received a box of cards last week from Pam in NY and one from Debbie in CA yesterday!

Crafters, you have seriously outdone yourselves... Thanks again to everyone for their time, talent, and very generous donations!
