I like the new papers...but why don't they make them all in 12 x 12? I don't do 9 x 9, so I was disappointed that some of the papers only came in that format.

I like 8.5 x 11 the best- so I agree with your sentiment- but I think (and this is my opinion, I have no idea if it is the actual reason) but it's so there are lots of different things availble. That way people who do 8x8 and 9x9 don't always have to cut their paper down to size.

Besides, if the paper is cute enough- there is always progressive scrapbooking

Well, sorry ladies, I can't say I'll be jumping the fence yet. ;) Cute papers, but a little out of my price range for the 12 x 12 and the ones I really like are not the right size. And I don't get the price on the alphabet set...why is it so expensive? You don't get the blocks with it and it isn't that big...I'd have to spend the big bucks just to buy the blocks plus the set...I do like it a lot, but not enough to justify the price. And while the alphabets would probably where I might buy outside of my own catalog since I use what I like in my scrapbooks...but $40 for just the rubber...I thought you were supposed to save money with unmounted? I guess I'm not gettin' it.

Jan, just to clarify....it comes with the rubber and the EZMount, not just the rubber die. But, I do agree that the alpha is a bit pricey. But, since I'm not a scrapper, I wouldn't buy them anyway and I appreciate that the papers come smaller, for card making. And, there are many TAC stamps that are just not my 'style', hence I signed with SU. And, there supplies, I think are pricey....and as you said....available almost anywhere with a coupon....but, I will buy stamps that I like and since I'm like Robyn and going totally UM for space reasons, the only stamps that will come into this room now (aside from my SU's) will be unmounted. Acrylic blocks can also be purchased cheaper than through TAC, so don't let that stop you from 'trying' them, if there is something that you like.

Papers look beautiful. Question for TAC demos, is that weight different for the various collections? I ordered the Urban Chic 6x6 pad of paper earlier this summer and was abit disappointed in the quality. Granted it was only $6.95 but it was pretty lightweight. Is the larger 12 x12 collection comparable in weight to a cardstock or pattern paper?

Urban Chic is paper, not cardstock- which is why it is so lightweight. The 12 x 12 are cardstock, similiar to the weight of the Matchmakers cardstock (I think)- it is not as heavy weight as SUs cardstock, which has both benefits and drawbacks. I wouldn't use it as a cardbase, but it is great for scrapbooking and excellent for layers on cards (especially because I hate when my cards get top heavy) and I love the little extras that come with the 12 x 12 paper collections.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't think the alpha is that pricey for an alpha of it's size (I personally love the cheaper alphabets we carry- my favorite is alpha tiles). It is a large alphabet, I don't know how it could be called "not that big"- on the pdf I printed it looks to be the same size as headline or big deal SU alphas, which are the same price. And, to me, the fact that it comes without blocks is a BONUS. I don't have room for those wood blocks. I think UM definetly saves you money, but just as importantly, it saves space.

As for buying an acrylic block- well you only need one to start. And they are really not that expensive at all. You really don't even need that. I often use the top of my ink pad case.

Can I expect the 12 x12 collection to be of similar weight to Basic Grey( not familar with Matchmakers)? Is there 2 sheets of each design or just 1?

Yes, the papers are lovely ... yet way too expensive!!

I have a number of sets that I bought over a year ago to try them out. Even though they are very cute images they have still not been used once. It is too inconvenient to mount them and unmount them and switch back and forth unless you have a bundle of money to invest in extra sets of the acrylic mounting blocks.

The only advantage to these types of stamps is storage. If you are willing to deal with the inconvenience of putting them together and taking them apart all of the time, the storage space is reduced a lot.

But that still doesn't explain why this is supposed to save you money when you pay the same price for the rubber without blocks as you would for the rubber with blocks and then have to have the acrylic blocks on top of that...:confused: ANd if I was going to buy an alphabet because I could see where I was stamping, I'd have to have a see through block and not an ink pad case for that to work.

I can appreciate the storage issue thing, but I probably would use them less because for me they would be more work and the images would get buried on my stamp table...(ask anybody who has watched me stamp at home and they'll tell you that by the end of the night I've got a 3" x 3" space that I'm working in and the rest of the desk is covered with cardstock, stamps, ink pads and other supplies and tools...I lose things under there all the time!) But that's just me, I know other people like it...

I'll keep looking...but so far, I can't say there's anything I'll buy.

I agree the alpha is WAY to pricey considering its an unmounted system. It seems that their prices have gone up to be comparable to wood mounted stamps without the wood, and without the benefit of clear stamps.

I have a growing collection of TAC, and like the images I have, guess I'm just a little surprised at the price increase. Especially for the paper.

I'm not trying to argue with you JanTink, you don't have to like them. I personally don't care for wood mounted stamps. I got into SU because I loved the idea that they came in a set. When I found CHF and was introduced to unmounted (I would have never had a clue that was availble if not for SCS) I was hooked. About 4 months later I found TAC- which has unmounted AND sets. Exactly what I needed.

Someone else said the only advantage to these stamps is storage- and I don't see that. I don't think it is at all inconvient to use these, it takes ME no time to stick them on the block- they are easier for ME to use than wood mounted stamps- and take up way less room on my stamping table, making them easier for me to find because I don't have to dig through piles of wood blocks. I'm actually considering hanging a small plastic sheet above my stamping table, so I can stick the ones I'm planning on using each session on it, so I can grab them from there. It's just a personal preference, I guess. Plus I can put more than one stamp on a block at a time, making stamping out phrases or scenes on a lot of cards easier. I can also always see where I am stamping the image, which I always had a hard time doing with wood blocks- and I don't want to have to use a stampamaijig each time.

As for ink cases instead of blocks- I can more or less see through the one I use, so it's not an issue.

And for the money issue- I'm not sure why the big alphabets are the same price as the wood mounted. As far as I can tell they are the only sets that are the same. From what I've seen sets in the TAC catalog sell for less than similiar sized ones in the SU catalog. As for personal style, I like images from both, so I buy images from both.

Well, I'm done with this thread- off to make a wishlist and work on some cards.

Most of my stamps are UM and I don't find them inconvenient at all to use. It has not interfered with the ease or enjoyment of stamping and cardmaking once. I love that I can browse through my stamp sets quickly and easily, and I personally find the CD cases I store my UMs in a lot easier to open and close compared to the SU clamshells. JMHO! Using UM stamps is heaven for some folks and hell for others; you have to try them out and decide for yourself whether you love them.

I don't need to keep images that I don't use and even if I really liked something that retired, I know that there will always be something new in the next catalog that I'll like just as much.

I have a harder time with paper, though. I am a paper junkie and have a hard time convincing myself that perfectly beautiful paper that I will like just as much as what is right in front of me is somewhere in my future...I want to buy it in case I can never find something as cute as that again :lol: sigh...I wish your paper came in 12 x 12 in all the designs...I would definitely buy some. :(

Hold on, so these stamps aren't even CLEAR??? I was thinking of getting a set of alphabets for scrapbooking because I thought they were clear. I thought that was why all the lines were less detailed than ours, b/c it was made of the clear (don't remember the name of the material, sorry!). I figured those thick lines were just the trade off for being able to see through and have perfect placement

Hmmm....I guess to me the images seem a little out of date. Maybe just not quite up with the current trends?? I was also WAY surprised at how pricy the stuff was. To me that alphabet is way expensive for what you get, and really the paper is too.

I think the 12x12 paper packs, the ones with the die cut alphas, are the same cost as the Basic Grey ones. You only get one sheet each with the Basic Grey as well. I don't really scrapbook so I don't get into papers as much as other people.

And the papers that SU has this year. Most of them looked like someone puked all over them.

CTMH does the acrylix stamps. TAC uses rubber still, but they put them on clear blocks instead of wood. They are an unmounted system too.

Well, I can buy Basic Grey by the sheet, so it is a little different. And they are double sided, so I can justify the price. I really do like the TAC papers...but the price is too high for me. I also like to do two-page spreads with the base of both pages the same and in order to do this with this paper pack I would have to buy two of them. :( It's really too bad, because I do really like them.

As far as SU! I think you must be referring to the Treehouse paper with the "puke" :mrgreen: the other papers don't have the feature of the "distressed by spillage" look. I haven't gotten the Treehouse paper yet, but it would be nice if the catalog showed that a little better than it does. Some people really like that look.

No, the stamps themselves are rubber. The only thing that is clear are the mount blocks.
Basically you mount and unmount the rubber (yes, rubber) stamp on/off the clear block. They sell different size clear blocks. The rubber stamp comes with some sort of mounting cling foam ??? that you peal on and off the block.

Although I'm a SU! demo, I have tons of non-SU stamps. I'm afraid I have yet to find a TAC set that I wanted (from seeing cards in the gallery... I haven't seen a catty). I did go to the new supplement posted, but I still haven't found any images that I like enough to buy. And I have to agree the paper is way too expensive for me.
