Request for get well card - PLEASE HELP!
My sister-in-law us 55 and a breast cancer survivor. She fell and broke her hip about 15 months ago. (chemo has caused osteoporosis) She has had 5 hip replacement surgeries in that time. She got a bad infection with this last replacement so they had to take everything back out and clean out the infection and let it heal before doing another hip replacement down the road. She is very very depressed and ready to die. She did say that "nobody sends her cards". So, I thought I would try to take care of that for her and know she would really appreciate some handmade cards from all the wonderful people here on SCS. So, if you have time and would like to send her one, here is her address:

Regina Link
308 41st Ave Place NW
Hickory, NC 28601

Thanks so so much! I am in the middle of grouting tile so will try to check back later.

debsee 09-30-2011 10:19 AM

I will mail her one tomorrow.
Such a small kind gesture on everyone's part would make a world of difference to someone like Regina.

I would love to send her a card of encouragement .... I'll try to get it out early next week.

I will get one in the mail today!

SoSherry 10-01-2011 05:38 PM

Thanks so much for all those sending cards! I think she has a very long road ahead of her with much of her time in the hospital and nursing homes so she will certainly enjoy getting mail.

Sarge 10-02-2011 06:42 PM

I'll be happy to send a card along to her. Kay

craftymomto2 10-03-2011 06:42 PM

I will get one out this week.

SoSherry 10-07-2011 12:44 PM

Thanks so much ladies. She will be bedridden for about 6 months as she has no hip. When she is fully healed they will try another hip replacement and pray it goes better. Keep the cards coming! She loves them!

Stamping Servant 10-08-2011 02:51 PM

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to send her some cheer!

~ Rita

One going out on Tuesday....no mail Monday for Columbus Day!

SoSherry 10-09-2011 07:45 AM

UPDATE: My sister-in-law has been moved to a nursing home and will stay there till the end of the year. They are hoping they will put a new hip in in December. She is completely bedridden now without a hip. She is in a great deal of pain and of course depression. I just can't imagine being like that as I am 53 and she is 55! She has a very long road ahead of her and it's not going to be fun. Thanks for all the cards...keep them coming! SCS ladies are the greatest!!!

SoSherry 10-15-2011 11:04 AM

Update: Well, things are still not looking good for my sister-in-law. She will be having another hip surgery on Tues to fix a spacer that they put in temporarily until they can eventually put the hip back together. The spacer is bent. So, this means she will start all over with her wait for the hip replacement and it will be at least another 6-8 weeks before they can put it back in. Then another few months in the nursing home. So, it's looking like she will be in a hospital or nursing home through at least Feb. She is very very very depressed as anyone would be who has gone through so many hip surgeries. Please continue to keep the cards coming. She LOVES LOVES LOVES them and it can really brighten a gloomy day in the nursing home for her.

SoSherry 10-29-2011 11:59 AM

Thanks so much ladies...she has a very long recovery ahead of her. She is so very depressed as anyone would be so I'm sure these beautiful cards will help lift her spirits. She will most likely be in the hospital or nursing home through Feb at least. I just can't imagine myself going through that and I'm almost the same age!

craftymomto2 11-06-2011 06:49 PM

Will send another one this coming week.

SoSherry 11-07-2011 04:44 AM

Thanks ladies. She shows everyone that walks in her room her beautiful cards and is so proud of them. My Mom says her attitude has changed so much just be getting all the lovely cards. She has something to admire and keep her mind off her troubles.

absolutelymagic 11-07-2011 08:20 AM

So happy her spirits have lifted. I will keep sending them to her. Opening these cards are like opening a little present! You are a good sister-in-law.

Regina had her 7th surgery on her hip on Tues before Thanksgiving. She is in the hospital for a week to 10 days and then back to Rehab for several months. She had to have a piece of metal screwed in to her hip to keep everything attached. Her body has been through so much trauma in that area in the past 14 months. She can not put ANY weight on the one side for 2 1/2 months. We pray this is the last surgery. Her skin is in very very bad shape where she has had the same surgery 7 times. Not sure it will ever be back to normal. Please keep her in your prayers. She is only 55 years old and the youngest in the nursing/rehab home!

SoSherry 12-01-2011 03:04 PM

I forgot to add that she has a bulletin board in her room that she puts all the beautiful cards on. She shows them to EVERYONE that walks in. She loves getting them. Thanks so much ladies!

I have been working on another card for Regina today and will have it in the mail soon. Thank you for the update .... I continue to lift her up in prayer.

craftymomto2 12-04-2011 04:47 PM

Sent a Christmas card to Regina this afternoon, will be on it's way in the am.

SoSherry 12-04-2011 06:43 PM

UPDATE...Regina went to the Rehab home this week. She went by a van and my brother met her at the Rehab home. She got there with a 103 fever. HE WAS FURIOUS! He has been trying to reach the doctor but he is on vacation for 2 weeks. His assistant has been worthless. Her fever is still high today. Her white blood count is normal so hopefully she doesn't have another infection. This was her 7th surgery (hip replacement!!!) in 15 months. The doctor said he has never seen a case so severe in all his years so you would think he would care enough to at least call and see how she is doing. My brother is smelling a lawsuit! They have been through so much and we're just not sure how much more her body can take. She's had the same incision in the same spot 7 times and my Mom says it is very very nasty looking - and she just retired from nursing after 60 years!
Thanks for all the cards...she has a long road ahead of her and prayers are appreciated too!

Sarge 12-04-2011 06:46 PM

I also have a Christmas card to send her, is there someone to take it to the hospital from her mailing address?

SoSherry 12-04-2011 06:48 PM

Yes, the cards will get to her from the home address. My brother goes to see her everyday. Thanks Thanks Thanks!

Sarge 12-04-2011 06:49 PM

I didn't see your last post before I sent my last message - should I wait to send anything to her? Your brother must be beside himself with worry and frustration, maybe he could use a card also. Kay

SoSherry 12-04-2011 06:53 PM

No, go ahead and send it. The address is his home address so he will get the mail daily and take it to her. Yes, he is so stressed out. He just opened another restaurant this past month so he has been up to his ears in stress with that too. Plus having to be in the next town everyday to visit her...it's getting the best of him. I pray nothing happens to him. He has had one heart attack and melanoma so he has his health to worry about too.

SoSherry 12-22-2011 10:20 AM

UPDATE: Regina had her 7th hip replacement surgery about 2 weeks ago. We thought things were going well for awhile but they have turned for the worst. She is back in the hospital and doctors are finally jumping after my brother threatened to sue (and he will!). They have sent her to the best hospital to handle her case since she is beyond orthopedic help now with the infection. She will be having surgery #8 soon. It's really sad. Her body has been tortured with the surgery 7 times in one spot. Please keep my brother and Regina in your prayers. Cards are much appreciated too! She loves them!

Sarge 12-22-2011 07:50 PM

OMG, I hope your brother sues the pants off of the orthopedic doctors and the hospital that allowed this infection to begin!!! I'll send another card ASAP. I will also pray for a Christmas miracle for Regina and for her husband. Thanks for the update. Blessings also to you this Christmas season. Sincerely, Kay

Stamping Servant 12-23-2011 03:15 AM

Thank you, once again, for keeping us updated Sherry. I'll continue to hold Regina and your brother in prayer and will have another card out to her soon. My heart is heavy for them.

Update...REgina had her 8th surgery between xmas and New Year's Day. They had to take out all the metal parts on her leg and hip because the infection was everywhere. She has MRSA in the wound which is not good. They cleaned her out and put in lots of antibiotics in hopes of killing off the infection. They may have to go back in again to clean again. She will have to have everything put back in eventually. She is completely bed ridden. She is very depressed and a very sick lady. Please keep her in your prayers.

Sarge 01-08-2012 05:09 PM

I am so sorry your sister-in-law and brother are going through this terrible situation. MRSA has to be terrifying for all of you. I went back and looked through the messages and I couldn't find your brother's name anywhere. I'd like to send each of them a card and I don't know how to address him. Please let me know what his name is. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Sincerely, Kay

SoSherry 01-08-2012 05:25 PM

Kay, my brother's name is John Link. Yes, it is very very hard on him. I just pray nothing happens to him. Thanks for sending cards. They will truly appreciate them.

craftymomto2 01-08-2012 06:30 PM

Sherry, so sorry to hear this news. I'm planning a sending Regina a card each month until she gets better. Will keep her and your brother in my prayers.

I have made a card for Regina and it will go out in the mail tomorrow. I'm sure if she receives cards from strangers who care - it will put a smile on her face. I hope she is on the road to recovery - I will keep her in my prayers. She is so lucky to have you as a friend.
