Default Hi!

Hello- I stopped by a few days ago, but could not type easily on my phone, so gave up!

We had a little excitement this past week. Mom had a rapid irregular heart rate. She was admitted t the hospital and was there until Friday. She was started on a new med that flips your rhythm into a normal rhythm. After the 3rd dose- yeah! She converted! The irregular rhythm has a stroke risk associated with it. I stayed at the hospital for the three days she was in - so nice to be home in my own bed!

My eldest brother from Ky had previously planned on visiting Friday-Sunday to see Mom. So, they came up and stayed in a hotel knowing Mom was not going to be too energetic to go running around. They also asked me to be with her all of the time- cause I know what to do if her heart acts up..... We mostly played board games- Farkle and Bingo. Also went to Panera to eat.

We did not go anywhere on Black Friday in terms of shopping, but I did order dies from DieVersions at 70% off. I have some Secret Santa swaps and they will be perfect for that.

All of your gatherings sound divine! I did go to my sisters for a Thanksgiving celebration the Sunday before Thanksgiving- so did not miss out on the festivities. My brother was here from Mass., so it was extra special- he stayed here for a few days.

So, today we are going to try to be creative up in my crafty room. I started commenting on blogs last night- need to learn to do that on my phone. I am almost done, but so hard when you miss a week- so much to see on blogs!

After my brother and family headed home yesterday, we got the Christmas tree up and outdoor decorations up and the lights working : )
Also, the Nativity set (my Dad made for us) is up and the light is on it.

Glad to hear you are all well- Jeanette-glad headache is better. Lynn, I have been watching the battery story- so glad it has come in! Kelly- glad your Friday shopping went well- and no lines- I wonder how much shopping was online this year. Susan- so nice to have family so close!

My Mom saw an elf on the shelf and asked me about it. I showed her the many things you can do with them on Pintrest....what a hoot! WHat are selfies with the elf? That is a new one to me......

Happy Monday to all!

Shelly

Selfie Elfie? Going to have to look that up! Haven't heard of it. We got our granddaughter and elf when she was younger maybe 2? She too wasn't very original she named it Snowflake. Of course that is also the names of most of her dolls and stuffed animals. When her brother was born she said he needed his own elf. So we found just an ordinary elf which resembles the ones my mom had on our tree back in the 50's and 60's. She named him Phillip because baby brother was too little to name it. Now this year baby sister was born and I jumped the gun and got her an elf from Michaels that resembles Phillip. All 3 elves showed up at their house over the weekend and of course the eldest granddaughter named it for baby sister...Bubbles. The kids love all the antics and my DIL shares ideas with other moms at the school she works at.Had to laugh....my son 37 still will not admit theres no Santa. He told me once when about 10 yrs old that a friend said there was no Santa. I told him if he believes in his heart that he exsist then he does and he said heck mom I'm no fool...I still want presents.....i said Yep me too! And it was never mentioned again. To this day we still have the blown out Christmas...socks and all! lol
Lynn can't wait to see your tree!!!!!!

I love collecting all the fun Elf on a Shelf shenanigans on Pinterest. Sounds like I need to look into Selfie Elfie.

Shelly, I am saddened to hear of your mother's health issues. Hopefully her new medication will keep her heart on track.

Shelly, I had caught wind of some of what was happening with your mom. So glad she's doing better now and home again! You must be relieved! And WOW! You've sure accomplished a lot in the time you've had.

Susan, you DS is a smart fellow - I want the presents, too!

Lynn, yes, you do!

Good morning all!

I finished two pair of crocheted boot cuffs yesterday for granddaughter #2. Did one in her school colors. Today I may make a pair for myself. They are so quick and fun!

I also need to get cracking on having photos printed for the family Christmas scrapbook. Lucky for me, Walgreens always runs great photo sales this time of year.

No pattern, Susan. I am just making them up as I go.

I have currently made three like this:

Chain 20 then chain 1 and turn.

Do a double half crochet in each chain the chain 1 and turn

Continue the double half crochets until the piece fits snuggly around the mid calf.

Chain 3 and turn.

Make a row of double crochet across the top.

Chain 3 and put 3 DC 3 Chain 3 DC in every third DC hole across the top.

Then slip stitch the ends together and add decorative buttons if you like.

I made the white pair a little taller than the green.

Good morning, Jeanette! I am off to check out your Christmas thread.

Woot for Friday!

Lynn, the crochet boot cuffs are SPLENDID!! And in your dgd school colors - you are the best ♥ They are a delight, and to think they are an original, no pattern - even better! I do hope you make one for yourself, too

Tomorrow my baby girl turns 18! It's hard to believe, but she's an official adult I'm so proud of her - she's been through A LOT ... especially medically. She is a true miracle and a gift each day

Happy weekend, all!

Thanks, Susan. I am having fun with my limited crochet skills.

The white ones are for me, Kelly! I had planned to wear them today out shopping but I sewed the buttons on one of them in the wrong place. I don't know if I will take the time to rip them off and reattach for today's outing.

With your daughter's birthday falling on a Saturday, you should have lots of time for celebration! May as well go ahead and celebrate all weekend!!

Lynn - I'm sure your boot cuffs will be fabulous, whenever you wear them! They are just darling. I just showed my daughter (who quilts and crochets) and she said "OHHH!" thumbs up!

DD18 has a chorus concert (school requirement, worth 15 grades!) tomorrow on her birthday, so we are making up for it tonight and Sunday. Every year, at least one of my 3 girls get jilted out of their actual birthday DAY because of a school/church/other event - lol! At least one of them lands on a scheduled performance or activity ....... we've gotten use to it after 21 years *grin*

Not sure if Lynn has caught the threat joke! LOL If I thought you were threatning Jeanette I'd move out of Illinois to get far far away! heeheeheeHave a great evening....Its Dickens in Dundee here tonight. The Grandkids can't wait to go see all the living windows and Santa of course. I'm sure a carriage ride will also be done. We need to bundle up though cuz it's a bit "Nippy" out there!

Found and disarmed the threat!

That carriage ride sounds like fun. Rain, rain, big rain is coming our way tonight and throughout the weekend.

Finished another pair of boot cuffs seen here:

Good Morning Inky Friends!

Lynn, I'm glad you are no longer threatening me and are focusing on making gorgeous boot cuffs instead. WOW!

Susan, LOL! Loved your post. I sure wish I could have a carriage ride... and see those live window scenes.

FYI - today is a busy day (errands, wedding, Christmas parade, packing) and I'm heading to Chicago bright and early tomorrow morning (to go to a women's live audience thing - not really sure what it is, but I'm going at the request of our state Exec) and will travel home on Monday... so you probably won't see me again until Tuesday. Have a GREAT weekend!!!

Jeanette safe travels into the city. Snow is suppose to be coming in sometime Sunday. I know I'm in the 2.5 range being Northwest of Chicago not sure what the city is getting. Hopefully it will all be melted by the time you come home on monday . Baking here to begin in an hour so I better get off the computer and get ready for guest.

Oh snow, my love, my one wish list item every year!

Today is my 3rd child (and 3rd December daughter)'s 18th birthday - can't believe it! She is a breathing and walking testiment to God's true miracles! She was given back to us after a near fatal accident and I just know God has plans in store for her ♥

Wishing everyone a happy weekend! Stay safe out there x0x0

Shelly...safe travels to TX.
Well my lovely group of ladies and I got together for our brunch yesterday during the snowstorm! We recieved about 7" by the time it was finished. The drive home was beautiful though. I lived near the Fox river in a heavily wooded area so there is nothing but pure beauty here. When I pulled onto our street I had to pull over and take this shot from the windshield.
Not too bad from the window. And it was sooo quiet out there. It was about 2pm when I took this. Sending this your way Kelly!
Its Monday night Dinner tonight. We do this every week where the Kids come over with the grandkids for dinner. We originally were going to do it on Sundays like most familys but we decided to let the kids have the weekends to themselves since they work and picked Monday for our family dinner. They have to come here anyway since we watch the kids while they are at work so it works out great.
Enjoy you day everyone.

Good Morning Inky Friends!

Shelly and Susan, your pictures are BEAUTIFUL!!! But I will say that Hot Sauce and I did not like driving in that wet heavy snow. And what's with this... my entire trip to Chicago, I saw only TWO snowplows. Cars in the ditches over and over again... but the state wasn't working the interstate, which is very unusual for Illinois. But the good news is Hot Sauce and I avoided the ditches.

Kelly, I am always in awe of your family - and this DD's miracle story is amazing! Glad you had a birthday to celebrate. (I would have sent a gift of SNOW if I could have.)

Well... today is the day! I'm going to the office to put up and decorate the 7' revolving tree... then the decorating will be finished. We now have 38 registered to attend the Christmas Party/Dinner on Saturday - yep, I'm still doing most of the cooking... and getting quite nervous about it. I don't even know how much food it will take to feed that many people. Yikes! The fruit salad is the one that is really stumping me. DH's dad always made fruit salad at Christmas so we've decided that has to be on our Pastor's Dinner menu... but how many fresh (apples, oranges, grapes) and canned (pears, peaches) does one need for 38 people??!?!? Oh... and I need to ask DH if the 38 includes the three of us or if it's really 41? EEK!!!

I'm also putting together the favors this week - making little sour cream containers with chocolate kisses in them.

It's going to be a busy week.

What's everybody else up to???

oooooooooooo Leaving a trail of friendly (((HUGS)))

Jeanette...yes it is unusal for Illinois to not have an entire fleet out on expressways. I think most of them were pretty sure we would not get the 6+ inchs and thought the roads were warm enough for nothing to stick.....then all heck opened and the snow just kept coming. Then all those plows had to hit hazard spots first. Hills, sharp turns, etc. My son works for the town of Algonquin as a forester but in the winter he plows for the village. He said it was a mess but what was worse was the fact that some officiers told him some stories of people they found in ditchs who told them they accidently swerved because the streets should have been fine and they had shopping they needed to get done. Good excuse? lolWell Im glad you made it home safely!
Im not sure about fruit...but I know when I make it for our Christmas and we have around 27, I use 4 apples, 2 large containers of blueberries, 3 large containers of strawberries,, 2 small containers raspberries, 2 small containers black berries, and 1 pineapple. There is usuall nearly none left. I keep saying I have it down to a science because nothing worse than leftover fruit that goes limp! hahaha
Good luck.
Today Im planning crafts for grandkids sleepover friday night! Ought to be fun.
Enjoy making those sour cream boxes! Love those! Maybe we will do those too and make them into ornaments!

Thanks Susan... for your encouragement and suggested quantities! I appreciate it!!! And yes, I think the snow storm sort of surprised our state maintainers. It was 32 degrees most of my trip, according to Hot Sauce, anyway... but it definitely WAS sticking to the roads. Yikes! And visibility was horrendous.
