My guess is that it wouldn't work for linking to challenges because members of the challenge teams wanting to leave comments would be unable to, unless they requested an invitation from you first. In the past when I was on a couple of challenge teams I don't ever remember encountering a link-up that was to a private blog. If I had, I'd certainly have passed it over as too much trouble. I imagine, but this is just a guess, that you'd be able to link the image with Inlinkz, but anyone clicking on would reach a "locked front door".
It would also be pointless in linking to your blog from a gallery upload here. I follow up a good number of links as a gallery mod when I'm looking for more information, and again I've never encountered a private one.
If you do go that way, I'd also suggest removing the link from your signature here...from personal experience I can tell you it's very frustrating to click on a link in a signature here only to get the "you have not been invited to view this blog" message. What is a link in a public forum if not an open invitation?
I presume you have good reasons for thinking of taking this step and the choice is yours.
