3 Column for Blogs

I hope someone can help me before I go crazy. I have been trying to get my blog into a format to display a "3 column template" instead of just the normal #2 column template. I had actually had the template showing the 3rd column, but I couldn't get any of the WIDGETS to go to the left of the screen. Does anyone know what I am talking about? In the Layout section of the template, it shows my columns...but how do you add the widgets because I dont see any "gadgets" area where you drag the box. Is there something I'm missing while formatting?

What 3 Column template website do you recommend that is FREE and I really don't want to mess with Photoshop.

For instance, I had every ready for setting up my 3rd column with the background and everything...The layout displayed it correctly, all except the "Gadgets" area. I think I am missing something in programming this area.

Please help me because I am getting too many headaches trying to figure it out. Since then, I converted my blog back to the 2 column.

The blog is displayed under my signature is not the blog I am working on. Some weirdo was following me, so that is why I have to create a whole new blog.
