Thumbs up

Daven, et al -

It's clear that this was not an easy decision for you, but it's also clear that you thought long & hard about it. I think your choice makes sense and is appropriate. It's sweet of you to ask for feedback when, ultimately, as others have said, this is your yard that we play in! I appreciate how often you put us first!

I think it's ridiculous. With all the money I'm sure this site brings in, there is no reason not to be able to afford a server that can handle the traffic. How about tweaking your advertising a bit to bring in more money?

Default You just gave me the push I needed

Well I for one have been planning on joining the club for quite some time. But such as life, I have been extremely busy. But I always know that this site is here for me all the time. I started working full time in Feb. and since then it has been hard for me to get on. I never thought 1 extra day of work would make me go that crazy and disfunctional. But anyways, things are starting to get better for me and I truly have been trying to get on here more often. This community is the best!!!!! When I have needed to vent or ask advice you all have helped me. I don't think my computer knows of any other sites except this one. The way I see it I am not out any $ as I have been wanting to see the dirty dozen and plus this is my magazine membership. I look through the magazines and basically see ads and pictures but I don't see too much of how to make/supply list and the patterns to do it. I am a Stampin Up! demo too and if it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have gotten as many WOW's that I have. This site is well worth everypenny!!! I do understand that it is temporary but for me this is the push I needed to get my butt in gear to be a member. Thank You all for everything that you have done to make this my Stamping Home. You are all my favorite sisters!!

PLEASE, PLEASE read the original post on this
thread. I don't think you have an understanding of the concept of
this site. It is NOT supported by advertisers.

Sadly, I think that those not getting it, will continue to not get it. Because OBVIOUSLY, they aren't reading the FIRST POST!

you know this isnt the first site that i have been on that needs support from its members. And on the other sites I am on you either pay or you dont...the paying members get access to more because they are able to support the site. If you dont you just dont get the added bonuses....Not a problem everyone understands...on this site they are simply telling you that the changes will be for a limited time. SCS is not telling you that you either have to pay or leave...but many of you seems to ASSUME that if you dont pay you have to leave. I have read so many RUDE and INCONSIDERATE post but I have noticed on thing in those post you are not reading the facts just posting! READ the OP people! I Just wanted to add on to your comment....my mother used to build websites and maintain them for a living before her strokes... IT TAKES A LOT OF MONEY AND EXPENSES AND IT IS CERTAINLY NOT CHEEP to run these sort of sites especially one w/ such a high volume of traffic as this one has.......

just wanted to add my two cents!

THANKS DAVEN for this WONDERFULL SITE! AS LONG AS I AM A STAMPER/SCRAPBOOKER, I WILL BE A PAID MEMBER !
and if there is ever a time that I can't afford the membership, then I know I will still enjoy the rest of this website for as long as you are up! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Susan,

I wholeheartedly agree with you about continuing to help support
SCS. It is a COMMUNITY, which I should have also included in
my previous post. It ISN'T just another stampin' site. It is Daven
& Tracy's yard, which they graciously allow all of us to play in, 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. For that, I am VERY grateful.

Default So What is the Real Price???

Everyone keeps mentioning that it only cost $20 to be a Fan Club Member, but in order to access the gallery it is going to cost $25 per administrators message. So, does this mean it is going to be a total of $45 to access the entire SCS site?

No!! It is $24.95 to be a member of the fan club. To have unlimited access during the upgrade time, one must be a member of the fan club. Everyone else (who is not a fan club member) will have access but will need to go about it a different way. Some of the gallery features they are used to will not be available (but only during the upgrade time). When the upgrade stuff is done, EVERYTHING (except the DD gallery) will be FREE and ACCESSIBLE to EVERYONE!!!

Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in

Oh, let it shine, c'mon
Now everybody just sing along
Let the sun shine in
Open up your heart and let it shine on in
When you are lonely, let it shine on
Got to open up your heart and let it shine on in
And when you feel like you've been mistreated
And your friends turn away
Just open your heart, and shine it on in

Just what Daven has posted - $24.95.

The confusion between the $20/$25 is this:
when the FC started, it was $20.
This year it was raised to $24.95.

It remains $24.95 - the $20 is an obsolete number now.

The entire SCS site will remain free (except for the Fan Club/Dirty Dozen gallery). Please read the first post for more info regarding what will change temporarily while gallery improvements are made.

Default Another 2 cents worth....

I found out about the decision to TEMPORARILY charge for access to the galleries on another stamping list I belong to and rushed right over here to check it out - read the first post CAREFULLY and rushed right over to the Fan Club link to sign up. I am fortunate enough that $25 is not going to break me - one less magazine subscription, one less impulse buy etc and you can lump me in the group who always meant to join the FC but just never got a round tuit.
Without SCS, I would be lost. I don't remember who introduced me to it, but I visit the galleries a lot - the forums not so much and the resource section somewhere in the middle.
I echo all the sentiments of everyone who has ever wondered how on earth this magnificent resource has stayed free for so long and feel for everyone who cannot find an extra $25 (or even $14) in their budget - again, I wonder how they manage to buy stamping supplies if this is the case, but it's not my life so I'm trying not to judge, HOWEVER....... if I couldn't afford it, I would be sad, but hopefully not so bitter and nasty as some of the posters. If I couldn't afford it, I hope I would be glad I had access to all the resources for so long in this world where there ain't no such thing as a free lunch instead of making *****y comments about there being no site if artwork wasn't supplied, about the money from advertisers (where?) etc etc. Why shouldn't the site at least support itself? Why shouldn't Daven and Tracey actually see a profit? How many members are there? Thousands and thousands!! were the owners of this site, all the negativity may just be making me think twice about making the restrictions temporary.
I second the person who suggested one level for free and one level for everyone - and I really didn't think that was such a great idea til I sampled some of the opinions! I wasn't going to post, but I'm so steamed by some of the stuff I've just read I had to let some of it off!!
Getting off my soapbox now..........

My luck...I'd pay the wrong people and be SOL or in left field somewhere.
The fee is as reasonable as any paid craft subscription...and yours is on demand 24 hours a day whenever we want. Way better than any magazine I get in the mail!!!

Ok, I said my piece on page 10 of this thread and have been lurking ever since, but this post has me intrigued.

If every member of this site took the same stance as you, where would "all the money" that you assume this site brings in come from (assuming all else remains the same)??

What about splitting access (somewhere in the middle states) and having the East side members and the West side members on two separate sites with access only granted to members with their Demo numbers? No idea how much of a logistical and programming nightmare this might be but just a thought. I just found out about this website and as a SU! demo even with all my other resources I would hate to lose access to this website because I couldn't afford the Fan Club fees.

Disappointed in AZ (

Thumbs up No problem here . . .

Even though I hardly ever get to the Fan Club/Dirty Dozen areas, I paid in a long time ago. This site is incredible! Many of us think nothing of handing over $3, $5 even $15 for an "idea magazine" that you may pick up one or two worthwhile ideas from - to say nothing of how much we spend on supplies! This site is not something we are ENTITLED to access. It really is a GIFT (of time, money and obviously heart) we have all been very lucky to have. If you can't or won't pay, you still have an incredible resource - how can you complain? $24.95 spent to support this site is a bargain. Thanks so much D & T !!!!

Britta, Daven, Tracey, Julie, etc. To all who keep telling us to read Daven's post. I've read Daven's post (and joined the fan club!!). Before I get to my 2 comments, let me first say-- love the site, think everyone associated should earn tons of money on it, don't mind paying now that I need to in order to see the galleries by SU set, have NO problem with any of that, I think you guys are great!!
But,

The headline is misleading and got everyone riled up -- "Gallery for paid only?" This is on the home page of the site and the lead of this thread. Many will see that and think -- gee, the gallery will only be for people who pay, and not read any further.

Secondly, He phrased the lead as a question, as if it was open for discussion and debate, when it was a done deal. (Nothing wrong with that, but it invited controversy).

*Very* well said!

So...upgrade time = under construction time. You might have to take a different route to get to the same destination. And this is to allow Daven & his technical wizards to make Gallery software improvements. Here's a quote from Daven's Announcement:
Quote:

Expect the gallery to remain Fan Club-only at least through October while we work to improve the software and enable the gallery to handle larger traffic loads.
This is *not* about the money; it's about the software and the amount of traffic in the Gallery.

PS Fan Club Info...for those having more Q's about the Fan Club.

PPS I like what Joan B said, too.

You know if I had the ability to do so right now I would be tattooing Davens original post to some peoples foreheads.

Geez Louise people, read for Pete's sake, if you would kindly take the time to read the entire original post, you would find answers to all of your questions. If you read back a page or two you will find everything explained repeatedly and in various forms of simplicity.

Default Ok With Me

If I had to pay by the minute for the amount of time I spend here, I would be broke! $25 for lots of great, continuous ideas is well worth the subscription price. We don't want anything to get in the way of you being able to upkeep the site. Thanks so much for a wonderful place to meet with other stampers.

I am fairly new to SCS and I love it! I also know that when I first heard about this site and all it included I was surprised that it was free!

I SUPPORT YOU! I am just a registered member and have not joined anything through the site. Which means I am one of those...I use everything for free! So if now I have to become a member of the Fan Club; then so be it!

I also want to say that everyone here is worth it to talk to! I love you all! You all are a great support and damn positive! So Fellow SCS I am now going to grab my DH's wallet pull his large assortment of Credit Cards out of his wallet and join the Fan Club! Isn't plastic great...its even better when its your Husbands! HA HA HA!

Good luck to you and your traffic fighting issues via the web! I salute you!

Love, Love, Love this site and I am registered, just not a fan club member, YET...my question is...if this wasn't happening (having to pay to go through gallery, etc.) what do Fan Club members receive that regular members don't. Just curious...thanks for everything and keep up all the fabulous work. Without all the behind the scenes hard work, I don't know if I personally would still be as active in SU as I am, its a great outlet and resource!!

Since July of '04, the Fan Club has had access to the Dirty Dozen gallery as a special thank you for their support of the site. Recently, the Fan Club forum was added - this forum is for the DD to post instructions, step-by-step photos, and templates that they have created for the projects they share.

Again, "having to pay to go through gallery" is not exactly true. The gallery will still be available for ALL members, regardless of whether they have donated or not. . . There will be no visible change for Fan Club members. Non-Fan Clubbers will see Member Galleries and Technique Galleries. . . and will be able to use the search function rather than going straight to the A-Z categorized galleries.

After 10/31 - back to the way it is now for all members.

Default REstricting Gallery

I have really enjoyed being a member of SCS, but if I have to pay to view the gallery, I just do not have the extra funds right now. I understand your position and I hope you understand mine. Thanks for everything so far.

Meemee - please read the original post, or my very condensed version right above yours.

Have a great evening!

Oy, I give up. Looks to me like no matter how much we beat this dead horse by directing people to the beginning of the thread every fifth freakin' post, few people are actually listening. Heaven help us when Saturday rolls around and the forum explodes with people wondering what the heck happened and asking why they can't upload.

Not that there aren't enough posts already on the subject, I will add in my 2 cents...............

There are a few other sites that I know of that require a payment to get access to the site, newsletter or the disucussion forum and in my opinon this site runs circles around the others.

I haven't been on as much since my daughter started school and threw my whole scedule off!!!!! :0) And, like so many others I have been meaning to join the fan club, but just haven't taken the extra step, so now I will get my rear in gear and put my money where I get all my help from. All of you are just the best!

Smile Gallery for paid members only?!

When I first joined SCS, I couldn't understand why anyone would want to pay for the Fan Club when so much is available to us for free. But then I would read the posts about the wonderful *** that so and so made on the Fan Club, and I wouldn't be able to access that gallery. At the time I couldn't even afford the $20 it cost to join. Once I was able to shell out the $20, it was well worth the cost. This site (with Daven and Tracy's help), and its contributors (you, the stampers) make SCS what it is - the premier stamping website. Daven and Tracy are providing the 'home' for all this wonderful talent. I would easily forego a stamp set just to have the ideas available to me at my fingertips, as so many others have noted, and without having to thumb through magazines. When I'm looking for inspiration for that new set I just bought, I always turn to SCS to see what other stampers have created with it. Sometimes that occurs at Midnight or other weird hour of the morning (I know there are more of you night-owl stampers out there!). I want to be able to search by stamp set! If I'm limited to searching each member's site individually, I know that I would not visit here so often. In addition to the wonderful images that everyone uploads, I have also enjoyed the technique tutorials and have participated in some of the challenges.

So I guess what I'm saying is that $20 - $25 a year for access to all the site is within my scope of reasonable costs to enhance my stamping experience. I appreciate the owners of this site for all they do for us! Thanks.

Default Lighten the load?

Why not lighten the load and delete all "RETIRED" sets from the gallery and keep it only current sets? Is the speed of the server due to the number of users or the amount of space?

I'm cool with the amount charged for members. I have been a registered user for a long time, but as you can see I don't visit too often. Don't get me wrong, I love the site, but some of us are way too busy to spend so much time behind a computer. I personally visit and spend about 30 minutes lurking. If I'm lucky– I visit 2-3x a month. I'm sure all of us who don't have a paid membership will have PLENTY to drool over.

Great work SCS team!
