Default Uggghhh! What was I thinking???

Last summer I thought I would go through my 300+ stamp sets and purge them. I ended up selling 125 of them because I hadn't pulled them out to use in a while and just kept the ones I thought I would use. Well, now that I am feeling creative again I want about 80 of those sets back!!!!! Have any of you ever sold a set and bought it again later?? I'm feeling kind of weird about doing it but I need to. Can you believe I sold all my little background sets like Itty Bitty Backgrounds??

I hate that I sold a bunch of my sets, even if I had no room for them, even if I was to never use them again, if I could go back, I wouldn't sell any of them!! I have bought a couple of them back now though, what was I thinking!!

Yup, been there, done that. I got rid of a bunch of my sets a couple of years ago when I was a demo for the first time and they seemed useless because the sets were retiring. I bought Frosty back in December for the second time and I'm looking at buying others again as well. Seems like such a waste of money, but hey, I want those sets back. So I feel your pain, Robyn.

Yeah, I've done that....I still miss some of the sets that I purged. But, trying to get over it, enjoy new goodies and move on.

I do feel your pain, tho.....

this is the precise reason that I can't get rid of anything. I know as soon as I get rid of it, I will need it! The only thing that I have ever sold is duplicates.

Oh, yeah....although fortunately not as many as 125! I have re-purchased some, but some I can't afford to spend the money that they go for now. I am also afraid now to get rid of sets, lol. It's not worth it! I guess I will have to unmount a lot of them, so at least I can save some space....

This is exactly what I've been afraid of.

I've been in a slump for the last year, probably because it's been so crazy in my life with getting married, moving, losing my father-in-law, training for a new job, new grandson, 2 surgeries, one daughter getting married, one getting cancer and divorced, 3 car accidents...just since September.

I know if I sell any of my stamps, I'll want them back.

Thanks for sharing your feelings and saving me from making a big mistake.

Thanks for posting this thread. I just purged/sold ~20 sets this past weekend and was wondering if I should go through my collection and purge some more. But I have a hard time taking that step because of the what if. This helps me justify to keep what I've got. What I really should do is go through and index so that I know what all I have.

This is exactly why I'm not selling mine quite yet. I figure if I don't get around to using them, I can always let my kids use them. That way they'll stay away from my 'current loves.'

Yep - exactly why I don't know if I'll ever be able to part with any of them. When I first started really buying sets I got one that I thought was So pretty. Well then I got it and I didn't really like it. Now, though it's packed away (redoing my craft room) I think I DO like it and would love to play with it!!

Been there, done that. I sold several sets years ago and have missed several of them. I've bought back two or three of them. Everytime I think I might purge some more, I remind myself of my past mistake.

Been there, done that. I sold some sets on ebay a few years ago (before there was really that big a market)..... I got almost nothing for them and now there are a few I really miss (like provencal). Boo hoo. I'd definitely buy them back if you can!

What can you do? Our styles change and we learn new techniques....

Hoarders like me can feel validated by your post. I just know that if I part with any that's the moment something will come up that I just "need" that set for. Like this year when I spent the night with a friend and noticed that she had everything in her house "privative". I was soooo glad I still had my DDBranch set to make her a privative looking card!

So... I decided to unmount only the old sets that I'll never sell that I just wont' part with (like Nature's Secret) and keep the valuable sets like "Key to my Heart" on their blocks and at least save some space so I can keep "my precious" all to my self!!!!

 " I loveses the precious... I keepes the precious for ME!"

Buy back what you want and never be so silly again! HA!

Okay~~~ maybe it's just b/c I haven't reached a point in my stash yet where I feel I have to clean out...but I was thinking differently w/ this story..... Doesn't this just give you justification to go out and buy a whole bunch of new stuff you wanted? Since you made money on the old stuff

I say - forget them and move on . . .on to fresher and more contemporary sets! If you buy them back, my guess is that you will make a couple cards with them, and then they'll end up being unused again.

Yes, but did I learn the first time I did it - NO. I sold all but about 5 sets, so I sold around 100-125 SU sets. Then my neighbor started selling SU and showing some of the new technique's so I got on ebay and started to try back one's that I had sold. most of them I couldn't find, and to top it off I paid more than I sold them for.

Then I got rid of all my baby stamp sets, and single stamps I would say at least 25-30 sets and who knows how many single stamps. Everyone said their families were done, no more babies. Whoops!!! here come's a nephew due in July. So I went back on ebay looking for baby stamps again. I found some but, not all. I am kicking myself for selling a few of those that I really want back.

I just told my daughter I was thinking of giving up stamping and sticking to scrapbooking and selling all but my outdoors and baby stamps, now I don't know what to do.

Wow what a great thread... one never really thinks about this when thinking that they need to purge out some of the old. I have been toying with this idea myself but when I looked hard at it, I didn't want to part with any of my sets, even the ones I don't use that often. I go through phases in my stamping where I do cute stuff or vintage stuff or floral stuff and then the other stuff just doesn't thrill me but then another year later I'm back at it. Ahhhhhhhhhh.... I need a craft HOUSE, not a craft room! LOL

Well, I made well over $1000 with those sets that I sold.... Bought my new camera, a DVD/TV player for my stamp room, and something else that I can't think of right now. I made enough money on them but now I think I want them back!! ;)

I've experienced the same "sellers remorse," but so far have resited rebuying any of the sets that I have sold. I've made a bargain with myself that if I'm still "missing" the set in 6 months or so that I can replace it. It's sort of like getting rid of old clothes and then having that pang of loss that your favorite tee shirt is no longer available to wear.

Remorse! One of the reasons to go unmounted! Just because it retires, does not mean it is out the door! I know for sure, evern though I have never used it, the minute I let it go, it will be the *one* set or stamp I have to have! LOL

That is why I hoard them all, every last little one of them and most likely will!

Go out there and get back the ones you want!

That's why I don't sell my retired stamp sets! I have hundreds of SU sets and I'm keeping them all! Space will become an issue at some point, but for this upcoming retirement list, I will have to do some rearranging - but to sell, them, NO! <g>

Your stamp sets are like your maternity clothes. As soon as you get rid of them - **BOOM**- you need them again! Wait until menopause or your husband gets a vasectomy to get rid of your stamps.

Wow. I've only sold two sets, so obviously there's not much for me to regret. I don't think it would terrible to buy back some sets. I'd strongly suggest checking out the new catalog and the next to see if there are some sets that would "replace" those you're missing.

As a few people have mentioned, there's a chance you might use them a couple times and they'd go on the backburner again. Enjoy what you have and new goodies - no sense focusing on the past.

I did just purge a ton of stuff at a craft sale/garage sale. I priced the stuff very low - there was probably well over $300 of retail there for $80. Seriously, though, it's stuff that had been untouched for years and/or stuff that's I've replaced with higher-end tools and products. I was a bit remorseful when I picked up the "leftovers" today (only 4 items left), but I am stoked to spend my $63.75 credit at the store! NEW goodies

A few years ago the kids were smaller and I hadn't had a chance to stamp for quite awhile. We needed money, so we had a big garage sale where I sold EVERYTHING. Every stamp and accessory I owned. I got back into it heavily about a year after that and have been thoroughly kicking myself ever since. I had 1000's of stamps...many I can't replace. :(

For this same reason I will not part with any of my stamps. I love them all even if I don't use them very often. I can't see myself parting with any of them.

I have sold hundreds of stamp sets in the past.. and then rebought some that I thought I really wanted again.. and then ended up reselling them all over again.. I say get some new sets and you'll forget all about the ones you sold. Pam

LOL!! So true! (knock on wood)

Thank you for posting this. I haven't purged yet, but this thread will come to mind whenever I get the urge to.

I agree. I sold off a bunch of sets a few years ago, then got "seller's remorse" and ended up buying a few of them back off of eBay. Well, I never really used them at all. Maybe one out of 16 or so.

Sometimes I look at all my "stuff" and just want to start giving it away. Well, thanks, I needed that! Maybe I'll just pass them down to my kids and they can decide what to keep or toss.

I'm just afraid the wood mounts will become extinct. I love the wood mounts, so I like to hoard them. I have sold a few, but it's like selling an old friend.

I've bought back dozens of SU sets that I sold because I couldn't sell cards with their images. Since they changed their angel policy I'm buying back lots of sets and spending too much money. I even have sets that I've sold and bought back twice! Now I will keep all my sets, at least for several years. I'm unmounting my very favorites or free sets (hostess, SAB, etc) that have a low resale value. I hope I have learned my lesson.

If I'm not sure I want to keep a set, I put it in a basket under my table. If I haven't reached for it in a year, I can safely get rid of it. :-) Unless I pick it up for the yearly review and love it again. LOL

I haven't sold any I regretted. I would rather move on to newer things!
