Default Comments on blog

Does anyone else have a blog with lots of readers but relatively few comments? Is that a bad thing or a good thing? I see so many other blogs that have lots of comments and challenges that people participate in and upload their stuff here to SCS. I do so enjoy doing my blog; but sometimes do get a bit discouraged about the lack of reader participation.
What is a good way to get people really interested in being involved with your blog?
Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations.

I decided to just go by the # of hits and get over it cause it bugged me too! It has made me start commenting more myself.

i have the same "dilemma" -- and i have done what jana suggested and pay more attention to the "hits" and have made a personal challenge to comment on blogs that i look at ... and actually try to spend a few minutes whenever i am on scs to comment on some cards in the gallery. i have very few comments on my gallery and that seems to discourage me more than the blog

That's what I do too! I try to make comments myself...knowing how happy it makes me. Before I did my stamping blog, when I had just started my family blog, my friend told me...always make lots of comments on other blogs. It makes people feel popular. So I try to do that as well and not worry about mine so much. As long as people look...that's good, right?!

Hello everyone! I've done two things to help comments on my blog. I jump on the blog comment thread now and then. I try to leave a comment if someone leaves one on mine. Oh, and one more...I offer blog candy now and then. Readers love to get goodies and it doesn't have to be big and expensive (a roll of ribbon, an altered item...). Not sure if this helps. I don't have a ton of comments but when I offer candy my hits don't go up but my comments do...so I guess bribing does work !

I agree it is discouraging. I usually leave a comment if I visit especially if I am inspired by something I see. I have even joined in on the blog comment thread and not received comments. Sometimes I feel like I am in high school again trying to break into the elite club-Ugh!!

By the way I am visiting everyone's blog-if you posted a link and I will leave you a nice comment!!

Okay, I tried to go back an leave comments on everyone's blog too. However Some of the blogger accounts require I have a blogger/google id and password. My blog is typepad...and when browsing blogs I wouldn't take the time to get and id and password just to leave a comment.
Is there away to change that setting? It might help people leave comments more easily.
Just a thought.
I've enjoyed looking at everyone's blog! Have a great weekend.

It is up to the blog author to set security for comments. Blogger now offers a feature called Open ID where the commenter can use their user name and password from other internet sites to comment. It can also be set to allow anonymous comments so that commenters don't have to log in at all.

You are right. A lot of Blogs require a lot and most people will not take the time to type the code or get an account. I need to look at what I ask for now (: When we set this stuff up it's not like we get a feel for how hard or easy it is for people to leave comments. I do type out the code and enter my Id and password on the BLogs I really enjoy. Maybe this is the reason (:

I have the security verification set up on mine just because I had someone post a spam message on my blog. Some people enable moderation, but I found that to be cumbersome. Once I sign in to Blogger for my blog or to post on someone else's, I'm signed in for the rest of my time online. One thing I like about Typepad blogs is that I can check the box to have it remember me later.

I do not have a blog - but have a lot of blogs saved into my favorites. Just keeping up with reading them on a daily basis is hard - let alone leaving comments. If I have a lot of time I will sit at the computer and leave a comment for everyone - but really that is rare.

One way to keep readers reaading is to update you blog everyday... I know for me at least - the people who don't update on a regular basis lose my interest. Not that anyone really cares if I read their blog or not - but I thought maybe a non-blogger's opinion might be useful! LOL! Now to check out all you blogs!
