Father's day cards for our troops

Hi all. I am part of an organization called soldier's angels who support our deployed troops. I have just finished mailing mother's Day cards for the troops to send home to the Mom who must surely be applauded for raising these fine young men and women! I can't imagine what it must be like to have your "baby" in harms way day and night! So now I am collecting Father's day cards for those "Dads" who must be just as proud as Moms and just as worried. If yoiu would like to make some Father's day cards for them please mail them to me @ Sue Salsburg 11637 Elton Rd Navarre Oh 44662. If you have any questions please email me at [email protected]. Please also include your email address with the cards you send so that I can forward the thanks from our troops! The cards I mailed for Mother's day were incredible and a friend who does these cards gave me this site~~ I have gotten even more requests for Father's Day cards! It is a wonderful way to show our men and women overseas we have not forgotten about them and we appreciate all they are doing! Thanks for reading this I look forward to hearing from some of you...God Bless our troops Sue[/FONT]

What I truly wonderful idea!!

Come on, girls! We can do this!! let's help Sue out with this project!

dot2dot 04-13-2005 06:57 PM

How many do you need to make your goal?

buckeye01 04-13-2005 07:14 PM

There is no goal....

There is no goal for this project. I mailed 200 Mother's day cards to soldiers serving in Iraq~~~three units(30-40 cards each depending on how many they asked for) and packs of 10 to 6 of the servicemen from a variety of units in Iraq with whom I correspond for themselves and their buddies and then used the remainder to add to each of my letter writing assignments that are letters that go to soldiers who do not get alot of mail... I am anxious to hear back from them as they should be getting the cards this week......I am afraid the number of requests will increase when they see these wonderful cards! I think many of the Letter writing soldiers will thank me and say how their buddies would have loved a mother's day card too(no place to buy these kind of things and every cards I mailed for Mother's day was so much better than any card I could have purchased)...plus I think these Mom's and dad's are going to know their sons and daughters are supported and loved by the people making these cards...that has to be a great feeling..So I would love to send even more Dad's cards than Mom's cards but I will be thankful for whatever i get to share with them Sue

celestial_stamper 04-13-2005 07:50 PM

buckeye01 04-14-2005 02:50 AM

thank you

Wow you guys are awesome !!! Please remember to tell everyone who has an email address to include it with their cards so I can forward the responses from our troops....they're so thankful to have cards to send home...I want to be able to share their thanks with all who help! Plus it lets me be able to tell you that your cards have arrived and are ready to go to Iraq with LOVE~~ feel free to post my info anywhere that will help I apprecaite it more than I can express(smiles to all)
Sue

dot2dot 04-14-2005 05:19 PM

Do you need envelopes too?

WordTrix 04-14-2005 06:59 PM

Sue~ I will be glad to send some cards along for you to distribute. I sent some over last year through another site and know they were appreciated, but had no one to send them to this year.

Dot~ Yes, do include envelopes. That way they don't have to try and find one that fits, which can be quite a challenge.

Heather

THANK YOU

Thank you so much for the help--the envelopes help but If you do not have them i have purchased some for the cards that arrive that need envelopes. The troops have free mail home so when we send the card and envelope they have everything needed to mail back to Dad! I just got the first email from the Mother's day cards I sent here is a portion of it-
" I thank you for the cards that you sent me. They were beautiful. I am so glad that you picked me up to sponsor. Please tell everyone who helped they are the best. I am mailing mine home now so Mom will have hers! She will be so surprised. " Percy

raduse 04-15-2005 04:29 PM

Count me in too Sue!! I'm printing off the thread to pin to the wall by my stamp table and I'm going to email it to a friend of mine who is a disabled Army vet. I'm sure she'll forward it on from there too.

buckeye01 04-15-2005 05:04 PM

thanks I appreciate the help!!!

Thanks!!! Any help you can give me for this would be AWESOME....the need is so great-- what a wonderful thing to do to allow these brave men and women to send home a card to their DAD on Father's day--- I am sure 90% will arrive to astonished Dads who wonder where the soldiers got hold of these cards ( Craft time in the sand??? LOL) but they will be treasured cards that will remind the Dad's that their sons and daughters love them and that somewhere people wanted to make sure they had a chance to tell them just that! So please feel free to pass along my address to whomever...the more I get the more soldiers get a chance to wish their dad's Happy Father's Day!! Sue

Rhiamon 04-16-2005 08:52 AM

What is the deadline for this? When do we need to have them in the mail to you?

kmk504 04-16-2005 09:23 AM

Thank You

Thank you for taking the time to do this for our troops. Count me in, what a wonderful way to show our support for them and the sacrifice that they and their families are making. You mentioned you send cards to some of the military who do not get much mail, please advise what we need to help out with that. I would not mind making a few extra card for that as well. God bless our troops and the U.S.A. Kathy

etsdas 04-16-2005 12:36 PM

Count me in - if it is not too late. Do you want them in plastic bags?

Nurse_Terry 04-16-2005 02:05 PM

My cards will be in the mail Monday. As the mother of a son who is in his final training as a fighter pilot in the Air Force I appreciate you taking on this effort. God bless you and our troops!

buckeye01 04-16-2005 05:24 PM

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow you guys are so AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I hope I remember everything to answer...
I just need cards and envelopes--no plastic bags--in fact the temps in Iraq are already getting really high--for those of you who love the heat it can get to 130 and add an extra 10 degrees from all their military clothing--I think air conditioned boxers?? Wow If I could make those!!!

I need the cards no later than the end of the first week in May-- I am mailing out them as I get enough --first to the the units whose mail takes the longest --I think it has to do with distance from Bagdad but I am not sure ( I just keep track of how long it takes my care packages to arrive)~~those Military addresses are greek to me--and they really don't tell you were they are in Iraq.

If I missed anything else I will add another note...just got home from a day of softball and I am so excited to find even more help--that EQUALS more Happy soldiers and their Dads!! It makes me smile :D

You are all so talented! And I count is as a blessing to have found your help!!

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) ))))))))))))))))))) to all of you!!!!
Sue
email- [email protected] If you need me :)

acolussi 04-16-2005 05:50 PM

How do you find out who doesn't get much mail?
I would love to be able to write to them?

buckeye01 04-17-2005 06:35 PM

soldiers angels

I get names for soldiers through soldiers angels---these are men who have ask for support themselves or their families have ask or superior officers have ask--I know there are many ways the names are given to SA....When the third delpoyement started many newly arriving troops were left notes telling them to join--a great recommendation...if you would like to rwite them go to
www.soldiersangels.org and look

Momto4boys 04-18-2005 12:42 PM

Thank you for doing this. I'm sure this helps more than you know. How about a challenge to all the splitcoast viewers. If we each send a few cards, we could make a lot of people very happy.

buckeye01 04-18-2005 01:13 PM

thanks

you are so right the more we have the more Dad's get the surpirse of their life on Father's day~~~and I know there are going to be a lot of these kind of Dads :D and they will have that grin because great people like you cared enough to do this for their son or daughter

buckeye01 04-20-2005 05:38 AM

I keep telling them that there are some incredible people who are sending me cards almost daily and I think when it is all said and done we will have some of everyone........or that is my hope! But these guys are so thankful that someone cares enough to make them a card they can use to send home! So thanks and keep them coming the need is great!

Father's day cards for troops

I am putting 10 cards in the mail tomorrow morning. Let me know if you need more and I will try to get busy.
Sue you are the best for doing this.
THANKS

ValerieJ 04-22-2005 08:53 PM

This is such a wonderful thing you are doing. I will try and get a few in the mail to you on Monday morning. I think it is so great that you hear back from them. I have sent cards before through different org, but never heard a word back. Not that it is necessary to hear, but I always wonder did they actually get there to them? My Mom's prayer group has adopted five from our county that we try and send cards to once in awhile and they are always so grateful and excited to hear from someone they know. This would be a great idea to include in a package to them also. Thanks for the great inspiration! Val

buckeye01 04-23-2005 01:10 AM

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

You are all so wonderful~~~our fighting men and women are going to know they are SUPPORTED - when the cards arrive and they see the love put into these cards! It is such a awesome gift you all have and a labor of love to our troops that you have spent time, effort and money to supply them with therse cards! They will be blown away (that is a good thing!!!) Blessings to all!!!! Sue

Dad's day cards

I would also like to help support our troops. I have a brother-in-law over there that I feel guilty for neglecting him! Do we need to have the angel policy stamp on the back and can we stamp our name on them? Also can we do mor than just Dad's day cards or are you specific to that? THanks again for inspiring us all and helping us to remember them.
Ellie

I wanted to let you allknow I am collecting cards for general use and other holidays as well--- my one adoptee is at a forward operational base(FOB) with no real PX so these cards are going to be a blessing to her and the others stationed there...YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

cheddar30 04-24-2005 12:14 PM

I think what you are doing is wonderful! We were just recently restationed in Oklahoma, my husband is in the army. He signed into a unit that is expecting to deploy to Iraq in a few months. I am not sure I can get father's day cards in time but I will be able to send some birthday, anniversay and etc. to help out. Thanks to everyone for supporting our troops!

great idea

What an incredibly thoughtful thing to do! I own a small Scrapbooking store in Maryland. We have a monthly card group that meets. I probably won't be able to get Father's Day cards to you in time, but I will see if we can't get together some cards for other occassions. We don't realize the luxuries that we have here, like going to the store and buying our loved ones cards.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the members of the armed forces, even though I don't personally know anyone who is serving. I collect Cell Phones for Soldiers which collects old cell phones and in exchange they get calling cards so the soldiers can call home. If anyone has old cell phones sitting around, take them to your nearest Liberty Tax office or go to www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com to see if you have a local drop off near you. What a great way to put old cell phones to work!
