SU! Layoffs
I just read on Shelli's blog that Stampin' Up is having to lay off employees. Nobody is immune from this economy. Here's the link: http://www.soshelli.com/

Not surprised in a way.
What I don't understand, is places even other places, not just su, is giving bonuses and such, knowing they are going to do layoffs or whatever. Just like su giving a Hawaii cruise to people who have done well. I agree they may need some incentive, but why do the all out, when the co. is down some. A Hawaiian cruise is expensive.

probably because they were promised this and they need to follow thru....perhaps this will be the last of the "big trips"

Plus, I imagine these types of trips are arranged far, far in advance, and certainly already paid for. Cancellation at this point wouldn't really save anything. I think, too, that this type of incentive likely adds brings in more sales volume, enough to more than compensate for the cost of the trip.
I guess I see these kinds of incentives, that are based on concrete sales figures, as being different than the "atta boy" trips given for the mere fact of having an upper management title...

I agree Betsy, these trips are earned not given and therefore not in the same category. SU! might be scaling back but I have full confidence in spending my hard earned cash there. I love their stamps and their color matching with inks, papers, ribbon etc. and will continue to do my part to boost company sales!!!

I feel so badly for anyone who is laid off, but particularly "our friends" in the stamping world.

That stinks that they have to let some people go. On a positive note, I've read that they are in ok shape because they do not have a lot of debt.

We all need to keep up our part of the whole deal - if we don't spend, there have to be cuts. I for one am all for doing my share to help out those in the stamping industry! LSS and SU!!

Not to mention that SU! isn't in line asking for bailout $$ from Washington like the big banks and securities firms -- they operate debt-free. They're rewarding achievement and productivity, not taking investors' cash and running the company into the ground through irresponsible business practices.

I'm just curious how many Demo's will be dropping after this month? That will only add to the strain

April is the "pending" month for anyone who didn't make quota for the first quarter, so unless they formally contact SU! to resign no one will be dropping next week.

Plus, there have been a "ton" of people signing up to be demos during Sale-a-Bration, with all the deals and extra goodies going on.

While I'm sad to hear that SU! has to do layoffs...I'm glad they are debt free and the company will be OK. If the economy picks up maybe they can rehire those people.
I will be doing my part and spending at least $50 with SU! this month.
