Default Is blogging worth it?

Hi all. I'm new to SCS but not crafting. I'd love to set up a blog so I can join in with some of challenge blogs but I know a lot of friends have had problems with their stuff being copied.
Is blogger better than wordpress? I was just gonna set up a gallery on here but not sure.
Any suggestions?

YES! Blogging is so worth it. If your worried about your cards being copied, watermark your photos. PicMarkr is a great one for doing it online

I think blogging is worth it, and I agree about adding a watermark. You can find threads about that on here by doing a search.

I agree you need to watermark, pictures can get stolen everywhere on the internet. I love blogging and have met a ton of great people from blogging.

I'm new to all of this, too. It dawned on me that I should "watermark" my pix and cards on my blog. Anybody have any suggestions of what should be included in the watermark?

I include my name and blog address. You may also want to include the name of the stamp company. If you are using Stampin' Up stamps, they require that.

Hi Willow!

There is a code you can put at the bottom of your blog where people can't copy anything from your blog. It is really easy to add and works!

I can recommend wordpress. It is a great piece of software rich with possibilities if you are into webdesign and if you're not then its totally simple to use.

Blogging is fun. Dont let picture stealing scare you.

I love blogging! Honestly I don't really see the big deal if people copy anything I make. It's not a big deal to me. I will sahre the comanies that made the paper and stuff I use and give instructions on how to make things like mine. I helped a lady copy one of my altered books years ago for her to submit to be published. LOL I like to share my stuff.

You could just not put up anything you really don't want copied. You could jsut blog your challenges. You could try to find the no right click code or just watermark your stuff. Blogging is super though!! I use blogger.com and I love it.

I do LOVE my blogging - I forgot to actually say that bit in my earlier posts! lol

Papercraft keeps me sane (lol) and I love to share it with others! I guess the stealing of pics bugs me when people put pictures on their blog claiming it as their own and they aren't! That just doesn't seem fair to me! And it does happen, not often though!

But all in all, I mostly love blogging because I've made some wonderful friends and it keeps me motivated to make more stuff! When I didnt have my blog I could go months without touching a stamp! Now days, if I so much as go for a few days with no updates, I usually get an email or 2 asking "are you ok"! lol

I say go for it - it's so much fun!

I've only been blogging for about 2 months now but I like it. I think it motivates me to do more. You start wanting to put something new on your blog and ya gotta be creating to do that, so for that reason alone I like it. I use blogger which is super easy!

Completely agree.

I understand that others dont though. But a small warning. If you really dont want anything copied then dont use the internet. No matter what code snippet or what you do, if someone wants to copy they can always find a way around.

Blogging has really helped me move forwards with my crafting, you just can't fail to be motivated and inspired by some of the many gorgeous crafters out there in blogland.

I think deep down people have a need for praise, or at least respond very well to it, and a blog is the perfect tool for this.

There are always going to be people out there who will copy, which is sad really. They do say that immitation is a form of flattery, but when people copy your designs in every detail and profit from them, thats when it gets to me.

Blogger is so easy to set up now, well worth it in my opinion.

Calv.

I so agree with this. I am flattered when people copy my ideas! Personally I love to be inspired by the wonderful work I see on craft blogs, but I like to change the projects to allow my own creativity to come through.

Blogging is great fun, and the feedback from other crafters makes it a lovely way to share your projects.

I have to agree with all that have posted. I just started My blog last month and find that because of it I am taking the time to create. Before it was just ok if I get a chance I might make something . Now I have challenged myself to do some new project each week to post.
I use Blogger.com and google has a picture editing program than you can use to mark your photos. You can then just upload from there right to your blog.

Ha, I'm not new to SCS or to crafting but I am totally new to blogging. I love reading other peoples blogs, but creating one of my own was always one of those things I planned to do when I got one of those round tuits... which I got for Christmas All those challenge blogs are what finally sucked me in and although I've only done one challenge I can see why they are so popular. Now I need all the help I can get to make my blog as fun a place to hang out as all the peeps I have on the blog roll.

Constructive criticism welcome... let me know what you think!

I was an avid blogger before I started stamping, and now I enjoy both, even together. The beauty of blogging is sharing your work, and seeing others' work.

My suggestion would be to put up a Creative Commons licence (http://creativecommons.org/) on your website. There's a variety of them, and instead of being "All rights reserved," it's "some rights reserved. Which frees up your work a bit to be shared and modified, basically as long as others give you credit for the work you did.

As far as platforms, my favorite free blogging platform is Blogger. It's easy, simple, and fairly customizable. That said, I prefer using WordPress myself. There's wordpress.com, which offers free blogs, but that platform is very limited and you can't customize your blog theme very easily (i.e. basic look and feel, and even fonts used in the blog entries), though you can pay a small fee and get more flexibility. I use wordpress.org, though, because I bought a domain and pay for hosting fees. Wordpress.org is a powerhouse, and I basically do my own web design for each of my four websites.

You're welcome to stop by my partner's and my newly live website. I just finished designing it and getting it up over the weekend.

Stamping Over the Rainbow

Good luck and happy blogging!
