Default how to add my new watermark

I am so sorry because I am sure this has been asking a MILLION times. But here is the scoop:
I won a free watermark from a blog, and the woman made it for me, but I don't know how to add it. I had gimp on my computer. (I have never used it) I have heard that it will work but I am not sure how to apply it to my photo's and if it needs to be a certain format/file or something. Can anyone help? Thank you soooooooo much!

The way I do mine is to open the photo in GIMP, add a new layer, then paste in the watermark and save the photo. HTH!

GIMP is a free photo editing software. It's at www.gimp.org.
