Talking Grand Calibur at HL

I spotted one of these today below the dies & embossing folders. I also saw the Cinch and the Copic marker packages (primary & pastel). My Hobby Lobby must have gotten in some new stock. Too bad I didn't need any of these.

Darn - I went to HL today and I searched but I didn't see one. I will keep an eye out!

My Hobby Lobby had one sitting under the Nesties. I don't plan to buy one but with a coupon it will be great for those who want one. My Cuttlebug and Wizard are perfectly fine for what I make .
I didn't see the Grand dies yet. I'll bet eventually they will have those too.

I know the Grand Calibur is new and red and shiny LOL But I am a practical woman .
My reason for not wanting a Grand Calibur right now is I have a Cuttlebug and Wizard that work fine . I don't make scrapbooks so for me the Grand dies would be a waste of money. I love the Labels Grand dies to use on cards , but only 2 of each set would fit in my machines . And I certainly won't buy a $100 machine just to cut a few shaped cards. I only make cards for my family and a few friends

For someone who makes scrapbooks or lots of cards it will be a great additon to their equipment .

If and when my Cuttlebug quits I will consider buying the Grand Calibur.

I got the Cinch today at HL with a coupon. They had the Grand Caliber and the Cricut HP cutter. Lots of shiney new Cuttlebug and Quickuts dies also.

I make a lot of books so the GC would probably be great for that but I am just going to stay away from it. The dies are 50 bucks. I am crazy about the nesties and have at least 35-40 sb dies. I would love to have it for books but realisticly I would not get my money's worth out of it. Now I may change my mind but right now I don't plan on buying one.

So many people love the Grand die idea. Most people have not said the price of the machine it too much. I wonder if the price of the dies is turning people off. Even if you can get them with a 40% off coupon, they would be $30 a set. And who would be satisfied with just one or two sets ?

I was strolling by the clearance section at my local Hobby Lobby. Several, and I mean several Nestabilities on sale for under $8!

They also had the Cinch, Cricut Imagine, Cricut Cake and the Grand Calibur. I was shocked! Our local store is usually behind on the newest stuff.

Still lagging on Copic selection, about sixty colors is all they have.

Ok so here's what I was going to do.

I was going to get a Cricut Expression because I wanted to get a bigger Cricut. However, I realized that I rarely use my Cricut anyway and I've only had a year. I DO dust it off every now and then.

Then I saw the Grand Caliber and thought.......I want that instead. So I watched and waited and watched and waited. I really want one.

Then I watched HSN the other day and saw the Cinch. Now I know I need that.

So my reasoning to my DH is that the GC and Cinch together would either be equal to or less than an Expression. Plus I'd actually use both of these.

Sounds reasonable to me.

So what's the price at HL for these machines? I know that I can get the Cinch through HSN with a 3 pay flex thingy.

I didn't price the Grand Caliber since I don't plan to buy one, but the Cinch at HL was 99.00 and you could use a 40% coupon on it.

I like having my Expression even though I may not use it that much.

I think you all would love a Grand Calibur and the large format dies. So far I have made scrapbook pages, cards, shaped cards, banners & boxes using my large format dies. They will change (for the good) the way you craft, such a great tool to have in your toolbox

I forgot. Did you all know Spellbinders has an idea gallery on their website? They do!! Here are a few links.
this one has 6 or 7 layouts on the top using the large format dies

Actully, my reasoning for not buying the Grand Caliber is that it isn't big enough. If I were to purchase a larger manual diecutter I would want something that would be able to use the Big dies from many companies. Probably would look at a Big Shot Pro from Sizzix.

This is my same thought exactly! If I'm getting a bigger machine I want it to have 12x12 capacity!

I LOVE my GC! It can make mini books, larger sized cards, scrapping dies, etc.
I am excited for having the larger size option- plus the ability to use your regular nestabilities as well- You can put a whole set of regular nestabilities through it!

A Big Shot Pro doesn't have 12x12 capability, does it?

I have removed my Cricut from my computer because I rarely used it since my computer is in a different room from my crafting stuff. I only have 4 cartridges and now realize I will have to purchase more cartridges because I'm not going to hook up the Cricut to my computer or any other 'puter.

So I thought you could use all kinds of dies with the Grand Caliber including the Big dies from Sizzix.

Yes, the Pro is 12x12. They were supposed to have 12x12 embossing plates for them, too, but I haven't really seen them anywhere (expensive, too!).. so I have been holding off.

Okay so I will have to look at this one as well. I know they have an electronic Big Shot but I haven't read very good reviews on it. I really like the way the Grand Caliber looks though.

No Grand Calibur purchase for me. I'll stick with my Expression, the Make the Cut program and the few cartridges I have, and my Cuttlebug and the few folders and nesties that I own. So far these have served me well and I enjoy using them on a lot of things that I make.

I wouldn't mind having a GC. I just don't have a place to put one, nor do I want to have to buy the really big dies. I do scrapbook and make cards as well.

Spellbinders Grand Calibur Bundle

If this is any help in deciding, Scrapmart.com has a bundle on the Grand Calibur which includes all of the Grand dies and the machine, also Free Shipping!!

I ordered mine on the 22nd of Oct as a "pre-order" and had it a couple days later. (I believe they are no longer pre-orders and are in stock.) I also used a coupon (First10) to get an additional 10% off (for first time customers). I was very satisfied with my first order from them and I LOVE the Grand Calibur! (just thought I'd help enable!) : )

I have a Cricut Original (I think I should have bought the Expression last Thanksgiving but it just wasn't in the budget). I also have the Make the Cut program, but it's been a pain to have it in one room and my crafting in the other room. Plus I just don't get the MTC anymore. Maybe, if my DD decides to get a netbook, I'll put MTC on there and try it. However I'm still looking at the GC and the Clinch just because my Cricut just irritates me. I don't know why. It just does. It just sits there and irritates me. LOL!

GC not for me!

I just bought the GC at Hobby Lobby this morning and will be taking it back.

I was very disappointed to find that I would have to buy an additional adaptor mat in order to use my other dies and embossing folders. They do have the adaptor mat on their website for about $6. However, this 5 3/4" square would not even cover the entire GC base plate. Not to mention that one could not use more than one embossing folder at a time and forget about using the larger folders with it. They should have made a 8 1/4" x 11 1/2" adaptor mat and included it in the set.

The instructions were pathic and only cover how to use the Spellbinder dies. If you want to know how to use other dies like Sizzix and Cuttlebug, you must navigate your way around their website. They don't have a sandwich guide ... instead you must read through each of the FAQ.

Going to stick with my Cuttlebug, Revolution and Big Shot.

I'm a gadget person and had to get the GC. Still waiting for my LSS to get it in, but looking forward to it. I've decided to designate my BS to embossing folders and Sizzix and use the GC solely for my Nesties. The hope is that I will have less shifting things around while using the machines. I have a Cinch, used once and will sell for $50 plus shipping if anyone is interested.

I just got my Grand Caliber today at the local Hobby Lobby! Too cool! I have already been playing around with it and posted some of my results on my blog. It's so easy to crank! You can put so many dies on the platform, too! Very neat machine!

Were you able to use a 40% off coupon? Do you mind letting us know how much it is at HL?

Thanks!

The coupon does not exclude the Grand Calibur so you should be able to use it. I wonder when HL will change that?

Yes, I did use the 40% off coupon. I called around to the stores that were closet to me. There was one store that had ONE machine and they saved it for me. I think I danced on the way out of the store, I was so happy!

I went to HL and saw one Cinch and one Grand Caliber. Decisions, decisions, decisions. However, I had two 40 percent coupons. But I decided not to get the Grand Caliber right then. I really, really wanted the Cinch. My DD said go ahead and get them both, but she and I decided we could wait.

Bought the Cinch and another Spellbinders die. They let me use both coupons. Just had to ring up two different sales which was fine by me. My DD and I have had the time of our lives playing around with the Cinch. Now to find a place to get the binding wires since we bought all the ones HL had available.

Next on my list.....watching for the GC to be on sale for Black Friday. Oh yes, I will trip out on that day if necessary. It's either the Expression or the GC.

I would never use the Cinch, and as I have the Expression, I could go for the GC LOL

I wonder if HL will get in some of the GC dies.

The price right now is $129.99 - so it's like $84 with the coupon. If they do offer them on sale, you can't use your coupon. And if you don't have a coupon, just sign up for their emails on the site and you'll get one right away.

Go to Hobby lobby's webpage and click on Instore specials. They have been running a coupon every week here. You should be able to click view coupon and print as many as you need.
