Default FYI About Postage Increase!!

Just got back from the Post Office and got some important news! There are going to be a lot of changes to things that are mailable and things that are not with the rate increase on May 14th!!

It will cost you more to mail any envelope with a clasp enclosure.
It will cost more to mail square envelopes on any size.

These are just two of the changes that you should know about. I know a lot of us use both of those items with our stamping & swapping. The reason for the changes are becasue of the size of the machines the letters and envelopes go throuhg. Some sizes and items (like the clasps) jam the machines up.

So check with your postman to see about more changes. We all don't want to get stuck spending more that we have to!!

Default SHAPE

I went to a seminar last week because of my work.
Everything is now shape based - it's all about thickness and size now - not just about weight.

I didn't see anything about this on the USPS website. Does anyone know where that info is?

I got it right from our post office. The one we have is a major hub in this area and the postmaster gave me the dirtiest look when I brought in an envie with a clsp. He quickly put tape over it and told me about the new policies and how the rate will go up!

Square envies have always been more than rectangular, right?

Default Not Fair More For Square

If a square envelope is within the USPS measurement guidelines for maximum height and width, it would seem that a square envelope not larger than 6 1/8 x 6 1/8 would go for regular rates. Is this not the case? I've never mailed a square card before, but will probably get square cards on the brain now that they're going up?

Metal clasp envies have been more all the time. Because they were not normal size. I know they have never liked the metal clasp but hen they should talk to the envelope makers not us.

Square envelopes regardless of size are considered non-machineable. It is because someone has to physically turn the envelope to make sure the address scanning machine can read the address. Rectangular envelopes don't have this problem.

As for the metal clasps, you don't have to tear them off, just don't use them. Tape the flap shut.

HTH!

Yep that's what my postman said. Just tape over them and they will be fine.

Does anyone know what a square card will cost? It used to be an extra .13.

Bumping with the reminder that as of Monday morning, a regular US Postage stamps goes/has gone up to $0.41 . It's time to purchase your new $0.41 stamps and a few $0.02 stamps as well!

Thanks for the info. Doesn't it feel like rates just went up like a month or two ago anyway?
