I'm still not sure what to think. He came home from a meeting with a recruiter with stickers for our vehicles. He's joined the reserves. He'll be leaving for boot camp in Nov. I'm very proud he's decided to serve his country, but my family's history is with other branches (Dad's retired Navy & Brother is retired Air Force)so I have little knowledge of this branch.
Any other Marine Mom's out there?

I supported the Marines at Camp Fallujah Iraq for almost two years (been back almost 2 months). I really admire the Marines! They really took care of me while I was out there. Very respectable to me and very protective of me as well. Their philosophy is to do more with less. Tell your son OORAH and thanks so much for his commitment
Congratulations to you and your son. Your son is awesome for taking on the military. Marines are cool. My best friend is a marine. Also, I have a kid that I used to babysit growing up is a marine as well. Is there anything specific that you would like to know. I could try to find out for you.
Congrats! My DH is a marine and made it a career out of it..He has been in there for 27 years...enlisted when he was 16 1/2...still in...
We are proud of him for serving our country.

Congrats! My DH is also a marine. They are a very respectable and admirable branch. It should make you feel better to know that they take the no man left behind idea very seriously. My husbands LT. risked his life to save my DH from a IED. Their training is VERY rigorous and although it is a lot and you wont see much of him before a deployment you can be assured that the training is thorough and adequately prepares him! (which IMHO is worth the time apart!) SO welcome aboard marine mom!
My son is a Marine. He joined a bit later than most (he was 23) and has been in for a little over two years. He went through Basic in San Diego, CA, Military Police School in Fort Leonardwood, MO, Working Dog Handler School in San Antonio, TX and is stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. He currently is in Iraq on his second tour of duty with his K9 (hence my name), Bodie. I am very proud of him and and all the other young men and women in the military. I firmly believe they are the best of the best (the Marines). When I visited NC before he left, I had the privilege to spend a couple days with him and his friends. I'll have to say, I was very impressed by this fine group of men. I hope and pray for their safe return.
I am in my 21st year of being a Marine. Although your son has a tough road ahead with the training and whatever comes after, it is well worth the pride and honor of being a Marine. Nothing will be handed to him, he has to earn it. With your 100% support and his determination to finish what he has started will get him far. Congratulations to him for making such a big decision and welcome to our family!
Thank you to your fine son for serving our country and thanks to you too for your sacrifice. Marines are the best! My DH served as a Marine many years ago but I can tell you this: Once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine! OORAH! (Oh and never forget to tell your son Happy Birthday on Nov 10th every year! That's the Marine Corp birthday!)
I'm not a Marine mom, but I want to say thanks to him for wanting to serve and protect his country, and thanks to you for raising a boy who is willing to do so.

Hi,
Welcome to the Marine mom club! My only child has been a Marine for three years. He is currently in Japan for another month. He went into boot camp at Paris Island a teenager and came out a respectable young man. He also didn't tell me he'd joined until after he already took his oath. It's hard not to hear their voice for the 12 weeks in boot camp.
good luck !
That is terrific! You must be so proud of your son. It takes a special person, and special parents, to have the desire to be a marine. He is a special guy!

My son has been in the reserves for 5 years. He is in for another year but just put in papers. He is rejoining active. (I don't know the wording for active all of the time. I should know that. *rolls eyes*) He loves being in the USMC.
You can pm any questions. I will be happy to answer.

First, your on is a hero from here forward! As a proud AMERICAN, all I can say is thank you for your son's dedication, devotion and service to our nation. Right now, with the disention in our nation on the war, it may feel awkward or defensive for you but please know that there are millions upon millions supporting our nation, our government and most importantly, our military for their unbelievable commitment to the good ole USofA!!! I am so proud to be an American and your son's unselfish commitment to our nation only reaffirms my belief that we live in the greatest nation on Earth! (I was going to apologize to our fellow SCS's from other countries, but I am proud of my country --- as should we all be, whether Americans or other nationalties! We should all take enormous pride in our heritage and of who we are! Again, no matter where that is! Stand tall & be proud!!)
Sorry for the cheerleading session, but it is long overdue!!!

Semper Fi....we in Pensacola love our service members, Marines, Navy, Army and Air Force. We see Marines, and their fellow service, wearing their uniforms in the Malls with such great pride or on the streets to washing cars to support the Marine Corps ball. We welcome your son to the service of our great country....thanks to your other family members in their service. Thank you for sharing your son with our country!
Faithful's son is at MCRD in boot camp right now, I believe. My DH has been in for 23 years and still going. Congrats!
My son is at MCRD right now also! He went in on June 24th!. I'm so proud of him. My FIL and BIL are both retired Marines and DH is retired Navy.
