Default rolls of ribbon in organizer...

I don't know if anyone has a use for 1" wide ribbon but I like the box.

Queen (Abdicated) Pam -
Martha showed how to make this box on one of her shows sometime back. It was pretty easy. Basically it was a photo storage box like you can get at Michael's or Joann's. Punch holes in the side, set some eyelets and wha la -- cool ribbon storage box.

yes, but for some of us it's easier to punch in the credit card number than it is to punch the holes thru the box.

I have to agree with you there. I said it was pretty easy, however I should amend that statement. It looks pretty easy. My luck, I would have more holes in my hand than in the box.

Wow! That box looks great! But I want empty ones so I can put my SU ribbon in them.

Well, sure Pam... but they wouldn't cost as much if they came empty! I'd have to buy several to hold all my stampin' up ribbon so I can see the costs really adding up!

I feel this way so often.

I am inspired to try to make one. I just emptied a photo box I had stmping stuff in so maybe it was mean to be!

I have a feeling that Martha isn't going to be making too many ribbon boxes over the next 5 months. I can't believe that "the" home-maker diva is going to prison. Personally, I think that she is being made an example of....even if she was guilty, the prosecuters were all too happy to go after her. I just wonder that if it had been just an "average Jane" if they would have gone after her so intensely. :(

Well, back to the box. It is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

I think she p*ssed somebody off in the DA's office when they initially questioned her. She's used to getting her own way in every realm, telling people what to do, and here's some little nobody telling HER what do to. I do understand she is known to be mean to the little people in her life, and those are the ones she should be the kindest to. Maybe she has learned this by now?

Boxes: I wonder if large grommets would work better than SU's larger eyelets.

I had that same thought about using gromets instead of the larger eyelets...it looks like they used oval grommets in that one in the link!

I think she was unfortunate to get caught at a time when Enron and the other scandals brought average people to near bankruptcy. Most people caught for what she did only pay a fine, sometimes not even equal to what they stole.

As for the boxes, I just found some really large gromets I used to make a window cover. They would be great, I think, for some of my large ribbons. I would not use the SU eyelets (unless it were a gift) because they are so small. I wouldn't want wrinkles in my ribbon.

The notions wall at a fabric store would probably be a great place to look.

Okay.... I'm feeling a little stupid here, but.... what is a GROMET?
Is it just a supersized eyelet? How do you put them in?

Yes, the are super-sized eyelets** and you can get them with the grommet setter in the package.

**side note: it took me months to consistently call the little ones eyelets!

I figured someone needed to take Martha's place while she was in the big house so I decided to step up to the plate and try this out.

Got all the supplies at AC Moore, a local craft store in Latham, NY. Bought package of gold grommets, they come in sets of 8, size 3/8 (9mm)so I bought a couple of packages at 2.89 each. They are not found by scrapbooking supplies but over where they sell rivets, buttons, etc (the woman at the store knew exactly what a grommet was so you could probably get someone to show you exactly where they are) I put 5 on each side but could have squeezed in more as the box could hold tons more ribbon, I will take a pix of the inside and attach. Here's where I ran into trouble though, I figured I'd just use a circle punch to cut the holes and I bought a grommet plier to squeeze them but as I had to put the holes down 2.25 inched, neither would reach so I had to punch by hand with a hammer and hammer the grommets with a rounded end hammer so they ended up somewhat irregular to say the least...The box was predecorated but looks so 'scrappy" I had to get that one. I put the wholes at 1.5", 3.5", 5,5", 7.5", 9.5" from left side and 2.25" down from top. Anything other details needed, let me know!

One other thing, I am not exactly thrilled with the way the ribbon lays at the bottom, I am afraid it will get all tangled, mushed, have toyed with the idea of somehow running a dowel through the middle of the rolls and attaching dowel to the sides, haven't figured out how yet but I am working on it and as soon as it is done, you'll be the first to know!

I can't believe I forgot the best part!!!!

Total cost-INCLUDING the ribbon-$7.50!!!

Huge sale-1.50 for the box, around 3.00 for the grommets and 2.00 for 10 rolls of ribbon at .20 each (sorry, not SU...but too good of a deal to pass up...)

thanks for sharing Melissa! Will the rolls of ribbon stand up without a dowel? If so, that might keep them from getting tangles.

You are wonderful to jump on in, make this, AND share all the info! Thank you! I've had Martha's info for months, trying to decide if I was actually going to make it or not. I love yours, though.

The other thing I'm considering, since flat space is at a premium in my stamp room and I need to vertical, is to just get some Paper Towel Holders and attach them to the wall. . . but the box is soooo pretty ;)

What about putting two more grommets in the sides of the box, threading a thin dowel from the outside of the box through the grommet, through the rolls of ribbon then out the other grommet. You could wrap elastic bands around each outside end of the dowel to keep it from sliding out of the box.

Or if your dowel is just the right size, you could get those little tiny rubber end caps that go on the end of wire mesh closet shelving and use them instead of the elastic bands to hold the dowels in. They have them at Home Depot & Lowe's with the closet organization stuff.

Default ribbon storage

Hi all.... I had posted this on another thread, but thought I'd add it here. These are tension curtain rods and will work anywhere with two paralel sides...

what about using a shoe box? Might be easier to punch the holes thru and a heck of a lot cheaper...assuming you dont go out to buy shoes just for the box!!! (Its been a long day!!!)

Another vertical option is to take two peg rails turn them so the pegs go vertical instead of horizontal. Then you can simply rest the dowels on the pegs.

HTH!

I'm thinking that the one I saw Martha make (now I'm starting to wonder, did I see Martha make it or Carol?, hum, I think it was Martha). had holes in the end with a dowel run thru to hold the ribbon in place.
