Okay, does anyone have any advice for me? I'm determined to get a blog up and running this year and I'm stuck on the very first step!
I'm trying to set up a blog and can't for the life of me find a decent name that isn't taken. Has anyone else run into this and have any suggestions?
I read that the blog title and address "should" be the same. Are yours and what are the pros and cons of using different ones? I'm thinking of putting my (unique) name in the address with a simple title. What do you think? Please help!

When I started my blog (3 years ago) there were not as many out there... so finding a unique name wasn't as difficult. What I did was think about what I wanted to 'blog' about and what made me different than others... I used to have people tell me that my work was distinctive... and that is where I got the name from... Distinctive Touches.
I strongly suggest that your blog name be the same as the blog address... that way it is MUCH easier for people to find you. (They would just need to google your blog name and would not necessarily need the exact address.)
Why not use something like your screen name here.. something like Ask it Again with Anjou (and then make one of your features a daily question or something...) or Askagain Art or something like that?
I don't know if this helped or not. Good luck finding just the right name... and make sure to let us know when you start up your blog.. I'd love to visit!

Hey, you are pretty close to me, as I am in Fairfax.
Blog title -- I think the ones that are not related to paper, ink, ribbon or stamping are the nicest! How about part of a quote, a book, or just a phrase you like?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to try to think outside the box... oooh now there's an idea.
Joan, where are you in Fairfax? I'm near Fairfax County Parkway and Dulles Toll Road!

my blog is thescrapmaster.blogspot.com but my blog is called "Scrapmaster's Paradise" they don't have to be the same at all. Just pick an easy to remember blog address (your name, a screenname, a small phrase you like) and then title your blog whatever you want. Good luck!

Mine is not the same because I changed my name after I started my blog. I just googled my blog name and it came up right away, so I am not sure that this is necessarily true. Having said that, I do kind of wish mine was the same, but I am sure not going to start over now!
Just a thought that blogger lets you pick multiple names as placeholders so you could play around with a couple of different names. It introduced new functionality that allows you to cross post to multiple blogs as well as export/import your blog posts (http://buzz.blogger.com/). This way you won't be stuck with something if it isn't working for you!
I'm subbing to this thread cuz my resolution(one of many)is to start a blog this year. Any suggestions were to start? I want to link my blog to my DBWS or incorporate that somehow too.
Hi, just checking in to let you know what I decided. After days and days of trying out names, I decided to just go with a simple blog address and then use the title that really appealed to me most. So, it's up and running.
I made my first few posts and think it looks pretty good for now. Still lots I need to do but I'd love suggestions and constructive criticism on what's there and what I can still add. The link is in my signature!
Thanks in advance!!!

Ok you got me fired up to get mine going again. I couldn't (and didn't) log in for a year and lost my original one. I just started a new one about a couple of hours ago.
Looks great! Very colorful. Just wondering, is it really difficult to get it up and running? About how long did it take you? Thanks.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think I worked on it off and on for most of the day.... but I've got two kids so it's a few minutes here and a few minutes there. The two longest things were deciding on a name (took forever) and then adjusting the type/headlines to work with the free background template. If you just start with a Blogger Minima background, you could be up and running in minutes (and then you can still import something fancier later!)
It's been a learning experience but I'm having a blast at it. Am already thinking of what to add tomorrow!

Oh, I've already been there a couple of times and have it bookmarked! Yea for you!
That's soo funny. I just left you a comment on the "Denise's Lotion" thread about how much I enjoyed yours! Too cool that we're starting on the same day. We should definitely be blogging buddies. (PS. I love the pic of your Lab... we had one and I still miss him to death!)

I just subscribed to this thread because I too want to start a Blog. Though I already have chosen a name....it relates to what I want to blog about...Just Crafting. It does not have to be just about that does it?
What I mean to ask is would it offend any one if occasionally I talk about the trials and tribulations I have with my disabled son? Would I be able to have like a sidebar or something that others who were only interested in crafts could skip over?
I guess what I am looking for is more info as to how to have a successful blog.
I'm not sure about what makes a successful blog -- I'm still trying to figure that part out.
For my opinion, if your blog is called "Just Crafting" i'd keep it to that and possibly run a different blog about your son. BUT, if you add a subheader to the name (like "Just Crafting... and a Few General Thoughts on Life") I absolutely would not mind at all reading about trials and tribulations.
My main thought is to deliver what your Title promises. I think that's all we can do and build up a following that way.
Not sure if that's helpful or not, good luck with your project!

I just launched my blog yesterday. I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. I had a contest with my customers. I asked them to submit names and I chose the one I liked best. The person whose title I picked won a $25 gift certificate.
I don't have a lot on there yet, but feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.

Wow Lisa! Great job! You have a wonderful design and lots of great tools. Contests are a great idea too to get your customers involved!
