IKEA opens in Michigan
Hi,
I live about three blocks from the newest IKEA store in Canton, Michigan. I thought that it was opening on June 7 but drove by and saw that the parking lot and the overflow parking lot across the street were full. I guess the offical opening is Wednesday. That's when they offer all the free stuff and drawings.
Just thought I would let everyone know. Some may want to avoid the area in the next few weeks but today everything was flowing smoothly on the nearby roads.
I will go there soon, I just have my DH drop me off and call him to come get me when I am all shopped out.
If I see any of those CD holders that work for our stamp pads, I'll buy as many as I can afford then post here. I'll charge cost plus shipping.
If anyone is interested, you can PM me.
Have a nice weekend.

IKEA in Atlanta has been open for about a year and it is still crazy busy like that pretty much every day. I've only been twice, but it is a great store and I'm looking forward to my in-laws watching my kids (or my youngest finally being potty trained -- so my boys can go in the supervised play area) so I can shop in peace!!
I've been happy with everything I've purchased from IKEA and have been happy with all of them.
Happy Shopping!

When the one in Minneapolis opened, people lined up outside a couple of days ahead of time! I remember that it was just crazy busy for several months. BTW, it's the Stackbo DVD holder that you're looking for. When I got mine, they took the display one off the wall for me because it was the only one left!

My brother and his wife live in Canton. I'll have to tell them. We have one here in College Park and it is so nice not to have to drive for hours to get to one anymore.

They are kind of a strange company that way -- I had requested catalogs from them for several YEARS and they always told me that all the catalogs for my zip code had already been sent out so they couldn't send me one <huh?????>. A friends sister lives in Chicago so she got a bunch and send them to down to us here in Atlanta. The store was worth the wait, however!

btw what are these cd holders? I haven't heard about them. |

The father of one of my students is a cop in Canton and said he is working 96 hours next week with the opening of the IKEA. I asked if he had pull and could get me in ! I liveabout 45 minutes from it. I will wait to go later when the crowds arn't as crazy (a year or two)!
Let us know what good bargains there are

I was just at our Ikea (West Sacramento) today. They had the DVD holders back in. They are called STAKEBO DVD item # 600.775.72 and they are $4.99 each. They hold 17 stamp pads and mount on the wall with 2 screws (not included). HTH

Ikea's wooden DVD holders fit our ink pads perfectly! You hang them on the wall and you are set. You will go crazy for all of their storage stuff you can use for your stamps!

From the Ambassador Bridge, I would say about a half hour, maybe a little longer from the tunnel. Depending on traffic, of course!!

I live about three blocks from the new IKEA in Canton too!! My daughter's MIL got to go on Saturday. They opened it up for the press and she was able to get tickets through a friend who works for a newspaper.
I was thinking the same thing-- having my husband drop me off and come back for me!! They are allowing people to camp out starting on Monday for the opening on Wednesday. Too crazy!!
We will be avoiding Ford Rd. at all cost next week. We can go down Lilley from our house and go in the back way by Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Interesting that IKEA is just coming into the US this last couple years. We have had IKEA in Canada forever...Usually the US gets the great stores first, and we wait years for them. I wonder if Canada will ever get a MACY'S or TARGET??? Anyhoo, IKEA is a great store, they also have a great catalogue and should ship anywhere in the US if they have stores there now. P.S. very easy to get lost in this store, you may want to pack a lunch or better yet find the cafe inside, great food and very cheap.

You will definitely need to take home a pack of cinnamon rolls from the cafe', they are great!!! We go to ikea about once a month, and ALWAYS find something to buy. My home is slowly tunring into an Ikea showroom! My craft table and chairs are all from Ikea, it seat s up to 10 people, and was well worth the $$$$. Have fun, and have lunch in the restuarant, it's really cheap!

Okay, NOW I see why so many people here seem to be nuts over Ikea. I've been to one an hour from my house and thought "this place sucks, why does everyone think its so great?". But that stamp pad thing may warrant a visit!

You must live close to me. I know the back way to Bed, Bath and Beyond but I think it will become an overflow parking lot for the next few weeks.
With all the construction around Ford, Sheldon and Warren, it will be a traffic nightmare for a few weeks.

The reason people like IKEA is because they have cool stylish stuff that is CHEAP! And they have lots of stuff you can stamp on/with. They have wall clocks that you can stamp on the face to decorate for just a few bucks, and here is the link to some magazine holders that I bought there and decorated.

Another great thing Ikea has is the cork coasters that fit perfectly under a
4x4 tumbled marble tile for the coasters, In Canada they are 12 for $2.99 or $3.99 I forget. I have organized my whole Stampin Studio with Ikea book cases, If you can go to scratch and dent it is amazing what you can get for cheap. I wanted the Billy bookcases and I was going to wait to buy them but my husband checked out scratch and dent, they had the three I wanted in the color I wanted for 1/2 of the regular cost. There were a few blemishes but no big deal.
Great stocking stuffers too. And I use their file boxes for storage, they come in tons of styles. Check out their shadow box frames as well.
The closest ones to me are Edmonton and Calgary which both and the huge ones. Have fun Tami

Yes, I live at Warren and Lilley. Where do you live?
Isn't it crazy all of the construction? Like they didn't know IKEA was opening. We had all the construction on Ford Rd. last year and now they are tearing it up again.

I grew up near Miller school, off of Hanford between Sheldon and Lilley.
My Step-mom & sister live west of Lilley, South of Warren in Bainbridge Apartments, off of Foxthorn.
We defenintely need to get together and stamp! I would love to meet some other SU demos.

My DH and I drove to Atlanta last month to go to Ikea. Well the drive home was intersting considering I have a Bettle Convertible and the backseat was packed with boxes and our seats would not go back at all. I found some more things for my scrap room. The best was a floor mat for my chair with flowers all over it! Love it. Love Ikea. I want one near me.

I live in Farmington Hills, I think I will wait a week or so and then spend the day there. I used to live out east and loved to go to the Ikea near Philidelphia. It was always a big treat!

My friends and I used to joke that there ought to be a minister at the door of IKEA to acknowledge the committment signified by a young males accompanying their GFs there.

Wow there seems to be a lot of us in the area! I'm at Sheldon and Ann Arbor Road. Not a Demo but a SCS and newbie stamper. I've been watching the construction at that corner for awhile now, just down the strip from Michael's you know

they just broke ground on an IKEA here in Round Rock, Texas (just north of Austin). They are also constructing a new outlet mall about a block north of there. The construction/improvements on the nearby roads and bridges has already started. I have been avoiding the area because of the construction.
I can't wait to go in it though. I don't think I'm a camp out kinda gal though. I am a "have my hubby drop me off and pick me up kinda gal".
