Ugh. Typepad recently changed software and based on my experience and what I am reading on other typepad blogs, there are too many kinks that must be worked out. My computer freezes half way through most posts and I have to start all over again, plus other issues..
So, if you are thinking of switching or starting a blog with typepad, I recommend you wait.

They didn't switch the interface on mine yet, Joan--It's actually a pretty slick one WHEN IT IS WORKING!
But, holy carp!!! They need to fix those bugs and FAST. When it comes to free, I would never make any demands, but, when I'm paying for it, it is really frustrating to have this going on.

yup, I hear ya Joan! Whenever my cursor got stuck at the bottom right of an uploaded picture my computer would have to totally reboot my internet connection. I've figured out what to be careful about now, but in the beginning it was very frustrating. Plus, I got a message that I was using to much bandwidth and had to upgrade my account and I'm not even using any more photos or doing more posts than I usually do???

Did they switch you over to the new interface, Tracy?
I can't figure out why some were and others, like mine, not.
Of course, at this point, I should probably be grateful mine wasn't.

Julie, I got this email from Typepad and signed up to give it a try. Joan, did you get one of these emails or did yours just switch over automatically?
We are adding members to our TypePad Beta tester group, and we’d like
to extend an invitation to you to join.
As a member of the Beta team you’ll get a first look at what’s new
with the service and have a chance to weigh in on features before they
go live to all users. Early feedback from Beta team members helps us
make improvements and fixes before we release changes to everyone.
Since you’ll be accessing a preview version of TypePad, you may see
something not quite right with the service now and then. If this
happens, just let us know by filing a help ticket (please put “Beta”
in the subject line) and we’ll work on setting things right.

Yes, and I'm not sure if you were to sign up with Typepad now if you would start with the new interface or the old??? It's all kind of confusing and it seems like the kinks are pretty significant. Maybe they should have started out with a much smaller group to figure everything out because no one seems to really understand what's going on.
I didn't get an invitation, just boom! new software. I've always liked Typepad, but I've wasted a lot of time over the past few weeks due to frozen screens, etc. I believe that Typepad is aware of the issues.
I hate to move by blog to a new address, so I'm giving them a few months to get this straightened out!

Ugh. Yeah, that would totally suck (moving over 2 years worth of blog crap??? Yikes!).
For the most part, I really love Typepad features better than the other services I've seen out there . . .

My interface just changed without me doing anything. The only problem Ive had is with the spell check. It froze on me and I lost a post that I had been working on for a long time. It really upset me and I had to walk away from the computer! lol
Do you subscribe via Google Reader? I wonder if viewing it that way causes any problems, as opposed to visiting directly?
I have full feed on; you can't leave a comment via Reader, but, at least you might be able to view content without your computer locking up?
No Reader here. I just have the site bookmarked on my favorites in Explorer. I redid the bookmark and got to it a few times--it was just teasing me into thinking I fixed the problem--then it locked up on my again. So sad....
I'm in great company! Hi ladies...yep, mine just changed over. No message. I have it hang up with spell check (bad jugu... since I'm a terrible speller). I've lost articles (because I forgot to title them!), had problems with scheduling a post, plus lots of other little thingys.
I like some of the changes, but others....oh boy! frustrating. I'm sure they'll fix them. Over all I've been very happy with Typepad...so I'll stick it out

Susan I found out what was causing this problem and eliminated it from my blog(s). It was a widget.
It should be OK now! So sorry about that.

Yay! Vacationing right now but will be sure to see what you've been up to when I get back to my own computer!
What in the world is a widget?
A widget is like a little tiny sub-program that you can put in your blog to do something; sometimes they run in the bottom of your post (which is what the "Share" widget was supposd to do), or you can put 'em in your blog's side rail--depends on what the widget's purpose is.
The "Share" one I had was supposed to enable readers to easily "share" a post they may have found particularly interesting with others by clicking on a little "share" icon at the bottom the post. But, I found out it was a rogue widget and wreaking all kinds of havoc on people 'putahs, so, I terminated it.

Are the problems with TypePad or with the browsers? I use a Mac with Firefox and I haven't encountered any problems. This is the first I've heard of people having difficulty with TypePad. Just wondering.
The problem is with Typepad. I have a Mac and use firefox. I am one of the lucky ducks that typepad is using to experiment with its new software. They are aware of the problems. I just got an email telling me how many of the bugs have been fixed.
NOT!! LOL
Anyway, I hope they continue to work through the kinks, as I can see that more font size choices, etc. will be fun. However, in the meantime, it is a disaster. Just save what you are doing every 10 seconds...

GRRRRRR...I've been having problems for about a month now when they switched me to the new interface. I did receive an e-mail about the upgrade (they didn't give me a choice, they just said that I was being switched to the new interface) and I thought, "Wow, cool. I've been selected as one of the testers." Ha, I wish they hadn't selected me. Whenever I'm typing a new post, the screen suddenly freezes and if I keep typing, the words show up about a minute later. Of course then I have to go back and correct any typos and that takes even more time. It's very frustrating. They actually gave me one month free which is cool but I just want it to be fixed. I also have problems when I insert photos. Sometimes the right edge is cut off or if you click on the photo in the post, it's huge; bigger than the computer screen.
OK, enough of my rambling. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is having trouble but I just wish they'd fix it. If they can't, then I think they should switch us back to the old interface until the issues are resolved.
I was having problems with the computer freezing up after I inserted my picture. I would then hit "return" to enter the text and it would freeze up, then close explorer. It was also freezing during spell check. I found I had to "save" the post after each different step so that I would not have to start all over again!
I have switched to blogspot.com and I am much happier and it is free!
But I do have a question - is there a way to transfer all the posts from typepad to blogspot.com?
I hope there is because I don't want to lose 2 years worth of posts and I don't want to keep paying the monthly fee ($8.95) just to keep the account.

Oh gosh - I was just at a typepad blog and my computer froze up... I had to reboot... gosh I feel for all you typepad bloggers - such a pity here... I design websites for a living and I will not let software go into the "real" world until it is relativly defect free... something tells me the typepad folks have issues with quality assurance...
Hmm...I don't think I'm a part of their beta testing group, but I noticed the interface changed about a month or so ago. Personally, I'm loving it!!! I used to have tons of problems with the older interface - it would take 10 tries to get a picture to post. Now I don't have any issues at all! I have noticed it hang when I do spell-check.
I do miss the e-mail link button. But, it's easy to make an e-mail link. I just think it's sad when they take away functionality.
I have a TypePad blog and a Blogspot blog - I tell everyone to go to TypePad. It's worth every cent!
I do have issues when visiting some TypePad blogs, but the issues seem to be related to those silly widgets.
Joan, that totally bites!! I had Typepad for a few months and then switched back to blogger because it wasn't as user friendly for me. Hope you get it worked out soon!
Whoa! I am a little speechless! I actually just switched from Blogger to Typepad and like it much better. I don't know if I'm on the new interface or not...how can I tell?
I haven't had any hangups. Occassionally my mouse hangs up when I want to type but it is only for a few seconds. Nothing too annoying. My biggest mistake was deleting my old blog and not being able to move it over. I have all the feeds so I am going to occassionally relist them when I have nothing new to post.

I'm stickin' with Typepad because I really do like it (I'm still on the old interface); I think they'll get the kinks worked out. It's like anything--you have to have people using and testing it, in order to find all the bugs to fix, UKWIM? ;)

phew I thought it was my Mac and Firefox freezing me up, good thing I looked here to find it's not my problem. this time.
and I won't use blogspot, cause as John SanPietro told us, there is a blog surf feature and with one click from your blog, someone could land on a xxx rated blog and have a very stinky opinion of you after that, thinking you linked them there if they are not compu-savvy.

When they switched me over it took almost a month for them to get my blog running smoothly again. BUT they did have great customer service and were very helpful with this computer illiterate blogger.
Now everything runs like a dream!
Update: my typepad has less problems than before, but still the occasional freeze -- almost always in connection with loading a picture. Maybe typepad hates my cards!! LOL
But, I still love writing in my little blog. According to Newsweek, blogging is the new therapy. Got to love the price!!

After the beta test, I think typepad started rolling out there new "compose" editor .... they just automatically roll you in. But, nobody there seem to know when/where they will convert me over. Hello?????
I haven't been "upgraded" yet, and yep - there are some times it hangs. I usually don't have troubles with it freezing, but I have a ton of trouble with the fonts ... for some reason some of my blog posts do funky things - different colors, different sizes. And once it gets it in its mind, it does it no matter what. I usually at that point save my post, come back a day later and then fix it with no problems.
Typepad now has two compose versions for me -- a simple one (no font changes, etc.) and the more complicated one. Typepad acknowledges that they are having issues with the more complicated one.
Frankly, the simple one has some issues as well although uploading a photo is now a bit easier.
I am confident that Typepad will resolve these issues. It appears to be a very customer oriented company and knows that it is competing against the free blogger!

So would you recommend it for a newbie now? I know you previously posted to wait until the kinks have worked out? I've procrastinated so long on the whole blog thing that you would think a few more weeks wouldn't kill me, but as well as being the queen of procrastinators I am also the queen of impatience and once I finally make up my mind, I tend to want it now!
I did some research and had settled on Typepad - should I rethink?
I'd say go with typepad ... they offer many different price levels, you can take the "Free" trial and always upgrade to a different price level (if you need more functionality) OR dump it and go to something else.
I am a typepad user (too!). I like it and am trying to ride out the little bumps. There was a message posted the other day on typepad - which makes me think most folks are experiencing the same types of issues we are, but they seem dedicated to working through them!

Thanks for the encouragement and BTW, I just checked out your blog and twitter seems to be working just fine (I know, that's a whole different thread but what the heck? Let's live dangerously )

Go for it; the first month is free, so you have nothing to lose, if you're unhappy, no matter which editor they assign to your blog when you start. ;)
I'm still on the old editor and have had few to no problems.
