Default I am going to be busy!!!

Today I had my sons boss come over and she and I went through all my Christmas cards to see which ones she likes for her clients and people she knows and now I will be making 355 cards for her !!!!!December 1st is the deadline, also she wants me to make some tags for wine bottles using her companies colors!!! I can't wait to get started and she is going to pay for all the paper and supplies .so now I need to figure out how much my time is worth.Anyone else out there venture into this type of project? any advice?

WOW!!!! That's a ton of cards. Good luck and Congrats! I can't say I've ever taken on that kind of task. Break it down into steps and focus on maybe one or two a night, depending on the step.

Have fun with it!!!

Congratulations! and good luck!
I would make sure to get new fresh ink pads AND REINKERS for that much production work. You don't want to run out at a critical moment. same for your adhesive(s) of choice and ep if you are embossing.

have fun!

First off Congrats!

I would really think about charging for all the supplies up front and quoting a price per card for labor, so it won't be a shock later. Especially since that many items is going to take quit a bit of time. I know I start to get a little nutso after only making a dozen of one card.

Good luck and congrats again!

Congrats Tinkadude,
Thats a Great order!! Are the cards pretty complicated and is their going to be alot of the same style. I know I sell my cards for $3.50 to $5. each, but if your doing alot of the same style you might want to cut her a break You could also enlist help from your family and friends ,have a card making party ,assembly style, would really cut down on your time.
I,m helping a womens group next Saturday to make cards for an upcoming Christmas bazarr. So we will be able to get alot done in a short amount of time. Good Luck.

Wow that is so awesome. It will be a big job and I hope you make some good $$$ on it. This is my second year supplying two of the local swim teams with cards to sell for a fund raiser. I make really good money on this. I supply each time with 750 cards to start. Most of the fall holidays with a lot of Christmas ones and then your normal birthday, get well, thank you etc. But I have all year to prepare for this. All year I have assembly lines going duplicating cards as I go. This generally will generate a few thousand $$$ near the end of the year. This year I have also made some of the cute little totes with 4 cards and evelopes for them to sell and they are such a hit. They make such great gifts for any occasion. Also my two sisters help me with all my projects including the cards we send to the soldiers every week. I am nearly to 25,000 cards sent to date. Plus I supply my church bookstore...these I donate. Yep you guessed it...I am always in my craft room sitting on my fanny.
Blessings.

If she is paying for the supplies up front I wouldn't worry about charging her for your cost until you are done. I would probably cut up all the base cards first then each of the layers etc this way you have everything cut up and just start putting things together, I find the cutting up and making sure that everything is the right size takes more time than anything else. As far as what to charge for your time, I would keep track of how many hours it takes for you to make everything that she wants and figure a price out from there, just remember that when most people charge for there cards they are also including the price of the supplies, in your case the supplies have already been paid for so I would not include this cost. Also see if she will let people know who made the cards so that it might generate some business for you and you can give her a discount in the future. Have fun making everything and ask for help when you need it even if it is getting your son or other family member to do some gluing or putting into envelopes.

Be sure to sign your cards on the back...maybe add a contact number for yourself. I had a stamp made with my info for items I make and sell.

Good luck and have fun with your order!

Wow thanks for all the advice!!! Yes she is paying for all the supplies and after they are done the labour costs.. as I am a demo I needed to get a stamp .Yeah ordered it yesterday and it just so happens i had a copyright stamp .I talked to her yesterday and she said she would be offended if I didn't put my stamp on the back. The snowman card (mr. Twigster) has been cut stamped and colored ..didnt take long either ..just need the ds paper to mount on it..Hopefully I can find some without ordering the whole pkg... My pads are fairly new or just not used enough so I don't think I will run out..I will try to post the cards tonight or tomorrow .I have a major headache (stress maybe lol ) I'm not though ...I am looking forward to it.Assembly line and I do have a dear friend that has offered to help and hubby is bringing home a paper cutter as my fiskars cutter would be a pain! i cut 150 pieces last night and it was ok but I can see it just being to time consuming!!Ok enough chit chatting going to lay down again and put pressure oon my neck..will up date ...Have a great night ladies!!!!Stamp Stamp Stamp!!!!
